Marian University (MU-COM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm curious- did you get the feel that Indy is pretty similiar to Mpls only a bit smaller? I ran into someone at the "big" mall down there who was from the 612 and she gave me a bit of a heads up about living in Indy, she even told me that the Marian undergrad has a reputation a lot like St. Olaf 😀 😍

Pretty much! Marian seems like nice and quaint community! I am used to being in downtown because I went to the U, but I don't think it will be too big of an adjustment since downtown is only a few minutes away from campus.

I am so sad we have to wait 2 weeks to get a decision as well....I felt the MMIs went well but now I think I am starting to second-guess everything haha....hopefully we'll be getting a call! :xf:

Hey all,

I'm super excited about my interview coming up at Marian, but I have few letters that I'd like to get to the admissions committee before a decision on made on my file. Anyone know what's the best method for sending letters of update? Through the mail or electronically?

Thanks!

Electronically. Scan them into your computer and email them to Kelly or Bryan.

I've heard that we may need to wait until the 14th to hear back....they have a lot of apps to look through!

Does anyone know how we are supposed to update the school? Should we just send an e-mail?

Email Mr. Bryan Moody...he's very helpful with all that stuff! 🙂

So basically dont freak out I don't hear by the 10th?

That is my guess! All I know is that an email=bad news. Anything else is either okay (waitlist) or awesome (acceptance). I will post on here as soon as I hear anything....good luck to you!🙂

It seems like lately they have been emailing waitlists too, while at first they called people on the waitlist. It's probably safe to assume that if you get a phone call you're golden 🙂 👍

I will be interviewing soon and was wondering if anyone knows if there will be a place to store luggage during the interview as my flight will be right after.

First of all, I would like to thank everyone for all of the valuable information posted on this thread.

I do have 2 questions though:
1. For the MMI, was it expected of you to talk for close to the full time or was it more of a back and forth type interview? What is the recommended length of time for your first statement?
2. I see there is a lot of valuable information under "MU-COM advantages in the portal" I am having toruble finding this; can someone direct me?

Thanks a lot!

The MMI is more-or-less "conversational" (or at least mine was - others can feel free to comment on their experiences). I probably talked for a few minutes (half of the designated 8 minutes at most) when I answered the original MMI situation and then there would be follow-up questions, which could change the situation completely or add to it - this is what made it more of a back-and-forth type of conversation. Just try to answer as honest as possible, really getting your thoughts out, but don't blabber on for no reason just to waste time 😉

Are MU-COM advantages available to people that are not accepted already? I was under the impression those were the only people that can see them, that may be why you cannot see them. It goes into detail about the curriculum (has the week-by-week schedule for the entire first year so far) and discusses rotations, the faculty, things to do in Indianapolis, and information about Marian University in general. Definitely very valuable and made me fall in love with Marian even more! 😀

Oh thank you, I didn't realize you had to be accepted. Maybe, I will be there in a few weeks. And thanks for your feedback on MMI!

The MU-COM Advantage Series is available only to admitted and deposited students.

Thanks,

No problem! Feel free to PM me if you have any additional questions 🙂 Good luck on the upcoming interview and don't stress, it's actually fun! 👍

Just emailed MU to cancel my 1/19 interview, if someone wants to snatch it up. Got accepted at DMU, and will most likely be going there. MU looks like a great school though! Good luck everyone:luck:

+1. This just about sums my experience as well.

Hello everyone,

Just wondering...has anyone who interviewed on Dec. 21 heard back from them yet? I know things have been crazy with the holidays, but I was under the impression that we would know by now. Any word for anyone that interviewed the same day as me? I just want to know!!

Congrats to all those accepted! Hoping to be joining you all soon!!

Yeah, I was expecting the December 22nd interviewers to hear back today too. Seems like it could either be bad news or just a delayed response. They mentioned people should hear back by Jan 3rd.

You do not have to talk for the whole time! Some of my interviewers were not quite conversational, so don't let that scare you. If you are confident in your answer, don't ramble on! Just stop and say that you believe you're finished answering the question and do they have any follow up questions. One of my interviewers told me he had nothing else and I could leave the room early (he also told me great job on the way out... so you don't need to use the full time!). One of my interviewers asked if I had anything else to add to my answer and when I said no he started asking me about my undergrad, hobbies, etc. JUST BE YOURSELF! 😎 Some interviewers will be more chit-chatty with you and others will be more business. Regardless, answer the question to the best of your ability and you'll do just fine. Good Luck!! 👍 😀

Hey Guys,

I just wanted to go over the interview format, please tell me if I have this correct:

A.) Six 10-minute stations, consecutive, no breaks in between each station
B.) Rest Station
C.) Two separate face-to-face interviews, consecutive

The e-mail is a little difficult to understand, I just wanted to confirm.

Thanks for your help!

not exactly.
each station goes like this:
2 minutes to read the situation
bell rings and you enter the room
8 minutes to repond - you will not talk for this whole time, there is some back and forth between you and the interviewers

-there are six of these
-7th station is a 10 minute rest station
-8th station is ONE face-to-face interview which is 20 minutes long

overall I am sure you will find the whole experience fun and challenging, and relatively stress-free

Some person in my MMI was like

and I was like

I think you mean resident and not citizen, but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be an issue since MU-COM doesn't require you to practice in IN after you graduate.

Also it's random what station you start at. You may start with the 20 minute interview right away or start at station 5 or the rest station. So don't expect a certain order. Good luck! 👍

Does anyone know anything about the wait listed people? What date do they meet for that? I keep refreshing my email like crazy every Thursday lol

I don't know about the specific dates...but I am assuming the news you want to get will come via a phone call rather than an email. Hope you get some good news soon. 😉

does anyone who interviewed recently know how full the class is about now?🙂

The week I was pulled off the waitlist, no one interviewed the week before. Idk if that's always the way it's going to be, but a good guess! If no is writing on here about interviews a certain week, cross your fingers for good news the next one 😉 :xf:

Hi I have a few questions for those of you who have been accepted and are working on your "conditions"

1) Does anyone know if there is a certain form we are supposed to have filled out for the physical exam? If yes, do you know where it can be found?

2) Does anyone know where we send our immunization records and what all we need to send for that?

3) Does anyone know where we send our proof of insurance and what we need to send for it?

4) If our school will only mail transcripts, is it fine to send a hard copy?

5) How does the background check work? Is it sent from the company that performs it to Marian or are we supposed to send it ourselves?

6) Lastly, with the physical, immunizations, and proof of insurance, where do we email that stuff to?

Thanks for everyones' help!

For #1, 2, 3, and 6: Instructions will be provided in the portal soon.

For #4: Paper is fine. Please use the specific mailing address provided in the portal so that the transcript does NOT get mixed with our regular mail.

For #5: The background check is sent to PreCheck, a third-party company used by most COMs. You complete a questionnaire on their website and the results are sent to us.

Thanks,
MU-COM Admissions

The alternate list is looked at once a month. The next time will be January 17th. Of course, a phone call is good. Any other news (rejection from alternate list or new quartile ranking--either up or down) is communicated by email.

Thanks,
MU-COM Admissions

Yes. We reviewed some 12/28 and 12/29 interviewees last week. The rest will be reviewed on Thursday.

Thank you so much MUCOM! That's very helpful

With competition increasing for our inaugural class, I would like to invite anyone with an interview scheduled in February (or later) to move to an earlier interview time, since we occasionally have cancellations—and there is currently one for January 19th.

If interested, please send an email to Bryan Moody, Director of Enrollment Management, at [email protected].

In advance, thank you for your time.
