ii today! scheduled it for 10/26 later group. I'm super excited, after visiting the school last year I was really impressed and it's towards the top of my list even though it's brand new :soexcited::clap:

Anyone know how long it takes for LoRs to be updated here?

What time is the open house at? I'm surprised they haven't announced that this was happening to the students lol

The open house is from 10 AM - 2 PM, which is in the middle of your classes today.

Was at the open house today. Loved everything about the school. Everyone was super nice and loved the facility and what they had to offer. School is definitely on top of my list, needless to say its only 65 miles away from where I live at.

Any more open houses? :/

Will MU COM be going to any of the multi-com's or pre-soma events on the east coast?

Went to the open house today too! Such a great school and facility. I love the building, faculty and everything it has to offer! The only thing is the area around the school that I am wondering about. I drove around a little bit afterwards hoping to see apartments or something...do most students live farther away and commute to school or live directly on campus? Looks like there aren't any options for close/ walkable distance apartments.

II!! So excited for this one! Scheduled for 10/25 Blue. Anyone else schedule at the same time??

Hi Ria, I was there too. Was a cool experience. Loved the school. I am from Indiana but not from Indianapolis. I didn't see anything as close to be able to walk to the school, but there are plenty of places at 5, 10, 15, 20 minute drive. Of course, if that's what suits you. Really excited about the school and hope to be in the class next year.

People live all over the place. There are apartments by the school (I see some people bike to school), but as you already stated the areas aren't the BEST. Some people live in graduate housing on campus, some people live in suburbs around the city (e.g Zionsville, Carmel), Broad ripple is pretty popular, and some people live downtown. I wasn't a huge fan of being directly around the school because the area turned me off, but I live downtown about an 11 minute drive from campus and I absolutely love it.

Housing options are great once you get to know the area. There are a few options for on campus housing and 1 complex less than a mile away where many students live (White River). I live about 9 minutes from campus, near Eagle Creek Park (huge park with an awesome lake). Housing and commuting really isn't too much of an issue in my opinion. Plus our class of students will give you guys the info on all the good areas to live once you're ready to move here! (The housing market is pretty great here, too. My husband and I just bought a house because it was cheaper than renting!)
Good luck to everyone at their interviews! 🙂

Files acknowledged as complete via email between 8/10 and 8/16 will receive an interview decision no later than 9/6. Some screeners, though, work ahead.

What is the next timeline for interview invites for complete files?

What is the next timeline for interview invites for complete files?

We are currently working on files complete between August 17 and 23. Due to the increase in applications, we are currently taking about 4 weeks to review a file.

What point are you in the application process? (At this point, there's a big difference in being complete or just starting the primary). But it certainly doesn't hurt to apply here and hope for the best 🙂 Your gpa is good and as long as you have significant ECs, I'd say you have a chance. GL! :luck:

Hey, maybe you, Meows, or Kenobi could help out with this.

Apart from the mmi stations, what are the standard 20 minute interviews like? I know they are closed file so that eliminates some specific application questions. What else should we be expecting besides the typical Why DO? Why Marian? Any curveballs or is it pretty laid back? I noticed there wasn't a page for Marian on the Interview Feedback page so I asked here.

Thanks! 🙂

I'm not sure how everyone else's experience was, but I did NOT receive typical questions - the why DO and why Marian weren't part of it. I found that really refreshing because people go in expecting those questions (especially the why DO) and practice a rehearsed response. This was much more conversational - I remember talking about how I like to to to concerts with my dad (like THAT conversational lol). I think I got all of three questions and the conversation stemmed from there - like what do you like to do in your spare time and how do you study type questions. Honestly not even really worth preparing for as long as you can hold a conversation 🙂 good luck, hope that helps!

That was my exact same experience at an interview, too. Refreshing, I agree.

So, I agree with Meows for the most part. I have spoken with a few people who expressed having a tougher time in their 20 minute portion than I did. It turns out these folks are pretty socially awkward IMO, so it's no wonder they had a difficult time holding a normal conversation--somehow they still got accepted…there are some at every medical school-- go figure. :naughty:

Honestly, this part of the interview is really only as hard as you make it. You really don't have to worry about hypothetical "what would you do" type of questions here because that's what the other stations of the MMI are testing.

The old classic, "Tell me about yourself", is a good place to start in your preparation for this part of the interview. It is up to you how in-depth/personal you want to get when approaching this question. What makes you tick, why are you interested in practicing medicine as a physician and what features are you looking for in your medical education are all good things to think about. Be able to tell your story in a conversational manner. Tell them what you want them to know about you! Formulate some questions for the interviewers and be able to ask questions when appropriate…this interview is for you to gauge them as well-- because remember, you will be getting accepted to multiple schools-- but obviously this is the one you want to attend 😉! (On that note, have confidence--don't come off as arrogant, come off as comfortable)!

As Meows stated, the Why DO was never asked to me…Although I'm positive I covered that on my own as it strongly correlates with my personal background story…so that could have been why it wasn't directly asked. One of my interviewers was an MD as well and the interview seemed to be less about why DO and more about "why physician". I'd think about why you want to be a DO anyhow…doesn't hurt to be prepared for it if it is asked. Why you want to be a physician beyond "because I want to help people" and what you would do if you weren't accepted to medical school this cycle, or next cycle, or ever are other good things to think about before you come in to interview.

Also, even though this was a closed file, I vaguely remember still being asked about the MCAT and how I felt about it at this interview. Again, the interviewers don't have your file, so it is up to you to dictate how much information you want to disclose with a topic like that.

Hope that helped. Good luck!

My interview was pretty similar. I felt the the interviewer was really just trying to get to know me. He asked both about school and personal life. It was really conversational. I wouldn't be worried about it, just be yourself! Do come prepared to ask questions though! I'd say at least half of my interview time was spent with him asking me what I wanted to know about the school. Always need to have questions ready to ask. Good luck!!

Not just one, but all three of you responded. Thanks! 😉

So today I had my interview. So what can I say, MUCOM was a good school, it was very genuine in proving that it wants to produce excellent physicians.

Overall location wise it seems good. The city seems active, but it seems that large parts are abandoned. And the otherwise of the school is a kinda tacky suburb. Overall I think it's a solid start for any medical student's career.

But the MMIs were a bit harsh. I felt like I needed a bit more time to leave a perfect answer. But still I felt like I left a good impression.

I have another question for Kenobi, Meows, and the Elf!!

Are most of your classmates straight from college? Avg age? Did you have year(s) off? What did you do in the time off? I think I am going to have to have a gap year. You can PM if you want but I would appreciate any advice!

Our class is very eclectic - Kenobi and I are definitely not the same age 🙂 there are people who came straight out of college and others who are well into their 30s. Personally, I had a 3 year gap between undergrad and med school (got a graduate degree in between and took time off and worked). There are people who came out of different professions even, so they're little older.

I think they do a really good job here of creating diversity. One thing I got nervous about at other schools is that some are KNOWN to have more families/older married people and that was something that turned me off since I'm a mid-20s single lol. But it seems like everyone has their own niche in the class and their own sets of friends. It's nice!

Weirdly enough I don't remember getting an average age of the class with all the stats at orientation. Maybe MU-COM can give you that information. My guess would be probably 25 or 26, though I obviously have no idea lol.

Just wondering if MU-COM was a little behind processing the apps I was complete 8/19 and I thought my date was supposed to by complete Friday. No big deal just seeing if anyone else that was complete at a similar date had heard anything yet.
