Hi all, long-time lurker here on SDN. I've been recently accepted to Mt. Sinai, UC Davis, and BU and I'm very torn. I've tentatively crossed out BU because it has the most expensive cost of attendance among the three. I would love to hear your opinions on whether I should go with Sinai or Davis (esp. if there are others that have made this decision before!)

UC Davis
>I'm from CA and my family (and their approval, tbh) is there
>I have an established support system already
>Great primary care
>Seven student-run clinics that students swear by
>Cheaper option (~$11k per year cheaper COA)

Mt. Sinai
>Extremely fascinated w/ NYC living (although no first-hand experience of it, I live in Boston right now and I love being in a city!) - esp. attractive with that subsidized student housing!
>Great research opportunities
>More global health opportunities (interest)
>Prestige - although TBH I'm not sure how important this is
>I really like their humanities focus and mission
>You take tests on your own time on an honor system(!)
>Would open doors to an East Coast residency

This is my tentative list so far, with a lot more weight placed on the lifestyle differences (family vs. NYC adventure, lol) and cost (~$44k difference over the course of med school). Not too sure on what specialty I'd like to go into, although I hear that's not really a factor since any school can prepare you for most.

Please help and thank you in advance!

Don't let prestige be too much of a deciding factor. Go with what feels like the right fit. Both are solid schools and funnel students into great residencies.

Selfishly, I say choose Mt. Sinai so I have a higher chance of getting off the Davis waitlist 😉. Also, everyone I know who has gone to Mt. Sinai has absolutely loved it. But, the Davis grads I know are also pretty obsessed...

What a great choice to make! Congratulations.
