Rowan University (RowanSOM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm surprised none of you guys called today to post a final confirmation on whether the committee met today or not.

Dr. Leon said he confirmed that the committee was meeting today but someone else had the most recent post saying it was not today.

Seeing as it's 4:30pm, if no one posted that they got in, maybe it's not today.

For the record, I said the committee was not meeting today

any idea on when the committee is going to be meeting again??😕

not sure but you can just give them a call and find out and make sure they'll call us the same day as well.

They are meeting this Friday, September 27. They will NOT be making calls the same day so please do not call asking them to do so.

Do you know when they will be making the calls? Is there going to be a specific day? Or will it be over the following week.

Acceptance calls can come at anytime. This is directly from admissions. I will update as I receive more info to share.

I had a couple questions for those who already received interview invites &/or acceptances:

1.) When did you submit your secondary application?
2.) When did you get your interview invite?
3.) How would you describe the type of interview at Rowan SOM? Any specific suggestions?

Thanks!!

+1 I really want to know how long it took for people to get an ii after they received a complete email ?

okay I seriously have been dying all week. I want my acceptance letter😡🙁:xf:

They're meeting today! (Right now)
And they may or may not make calls, but if you don't get one, it doesn't mean you didn't get accepted or that they waitlisted you.

Got the call this afternoon! Accepted!!! What a relief...

congrats! would you mind sharing your stats? and when you interviewed?
I interviewed on 9/13, but didn't hear anything today... 🙁

Interviewed on 8/27.

Congrats to you guys! I am still waiting for something to come my way, we shall see.

good luck to the rest of y'all as well!!!

Does anyone know if any calls were made yesterday?

I interviewed 8/20

In years past they made all calls Friday (look at old thread). No call meant alternate list or rejection (rare, but possible). Alternate list ranking = GPA/MCAT/Interview Score. re-evaluated at end of cycle.

Interview early, more likely to get accepted. Truth at all schools.

I just want an interview already.......!!!!!!!!!!!

I called earlier today, and the lady said NOT all calls were made Friday. She said that a no call doesn't necessarily mean rejection/alternate.

No, they have not made all calls yet. They may not have even reviewed everyone's app who interviewed so far. No call doesn't mean you didn't get in. Nothing is being done like previous years so I'd advise you to not refer to old forums and to direct all questions/inquires to the admissions dept. I'll post from time to time what I'm aware of (I will indicate what info was given to me directly from the admissions office). Best advice is to get in the habit of checking with ALL schools about their review process before going off of second hand information.

That's good to know. I just called today too, to see about where my application stands/ if/when i will get an interview...
Apparently they overhauled the entire admissions process this year. So that actually makes sense. So I guess a no call doesn't mean a bad thing, but it could. Best way is to probably wait a little longer and try to get a def response.

I am assuming they are admitting the top notch interviewees first. These students will prob end up getting into a MD school too and then eventually open up spaces off the WL. #annoyingapplicationprocess.

Be mindful that posting what appears to be your view that DO schools are secondary to MD schools doesn't look the best in a DO forum. RowanSOM is not a "back-up" school. It is my hope that I'm just misreading what you've posted above. Just an FYI

I actually only applied to DO schools, because I really want to be an osteopathic physician. I feel that a lot of students do the same.

Any interviews invites recently?

Not yet... but I just got a very nice phone call from an admissions officer inquiring me about the status of my application as I just submitted my secondary last week.

I hope that is a good sign. 🙂

Inquiring about the application? Not sure what that means.

I submitted my secondary last week so I don't think they have received it yet. She just called me out of the blue today to ask why they didn't receive it. She gave me the heads up that they hadn't received my letters of recommendations either which they should have. So I got in touch with interfolio. I hope it will all be resolved soon. I am going to call the other schools that I applied to to make sure that they received my letters of recommendation. She said that this happened to another applicant as well. So be vigilant.

I thought it was really nice that they called. I hope it means that they are interested in me. 🙂

Although they have not made all the calls yet, will the calls usually be made on Fridays? I interviewed a week ago and was just wondering what is the normal timeline for a response to be made post interview?

I think they only make calls if you were reviewed that day and accepted that day.

There are apparently 4 possibilities this year: accepted, waitlisted, held or rejected.

If you didn't get a call I that friday, I think you'd fall into that last 3 categories, but remember that "held" doesn't mean wait listed! But I imagine that if you WERE accepted, they don't wait around to call for that.

And also, I should note that not everybody from the last interview block was evaluated, they are taking much longer to review each applicant.

I believe that they will let you know quite quickly regarding an acceptance. At least this is what I was lead to believe when I met with admissions. They told me that at most you will be waiting a month. This all depends on how your interview coincides with the admissions committee meeting.

So one student might interview the day after the meeting and wait an entire month and another might get news the day after their interview. If you look up a bit in the thread some of the medical students were kind enough to give us a heads up on when the committee was meeting.

Again as others have said too. Silence is not inherently a bad thing either right now. So I would not worry until you hear straight from admissions.

Good luck btw!

hello everyone!

I interviewed on 9/10...

so nervous :scared:

goodluck all!

Congratulations!! I am waiting to hear back from Rowan post submitting my secondary application, and wanted to know what the interview is like there- any tips? Thanks 🙂

Don't worry about the interview, it was so so chill. I interviewed in the morning, sat through a class and tour the school after lunch. One of the admissions person tried to reach me after the interview to tell me that it's lunch time, but my phone died, so she went all over the building to look for me! Although I was a bit embarrassed, but they definitely made me feel that they cared about me even as an applicant!🙂
The only question my interviewer asked me was so tell me about your story, what brings your from xxx to RowanSOM. So I talked about my experiences, and she made comments here and there. And then asked me if I had any questions for her. That was the end of it.
So nothing to really worry about! Just be yourself! good luck! 😀

Wow... do all applicants get to sit in a class during their interview? How many people do they interview a day? Is it a full day interview? I hope I get to interview. The admissions officer was so nice to call up and check up on my application the other day. It really made me feel like they were interested in me as a potential student. 🙂

You have the option to sit in on classes depending on what time your interview is and whether or not exams are taking place. If you really want to sit in, you can contact admissions about shadowing a student whenever. Not a full day interview.

Congrats! When was your interview?

My interview as in mid-august, and it went from 9-2ish. If there is a class going on, I believe you can definitely sit in. On the day I was interviewed, there were only two of us.😀

you can choose to sit in if you want.

still waiting to hear back!

also congrats!

I interviewed in the end of August. The interview day was very organized and as soon as I walked into the admissions office April greeted me and was very welcoming and friendly. She offered me to sit in on a lecture as I arrived a little bit early for the day. (It was pretty cool to sit in on the lecture- made me feel like a student there!). There was a small group of interviewees. We had a nice lunch and an informative tour with a med student. Relaxed until my assigned interview slot (just talked to the other applicants and some current students who came by). Again, everyone was so nice.

Interview time- i felt as if i got kind of nervous at first out of nowhere. I guess the reality hit me for a second, but I think I quickly regained my composure and recalled why I wanted to be there and why I was there. I was just myself and we talked about the usual stuff, conversational stuff and before I knew it it was over.

I am so anxious now, more-so than before the interview! Regardless, best advice before the interview is to be yourself. Hopefully after I get fully evaluated, I'll have some better advice for post interview haha.
