SUNY Upstate Waitlist Thread-- 2009

In defense of the folks at Upstate, I get the sense that they are overwhelmed and are dealing with an unprecedented year in the wake of the state budget cuts and a large pool, not to mention the constant barrage of applicants (like myself) who call often asking the same questions over and over again. That said though, it seems that this whole process needs a major overhaul, because of this perpetual waiting game. The folks we talk to on the phone are basically handcuffed with what they can offer us. The only things we can do is basically lend support to each other and wait. It's great that we have each other on this BB to help ease this anxiety. You guys and gals, are great.

I noticed that you post in the Buffalo thread. Where would you rather go if you had the choice between Upstate and Buff?

Definitely Upstate. But since we're not getting too much info from Upstate thus far, I need to have a Plan B just in case 🙂.

Buffalo's waitlist seems to be moving pretty well. Hopefully we will have similar results. Looks like they waitlist everybody there.

I understand their frustration dealing w/ all these issues. I apologize for my complaints, it's just that a few other schools that have WLed me have been bit more responsive to similar concerns . Anyway, let's just wait out & see what happens .

Sort of depressing that we're still in limbo, but it looks like things should start shaking up soon here. My fingers are crossed for me and everyone else, it would be great to meet everyone here as classmates🙂

It looks like the majority of their acceptances come either late may/early June from prior years. I would love it if all of us get in because you all seem like very cool people.

Yeah, it seems that this year's activity is just par for the course. We'll see, look at the bright side though, we're one day closer.

Yes it is so depressing and frustrating-- fede is not a fan of limbo!

The hard part at this point is not having any information at all. In fact, I think that even bad news at this point would make me feel better than no news at all, because at least then I could begin to move forward with backup plans. And yes it is curious that Upstate takes so much longer than other schools when it comes to the waitlist... I wonder why?😕 What could they possibly be doing all this time? At least if they told us what they are working on then we wouldn't have to worry/speculate so much!

But I agree- you guys rock and it would be awesome to be classmates in the fall.👍

Dude, I know that this sucks, but maybe you really should start moving ahead with those back-up plans so you have something to do while you wait? I bet you've got a great chance of getting in, but if you wait around forever, you might really handcuff yourself for next year should Upstate not work out this round. If you start planning to reapply now, the worst that happens is that you get in off the wait list in a week and get to tear up that latest personal statement draft your wrote, or back out of a job offer you get for next year, etc. Just this last week I got in off of my first wait list, and let me tell you I happily canceled my new MCAT date 🙂

I hope that the way Upstate is handling this process (very slowly and not giving out any information to ease our anxiety in the interim) is not indicative of how they run as an administration in general...

Back to the issue at hand: historically, Upstate starts notifying people at the end of May. Hopefully we'll hear something this week after they get back from the 3 day weekend, nice and rested.

I got some phone call. The Caller ID said unknown. I was actually taking a nap b/c I just had an exam today and didnt sleep much. I have one tomorrow too and this definitely took me out of the study mode. 🙂

I sent in a pair of update letters. I just let the admissions committee know that I was still doing some interesting stuff, and that I was still interested in Upstate.

Congrats on everyones acceptances and good luck to everyone still waiting! I will be attending Upstate this fall and i'm sure you guys that were just accepted are looking for housing. I found a 5 bedroom house near campus (about 10-15min walk). It would be 300 per person plus utilities with off street parking, dishwasher, and coin operated laundry in the basement. I believe I have three people committed including myself. I have pictures....if anyone is interested pm me!

Based on that, and my increasingly pressing need to figure out financing and housing at my current choice school, I'm losing hope here!
