University of North Texas (UNTHSC/TCOM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I wouldn't count on the portal page to be reflective of anything after the interview, JBD...Caroline seemed pretty sure that they'd be getting into the system and sending out OOS acceptances right at midnight tonight though.

LOL ah crap. There's no way I'm gonna be able to sleep tonight. I remember during the orientation that they were laughing about their finger hovering over the button waiting until midnight. I didn't think they were serious though, especially since it's Sunday.

Oh my nerves...

Thanks, hadn't seen it. Although it makes me wonder even more why they haven't offered me an invite.

I think this link is a much better source to figure out what they're looking for rather than just looking at their stats:

Just received my rejection letter. I am instate if that matters

Same here 🙁, it's okay though. To balance things out I received an interview invite from another school. Good luck to all others and remain patient!

i don't think anything will happen before monday, since the administrative offices are closed on weekends.

Does it have to change to "has been reviewed?" Do we find out by email?

I read through past threads and the "code" they thought they figured out was that "been reviewed" is a bad thing and if you stay "under review"it is good.

Also, from what I understand you will get a personal call with an acceptance from the same person that did the file review with you.

does anybody know if letters of intent actually help?

Hi manno,
are they already sending out rejection letters even though you interviewed there? I thought if you were instate, you didn't find out until Nov 15.
thanks

They definitely do, I've got multiple IS friends with rejections in hand from here already.

Ok thanks. Do you know if all texas med schools send rejection letters after you've been interviewed and before nov 15? or just tcom?

You should look at the posts from a girl named Noshie two years ago. She really liked TCOM, she was very persistent and she got in at the last minute before school started!

Let's not get too neurotic here.

Yea, i did receive a rejection letter

What is the consensus on an IS residence who strictly wants DO school and writing a letter of intent? MCAT is below avg but everything else should be pretty good. Thanks

Mine still says, "Your application has been received," and "This application is complete." Does anyone know if that means they have yet to look at it, or what? I haven't received an ii, so I'm just trying to see if anyone has a clue? Thanks!

Good luck to all the OOS people finding out today!

I'm right there with you. I have contacted Caroline a couple times to push the application, but no budge. Then again I applied in September, so I believe it is really reflective of the person reviewing your app.

I would have to agree with this. I submitted my secondary in mid-September and received a call for an II in about a week.

Hey everyone! I haven't introduced myself, but I've consistently stalked this thread for the last couple of months and I think it's finally come time for me to post something! I've been accepted to TCOM!! I found out via the portal after refreshing the page 17234672184762 times today! Good news from any of you other wonderful OOS-ers?? 😍

I sent my secondary in early-mid September, so who knows... Well, I hope good news comes out of it!

Congratulations!!!!

Still nothing here. And now that I know an OOS acceptance has gone out, my anxiety just went up 1000% 🙁

When did you interview?

When did you interview?

I interviewed August 23! Didn't you interview around then too?
And I'm so sorry to have added to your stress. 🙁 Don't worry...you sound like a wonderful, positive person. I am sure your acceptance is on its way! I've got my fingers crossed for you!! :xf:

Thank you for the encouragement! I interviewed on 8/24.

I'm getting a little freaked out. 🙁

I gotta say guys, after my recent interview, TCOM is incredible. What a great experience. I'm gonna be crossing my fingers all day every day until November 15th (and beyond).

Curious if someone knows. But for the people who have recieved rejections IS, did TCOM ever show up in the match list? Im curious if TCOM would show up in the match list only to still reject you.

I'm a first year TCOMer, feel free to PM me any questions you have!!
[p.s. this is a new account I started rather than my old one since my old posts are linked to info from me, don't think I'm a troll]

sry about the alteration of stats, didn't want to trace back to anyone who knows me. Didn't think you could see previous posts. But, previous stats are what is stated.

txDOstudent, apparently i cant pm you for some reason, if you could would you PM me.

Okay, I'm waiting for a post that says "Yay, just got accepted to TCOM! I don't even have an MCAT score. This is the Internet, you gotta believe me." 🙄

A girl I know texted me today and said she got rejected. It seems to me that they don't wait if there is bad news to deliver.

Congrats to those already accepted - And best of luck to us all! :luck:

If they're going to reject you, I'd rather it be now so you can move on than having to wait till February or later with hope.

Yes, TCOM showed up and till this day is still in my match list.

You gave me motivation to just call the school myself today. 🙄

For out of state applicants, the date that they START releasing acceptances is October 15th and it's on a rolling basis. I was also told that they have not offered any OOS acceptances yet. We will be notified by either email or regular mail of a decision.

Other misc info:
They are so nice on the phone! 😀

Currently taking a chill pill....

^^^whats up with this, then?

I was wondering the same thing.

Sorry everyone...I wasn't trying to step on anyone's toes by entering the thread mid-year and causing an uproar. Here's all of the information I have; I hope it's helpful.

Yesterday, as I mentioned, my portal changed to say:

Congratulations on your acceptance! Official notification will be sent you via U.S. Mail.
A couple hours ago, I got an official email from TCOM that said:
I wanted to let you know that you have been accepted into the University of North Texas Health Science Center-Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine for 2013 admission.
(It goes on to say that I can expect additional notification via US Mail within the next couple of days.)

As for my specific information:
MCAT: 28
GPA: 3.7
Interviewed: 8/23
I'm happy to PM anyone more info.

I truly am wishing the best of luck to everyone. I'm sorry to have caused a stir.

I was told on the phone today that they haven't even offered any OOS acceptances yet. Who knows, maybe she wasn't aware of yours?

Anyways, I am just happy I can relax a little because I thought that Oct. 15th was the date I was supposed to find out so I kinda freaked when I didn't hear anything yesterday.

BUT! All is well in the world for the time being. 😳

congrats Entrada90, must be a great day for you!!!

Here's some information I just received today, which actually goes against some of what people have posted.

According to the person I talked to on the phone, if your status says "your application has been reviewed" just means that they have looked at your status after the interview but no decisions have been made.

She also told me that no in state decisions would be available until november 15th, so i find it odd to see people who say they are IS and been rejected.

Just thought I'd pass on this info.

Good Luck to everyone

I can see how they have already sent out rejections... the Assistant Dean of Admissions gave me a tour of the campus a few months back and he told me that they make piles when reviewing. Some people's apps don't even get reviewed (other than MCAT, GPA, and PS of course) if they don't meet the certain standards they already have set. If they meet those initially or are intrigued by something, then they can get looked at.

I have an IS friend with a 32 and a 3.5+ who got rejected. Saw the rejection letter. He must have bombed his interviews then...but yes, they definitely have rejected IS people.

Man, that sort of things gets me nervous. I'm not really sure what constitutes a bombed interview. Don't think on your feet or what?

So he only applied to the TMDSAS schools, as such TCOM was his only DO choice...He seems to have the impression that his answer to "Why DO?" was less than satisfactory to the interviewer. Sounds like he got pretty grilled over it.

One of the faculty at TCOM said that he conducted and interview, and the kid was really arrogant and basically acted like TCOM was a safety school for him. Turns out he didn't get into any other school, and TCOM didn't want to have him either. I think they really want students that want to be DOs, not just who'll settle for being DOs.

Ah yeah, makes sense. Everyone I met on my interview day was extremely nice, well spoken and enthusiastic about their interviews. I guess it was just a good group. Nov 15 can't come quick enough!
