Meaning, why would somebody want to attend Brown, in Rhode Island? One aspect I noticed about their school is their small class size. Are there any other features?

Emma Watson attends brown UG.

😀

Well, the majority of Brown's medical students are in an 8-year BS/MD program, so if you go there having applied through the regular route from another college, you should know that most of the students will have known each other for four years already.

providence is a good looking city

my impression of that area was that it was dead. like literally. i went to brown for my cousin's wedding and we stayed in woonsocket and there was a cemetary like every 3 miles, and a liquor store on every block. the placemats at a restaurant we ate at advertised that they're great for hosting bereavements...

It's not even an island! False advertising.

Providence is quirky, offbeat, good ethnic food...

Brown Med is pretty much the same, minus the food.

Providence Place Mall...
Boston's not that far away...
Outlet shopping just as close...
I second the good food...

brown med is also full of the 8 year BS/MD program kids. that might make it hard to make new friends with them since they have been together for 4 years or so, bonding. i know a few there and they say that it is hard to mesh the entire small class together :-/

Brown is like a medical school. You will go if it's your only acceptance.👍

Resident of Rhode Island for 10 years now, pushing on 11.

I can see, going to a city school, why Rhode Island would seem kind of dead. But the real enjoyment is not in providence, its in the south. Narragansett/Newport is beautiful and famous for the coast line.

But, yes, most med students have been at Brown for a while. Also, second Providence Place Mall, its beautiful.

If I have the stats down the line, Brown is definitely one of my top choices, we'll just have to see 🙂.

you go to pitt, i'm assuming?? 🙂

i've lived in RI my whole life and I love it. Yes, it's small and Providence isn't huge, but it has its charms. Brown is in a great area of Providence, located right near Thayer Street, which is a great street with shops and restaurants. And on the plus side, RI is so small that you can get anywhere within 15 mins! (exaggeration, but it's not much more than that haha).

Newport is amazing. Lived there for 3 years. Can't wait to get back. 🙂

I interviewed at Brown and didn't like it at all. The school and hospital were fine, but Providence seemed boring as hell. Basically a glorified college town at best. Of course, this is coming from someone who loves cities as big as possible, (i.e. New York, Chicago) so take it for what it's worth.

Rhode Island is New England's arm pit.. and Woonsocket is RI's ass-hole. So you probably got an even worse impression of the state by staying there.

lived in rhode island for 4 years. it's pretty not pleasant save select neighborhoods. really poor, low literacy rate, elevated drug issue, high pregnancy. providence is ok, but it gets annoying after a while. boston is close but not close enough to make a spontaneous trip if you're busy with med school.
^^ +1

Providence is awful, period. Even the nice part of the city, the East Side, is not safe.. the rest of the city refers to the East Side as "the mall" because it's where they go to "shop" around in other peoples' cars, houses/apts and even pockets. You really can't walk around by yourself at night, even on the streets that run right through campus. There is an ever increasing gang problem that often causes incidents at the mall, which is nice looking, but overflowing with rude unsupervised children.
There is a good variety of restaurants but the majority of them are overpriced.
