Any acceptances?

I got in a couple of weeks back. Interviewed the second week in Sept and got the letter on Oct 17. Good luck to everyone!

the interview was very laid back. Our student tour guides were awesome, and all the staff was awesome as well. I really enjoyed my day there. The interview was non-stressful. I stress about everything, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. All the questions they asked were ones I expected. Why doctor? What experience? What service experience? yada yada yada...Good luck to everyone else who has an interview coming up.

When do they meet to vote on acceptances? Is it a once a month thing?

i found out about 2 weeks ago...just haven't gotten on here yet

Its been five weeks since my interview...and as far as I know they haven't even reviewed my file... Anyone hear anything yet?

How do you know that they haven't even reviewed your file yet?

I called them last week and they said it hasn't even been reviewed yet. However I emailed them this week (to avoid being so annoying) and they said that no final decision has been reached... So I'm guessing I have been reviewed, but with no decision...

Does anyone know whether ECU uses a block schedule vs. a traditional? I thought I had heard a rumor that they were changing to a block schedule. If it's true, I'd like to be able to mention it in my interview. :D

ooo i got somethin juicy for you. that was my biggest concern- ecu is notoriously super uber traditional in their curriculum, and i brought up my concern with my interviewer. they are working on implementing a more integrated first year program. For the first x of your first year, you will actually have "patients"- real patients and real applications- alongside an MD of course. so they are working their way outta the traditional realm, which is nice. you might see my concern when you get there- you spend sometimes from 8 to 5 in the exact same little room and only walk between the study lounge, classroom, and cafeteria (all <50 ft apart) all day. good luck though- i interviewed there tuesday and was surprised at how incredible the interviewers were- it was like i was talking to a great friend.

well.. I'm now 6 weeks post interview... haha... anybody else still waiting for an answer?

interviewed 10/1 and still no word :shifty:

You can interview in October and not find out until May. Do not feel bad if you haven't heard yet. It is rolling admissions- keep your chin up.

I also interviewed early October, and haven't heard back. I've heard rumors that they tend to give out most of their acceptances late (like May...) to weed out people who would potentially hold seats but then withdraw. Again, it's just a rumor....

Got my decision letter in the mail today... rejection... I still have a few more schools I'm waiting to hear from though... so we'll see.

If you get rejected- meet with Dr. Peden after the cycle is over and see how you can improve your application. Then re-apply: almost half of the class is re-applicants.

this seems to be an interesting organization, i am now afraid to check my mail whereas before i was excited to check it...all because of three letters...ECU

I'm from Charlotte... Are you?

This isn't scientific at all but I just get the feeling that it's much harder to get into ECU if you're from Charlotte. The city just has nothing to do with eastern NC and it doesn't sound sincere in interviews talking about rural primary care when you're from the biggest city in NC.

And yes, I'm from Charlotte.

I know 10-15 people in the M1 class and only 1 is from CLT. I'm sure there are more, but that's the only one I know. Also, I am from Wilmington, and they made note that it isn't rural, even though it is eastern NC, so that's something they definitely look at.

They really take students from all over, although preference is given to ENC. I think it depends more on what type of physician you want to become. Again, reapplicants are commonly accepted. Also they take a broad range of mcat scores, and to some extent GPAs. Don't be discouraged if you really want to go there.

I got rejected too and I'm also from Charlotte. Does this school have a habit of rejecting people according to where their parents live? How can they be so sure I don't want to practice rural medicine in eastern NC and go so far as to base their admission decision on the fact that I'm from a large city?

sounds like a publishable paper:)

Rejected also, from Raleigh/Cary area and at UNC, 3.42/30.

Wow, the adcom must have just recently met b/c they aren't holding back. Did anyone receive any rejections today or were they all received yesterday?

rejection letter as well, interviewed 10/1

3.4/32 from UNC, raised in greensboro, never expressed interest in primary care or practicing in NC

well duh  i wonder why you got rejected.

They don't really care if you specify you want to go into primary care. They care much more about increasing access, which may mean a specialist in an underserved area. I will say that from talking with them, that saying you are going to leave the state is a kiss of death.

You got it. It doesn't matter what you want to do, as long as your are increasing access to HC. If you want to be a neurosurgeon, fine. But you better be sure where you are from(or where you want to go) has little or no neurosurgeons. Primary care is huge bc Eastern NC lacks primary care physicians, thus it falls into their "underserved" category.

How long did it take for you to hear back from them post-interview about your acceptance?
