So you use the "Committee Only" option if you have a committee letter with a letter packet included?

Technically what I have is a bunch of individual letters, which will be sent from a pre health office at school. They said since it is one packet, use the committee only option. The fact that you have a committee letter attached to other letters, but IN ONE PACKET, would not change your designation to include individual letters. Go with committee only. 👍

Thanks Chocolate Bear. It's a bit counter-intuitive, but I guess they only want you to select "Individual Letters" if they'll be receiving separate letters rather than a packet.

Exactly. That's why I emailed. I think a lot of schools don't submit individual letters--they just sum them up into a committee letter. Thus the ambiguous wording.

GW seems to be very wacked up....the trend seems to be that people who arent even verified by AMCAS yet have received secondaries while those who were verified back on June 4th are still waiting....whatever, Im starting not to care anymore

Hey guys,

After calling GW and AMCAS 10 times today, I finally got an answer as to why those of us who submitted the AMCAS very early did not get a secondary invite yet. There appears to be a computer glitch between AMCAS and GW and some (not all) applications that were done early (was sent June 24) got sent to GW, but GW is not able to upload the biographical information for some reason and therefore not able to send the secondary invite email. This problem did not occur for people just starting their AMCAS and those who submitted the AMCAS later. They said it'll be fixed by next week.

Damn computer Glitches!!!!....

I finally got the secondary for GW (woot) but I have a coupe questions about it

a)On the form where we fill in our classes that satisfy their prereqs there are fields for bio and chem and such. So for the bio I have about 20 classes that start with a bio in my transcripts (both graduate and undergraduate) with varying grades. Of course I have the basic one-year bio series but I got B's in those. Can I put upper div or grad classes in that field in which I received better grades or would that seem shady?

b) Most of them only require 6 credit hrs but some have more fields to enter courses than I would need to get the 6 credit hrs fullfilled. Can I add a third class even if the first two are enough to fullfill the 6 credit hrs?

Thanks guys

Did anyone figure these out? I wouldn't mind putting down Anatomy (5hrs) down as an extra that I got an A versus the two intro bio classes I took with Bs.

Doesn't GW get to see your trascript(s)?
Or was that purely for AMCAS show down?:scared:

Email response I got after asking them about not having enough space:

Thank you for your message. Please just use all available spaces provided on
your secondary for required class information. We understand that some
schools' programs may not fit neatly. Remember we will have a copy of your
AMCAS application listing all your classes. As long as you have completed
the required hours, your application will be eligible for consideration.

If you have taken more and/or upper lever classes in the fields outlined,
please use the general courses to fulfill the pre-requisite requirements.
Again, we will receive your AMCAS application and be able to see all of your
coursework.

Thank you. That last bit was the answer i was looking for. I think I am going to put down the basic classes but use all the spaces they provide. I guess all they want to know is whether we make their pre-reqs and then they will look at our AMCAS transcripts. With 10,000 applicants they basically have us do their first screen of transcripts for fullfilled pre-reqs. Makes sense...thanks for the posts!

My question was regarding my inability to fit a course series in it. I wouldnt recommend putting more classes in the spaces than are necessary to fulfill their requirements.

Why don't you try condensing 2 classes into 1, if you can't fit. Example: [Chem1234, Intro to Chem I, 3, A; Chem5678, Intro to Chem II, 3, A] becomes [1234/5678; Intro to Chem I/II; 3, 3; A, A]

Question for those of you on a quarter system..since each of our classes are worth 1 credit..how the heck does that qualify for their hours even though we DO qualify?

So for say the general physics sequence, there's 3 classes that we take the whole year...but if we use the AAMC conversion where 1 credit = 0.7 hrs..we get 2.1? And i have no more b/c the labs are included with the classes? i'm confused...help!

Your classes are 1 unit each? I was on qtr system and most my undergrad science pre-reqs were 4-6 qtr units --> 2.7-4 semester units/class.

This is annoying, I was verified the second day so I am with the glitch.

Same here. I had quarters and all my classes were 5 credit hours (3.3 semester hrs). My labs were the ones with 2 credit hrs which is still enough to fullfill the requirements.

  • For one of my GENERAL chemistry credits, I am using AP credit which has already been accepted by my university. The AP Chemistry course credit is on my official transcript as well. In the GW secondary app, for course title I’ll put “General Chemistry course credit” however for the questions asking “Lecture and Lab combined”, “Grade received”, and “Year Taken” what should I put? On my transcript, besides grade, it says AP however I did receive an A in that AP class during highschool. Also, on my transcript, the AP chemistry course credit is listed as 1 course credit (which is 4 semester hours)- should I then put lecture and lab combined?

So what do you guys think of this letter of Rec situation:

Committee only because it is a packet of letters from the undergrad office...

However, since I am starting a Grad program this Fall they will want a letter from them later in the year. So should I still mark it committee only or should I do the committee plus individual?

I am leaning toward just the committee only one still...

Sounds like a committee only plus an update in a few months. However, they do say that review of your app will happen after 3 LORs show up, so this kinda hints at going with committee plus individual. I'd email--only took em a few hours to get back to me. 👍

Anybody else submit yet? I mailed it in yesterday and had Interfolio send them my recommendations. Should get there tomorrow as I'm only two hours away.

stupid question: I have a committee letter and 1 other LOR (from HUP)... the committee letter is coming from virtualevals and the HUP LOR is being sent through Interfolio... I can just [x] both virtualevals and interfolio even tho it says only to check one, right? Thanks.

Sounds like a unique situation that I'd email about. They seem VERY picky about the secondary, and I wouldn't mess with it. 👍

a) Seems shady to me but idk
b) Couldn't hurt to add more if you want
c) Don't know, I am not using a committee

a) doesnt' seem shady to me,

when entering class's grades and years, are you guys using the transcript grade/year or the AMCAS grade/year (in the cases where they are different)?

I have this same question... except mine is for an English Elective. For yours, I would put the semester hours and for year taken I would put the year. My real question is what we should put for the grade... I am thinking I will put "AP" even though I got an A, because the A i got isn't on my college transcript or my AMCAS anywhere.... I don't really know though, since I also have yet to get the secondary...

I was wondering about the LOR requirement...can we submit 1 from a professor who has taught you in science and 1 from a professor that you worked with but did not take his class or do both of the science letters have to be from professors who have taught you?

Seems like they would prefer for them to have taught you, but that isn't explicitly stated on the secondary. Could always email and ask tomorrow.

Good idea and it worked out--thanks!

BTW when we mail the 2ndary is it a good idea to staple it together so it doesnt come apart? Or is that just annoying?

Does anyone know for GW if you can subsititute 3 hrs of organic chem with 3 hrs of biochem?

Does anyone know for GW if you can subsititute 3 hrs of organic chem with 3 hrs of biochem?

From GW's Admissions site:

"Applicants must have completed 6 credits of English as well as 6 credits of lecture and 2 credits of lab in each of the following sciences at an accredited American or Canadian college or university prior to matriculation: Biology (botany or biochemistry courses do not fulfill this requirement), General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physics. Last year's entering class averaged an overall GPA of 3.56."

So Biochem doesn't satisfy the biology rqmt, but it doesn't say anything about Ochem. I'd email in the morning.

i just spoke with the admissions office, and they said they have had computer glitches and those who have not yet received secondaries will shortly.

😳 Yea, I'm making school-specific secondary application threads for all the schools when their secondaries become available. It's a place for me to post the prompt and the LOR requirements, and it's a useful place for people to discuss the secondary app. This way, I can link that info to the main index I've been managing on the secondary application thread. And, it's less messy than having different people start their own school-specific threads, because this way at least the thread titles are formatted the same way for each school 😀

HAHAHA. Awesome.

The formatting is KEY. I go to the Allopathic class threads page, and it irks me that the titles are so wildly different.

👍

Ughhh are you serious? I must have missed that. Biochem is aprt of my core bio series, now I have to sub in some random upper div bio class and it will look weird. Oh wells.

You didn't take Bio I and II?

Quarter system. First 2 classes were really basic basic overview of cell bio and ecology. Next 3 classes were genetics, biochem, molecular bio. I was putting the group of 3 classes in since they were all part of the core material, now I probably need to sub one of the first 2 in.

Yeah, as if being a cali student isnt a disadvantage enough, we have to be on a quarter system too woohoo. I dont think this part of the application is overly significant though, just a way to make their lives easier (I would kill myself if I had to figure out how 1000 different colleges fulfilled prereqs).

Finally got the secondary at 6:20 am my time. They seem to be fixing the glitch!
This is one EXPENSIVE secondary by the way...

How are you guys sending the apps out? Fed-ex? I wish we could just submit it online...stupid signatures...

So, I want to make sure I'm getting this right.

I am using Interfolio to send all of my letters b/c I'm not in school anymore and I also won't have a committee letter. But, because I'm using a letter collection service that sends out the letters as one packet, I should check "Advisory Committee Letter only"? It's confusing because they first say:

"If the recommendation is not a composite letter or if you utilize a letter collection service, you must submit a minimum of three letters (but not more than five), two from science faculty familiar with your academic work and one from someone acquainted with your personal traits."
---- I know this isn't directly related, but it still makes it sound like I should check "Submission of individual letters"

But then it goes on to say:

"If you cannot provide a composite letter or utilize a letter collection service, attach a letter (to your supplemental application) explaining why you cannot and indicate who will be sending individual, single letters on your behalf."
----- this makes it sound like I shouldn't check "Submission of individual letters," and maybe should check "Committee letter only" but that's just confusing because I don't have a committee letter.

Thanks!

My school doesn't have a committe letter service thingee either...
and I'm also using Interfolio...for my 5 LORs

You should check the second option: "Submission of 3 to 5 individual letters"
Also check: by Interfolio
