CONGRATS!! 🙂

It seems like some people on sdn have time to create theories and calculations so I was just wondering if anyone has been keeping a tally of acceptances and ALs so far?
 
We could start an official AL thread.

gw had an entering class of 177 last year. from what i have heard, med schools accept - straight out - twice that number. by this assumption, there should be around 350 straight acceptances this year.

they interview from sept-march, 3 days a week. comes out to be around 84 interview dates. there are probably lesser number of interview days - factoring in the holidays, but i'm trying to come up with a conservative estimate for number of acceptances from each interview. assuming there are 12 students in each interview, they interview around 1000 people each year. that would mean that there is around 30-35% chance of someone getting straight acceptance, if they interviewed. so, give or take, there would 3-4 acceptances from each interview date.

now this is quite late in the season. so saying there would be 2 acceptances, or at the MAX 3, from interview dates that were late in the season wouldn't be unreasonable.

what do you guys think?

Hey if you want an actual breakdown check out US News rankings of medical schools they have all this information. As for decreasing numbers of acceptances later in the season I think that is bull. GW has done this before just like every medical school and I don't think they would pass up the opportunity to accept great students from later dates by handing out to many early acceptances. That is what wait lists are for.

20 acceptances out of 64 interviews is pretty consistent with the stats presented before. 1/3. And from what i've noticed, even in later interviews, this seems to be true...

I spoke with the admissions office recently and they reiterated that they are hoping to have all final decisions on outstanding applications by the middle of April. Seeing that its April 13th, my guess is that decisions will come out in the next couple of days for those that remain--but that's just speculation.

Looks like they are staying pretty accurate to their 1/3 accept/wait that they have been talking about.

I feel as though they have been having recently, one day of acceptances, one day of waitlists... thoughts?
 
Give them a call and ask when you might here back- they said they would e-mail me the same day so who knows they may have your app finalized.

i have to say that i left my interview day much more impressed w/ GW than on paper. great school, great place. however, one thing that really does still bother me is that price tag. it wasn't a big issue until i really started looking into it, calculating, and comparing w/ other schools. it's quite up there..

posting this question in the regular forums would elicit a bunch of anti-GW responses, so i thought i'd ask this to those of us that are very interested in GW: what are your thoughts on the pricetag and GW as a school?

For me, cost is the number 1 factor for attending medical school because I don't want to be 300k+ in debt. Considering a large portion of physicians make less than 200k per year, I don't want to put myself in a financial crisis, ya know? I want to be able to provide for a potential family and have the means to enjoy my life on the side. If I get into a state school that will cost me 150-200k less (maybe even more of a difference considering the interest), I am probably going there.

That said, I would not let 300k hold me back to attend medical school this year. After all, GW is in a great location and has awesome facilities/opportunities.
 
I have heard GW has a priority alternate list and a regular list. Did anyone got put on the priority list?
 
Where did you hear that? The way the AL letter is written seems like they would all be the same.
 
My status as of just now (I have no idea how long it's been up there, since I stopped checking after my interview):

The Committee on Admissions is pleased to inform you that you have been selected as an alternate for the first year class of the program leading to the Doctor of Medicine degree entering in August 2009. A final decision has yet to be made regarding an acceptance.


How sweet of them to be "pleased". LOL. I did like them more in person than on paper, but the size of the bill plus the comments some students made about sitting in lecture for forever and bad scheduling makes me not so devastated. Good luck everyone still waiting and those who want to make it off the list! I'm waiting for one more school this week, and then I'll most likely withdraw from this list.

FYI: Interviewed 3/9. AL 4/16 (I guess...).
