Sounds like people got an e-mail. It does not sound like status pages were updated, though.

I didn't get an e-mail, so I'm crossing my fingers extremely tightly for an interview invite.:xf: I really hope they're not just doing their rejections in waves. :scared: That would be SUCH a letdown.

Ditto, in the same boat. luck to us!!!

When should one sent a post-interview letter of intent?

So I just got the infamous Correspondence concerning the status of your application has been sent to you via postal mail to your preferred mailing address on file with AMCAS (no accompanying email yet though).... I know most of you a said this meant wait list for you...Did anyone who got this status change get an acceptance?

I'm really scared...I wanted that acceptance soooo bad!!

DoctorAK, and if I'm correct you interviewed the last week of January? I interviewed first week of January and I still have the "thanks for interviewing" status. It is just soo random I guess.

Yup I def interviewed after you (01/29). First I had the Thanks for interviewing status, then I got an email requesting proof of permanent resident status I sent that right away...then it changed to the Correspondence concerning your status has been sent via postal mail...
I have no idea what order they go in....but that is a little wierd that you interviewed first and it seems that I got reviewed before you.😕

Just chiming in...

When your status page remains "thank you for interviewing, blah blah blah" for a long time, it usually means good news. I had mine like that before I got my acceptance, and even after that the status page remained unchanged. It won't stay you're admitted until days and/or a week after you receive your email acceptance letter. HOWEVER, if the status page changes to "a correspondence has been sent to your post" or something along that line, it's usually bad news, waitlist or rejection. I'm not sure how GW does it later in the application season, but this is the trend for people who have bene accepted, waitlisted, or rejected up until now. GL :]

hmmm... I had that "Thank you for interviewing" status for about a week after receiving my waitlist email. Granted, i did have to wait 14 weeks to hear that decision so my case may not be standard haha.

Actually sushichopstickz my status changed on friday to "correspondence concerning your status has been sent via postal mail..." and I got an acceptance today by email. I guess there is no set way of doing this so don't listen to what people on this site have to say. Good luck all, I got my spot!😀

When did you interview?

Hey congratulations on your acceptance Greenebuddy!

Hopefully the rest of us can join you (someday... oh please oh please... haha).

:luck:

Congratulations!! I'm glad I was proven wrong. Hearing new acceptances is always good news to me 🙂

Thank You for giving me hope Greenebuddy....I was starting to think I was def in the waitlist or reject boat...I guess I should just keep waiting and seeing. I think I might be in a similar boat to you though cause after I had an amazing interview they sent a request for proof of residency (even though the got it already) I dont know why they would want proof of my residency if the were gonna reject me...
Thanks for keeping the hope alive🙂 :xf:

Congrats Greenebuddy!! 😀

It appears that we interviewed on the same day (1/8). My status just changed to the "correspondence has been mailed" message late this afternoon. But I'm pretty convinced that this is the standard waitlist status change, at least for me, and your case was an amazing exception.

Sigh...so this is what it feels like to have your dreams crushed...

Pity party time!!

Hey, it ain't over until the fat lady sings... or when August rears its ugly head...

on second thought, bring on the pity party! I'll bring the cupcakes lmfao.

interviewed at GW on 2/12 and got an email from them yetserday... my heart almost jumped

but......... they were asking for 2 things
1) a letter of good standing from my graduate program
2) a letter from my school or me (sent via school) to describe my institutional action (underage drinking on campus 2nd year... yeah.. lol)

what does this mean????

To to chime in on the website subject...my site had the thank you for interviewing message a week prior to even going to GWUSOM for the interview.

As for the above post, it sounds good- they are def. considering your app pretty strongly, just make sure to write a solid letter. good luck to us all.

just got this email:

"March 11, 2009

Dear ami1983:

Thank you for your sincere interest in The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. At this time, the Committee on Admissions has closed the formal weekly interview season for the Fall 2009 entering class. The Committee on Admissions regrets to inform you that we are not able to offer you an interview at this time. However, the Committee would like to keep your application in active status.

There is a very slim possibility that the Committee on Admissions may decide to offer a few interviews in late spring. Your file has been placed in a pool of applicants from which the Committee would select those to be interviewed. Should you have any updates for your file please send this information to [email protected]. Should you have the good fortune to be accepted to the MD Program of your choice, please inform us (via email at [email protected]) so that we may withdraw your application from future consideration.

Although this does not end what we are sure is an unpleasant waiting period for you, your desire to become a physician, your understanding of the requirements, and your perseverance are commendable. Again, we do want to emphasize that the regular interview season has closed and the possibility that we will offer a few interviews during the next few months is slim. In the event that your status changes, we will contact you. Please understand it will be some time before you hear from us again and accept our sincere apologies for the unpleasant wait.

We greatly appreciate your patience and truly wish you success in achieving your career goal.

Sincerely,

Diane P. McQuail, M.A.
Assistant Dean of Admissions
Chair, Committee on Admission"

I was on pre-interview hold. no online status change.

Haha. Yeah, I got that too, trying to figure out if it is worth sending them an update or just letting it go at this point. Chances don't sound good.

me six....i bet the applicant pool they can choose from is at least 2,768 people large.

me six! Gonna withdraw though. Good luck guys if they decide to interview any more applicants.

me nine!

I think its normal, i got it last year. Its a pretty nice letter, i like "very slim possibility," "may decide to offer," "a few interviews," selected from a pool in which we've been placed. At least they're not getting our hopes up ...

I think I'm actually "me eight" here. (There were 2 "me too"s.) 🙄 The odds don't sound great. (Just makes me wonder under what circumstances they would actualyl dip into this reserve pool). Sad. 🙁 I would really LOVE to interview at GW. I guess I'll go ahead and send them something, even though I already poured my heart out in an update in January. 🙁

me nine? ten? also going to withdraw though. 🙂 good luck to anyone waiting! :luck:

Got the email as well.

They had rejected me in Dec during the last app cycle, so even this is an improvement for me.

Not holding my breath, but if they called me at 5pm and said "you can have an interview tomorrow if you want it," damn straight I'd be there.

Not counting how many "me toos" but I got it also, and so did my friend.

Absoultely ditto here. Think I should tell them in my "update" that I have a free flight from my credit card miles, and I can use it at the drop of a hat?? *Sigh.*

Just got it as well. I thought it was a pretty nice letter with the right amount of sincerity mixed with reality. I'm withdrawing. Thanks anyways GW! And good luck to everyone else :luck:

sixteen. i sent an update, figured it can't hurt.

So...instead of us all saying "I got it too!" Will anybody openly admit they didn't get it?

I've applied to GWU two other years and went straight to rejection without such an email, but I'm kind of wondering if this is email is new this year--introduced as some sort of buffer to account for unpredictability of response to their admissions offers due to their current probation status.

So...anybody not got this email today?

On that note, is there anybody willing to openly admit they were rejected post-interview? I feel like GW placed everybody who interviewed on the waitlist (excluding acceptances). So I'm thinking the waitlist will be very, very long.

Anybody know any different? Or does anybody know a ballpark estimate of how long the waitlist really is??

Any insight is greatly appreciated! 🙂

I think there was an earlier wave of pre-interview straight rejections that were sent earlier this week or last?

Well...I got the alternate list email today. 🙁 I interviewed on 12/12 and have had that "Correspondence concerning your application blah blah sent to your postal address blah blah" since last Thursday. Still haven't gotten that correspondence though. It was nice of them to finally send me an email...telling me I have to wait even longer...

This process is the suck. I really, really don't want to go through it again next year. I see the MCAT review books on my bookshelf and they make me want to die. Haha.

Woah... that is a lot of activity for one day. Slowlorisss, don't give up hope... it's definitely not over yet. Who knows what will happen come May/June/tomorrow.

This new email is strange, i haven't seen it in the previous years threads. I think it may be a good sign. Why would GW needlessly pull along applicants with false hope? They have absolutely no obligation considering the sheer volume of applications they receive.

Hmm. :luck::luck::luck:

PS- Jult24er, i totally remember you from last year's Temple thread and all the waitlist drama we had to endure! How are you? Has this cycle been treating you better? :xf:

Thanks, Bahadur. I'm a long-time lurker on this thread, and you've always seemed so positive about this whole process. A lot of you fellow alternates would make great classmates!! ...hinthintGW...

Good luck to everyone else on this ridiculous journey. Keep the hope alive!
