Did everyone get a letter or an email. I am just anxious my mailman doesnt come until couple more hours.

Hey PD. I got an email from Ms. Walk this morning. Don't worry, it is coming. Just keep the faith and keep believing! God is in the blessing business.

Have you already interviewed?

Nope, no interview yet. When they send you an interview invitation, do they do it via email, snail mail, or both? I really hope I get at least some sort of notification soon. I think I'll kirk if it ends up being a silent rejection. The committee notifies their applicants when they reject them, yes? Lets hope it doesn't come to a rejection at all for any of us though 😉

Sorry to keep asking so many questions you guys but I was stupid. I sent all my letters of interest among other materials to the address of Howard's medical school admission's office instead of the dental admission's office during their move. I typically sent the mail through Fedex or overnight delivery. Does it matter or will everything still be received and placed with my application regardless?

Everything will be received by the medical school. It all gets forwarded to them. Just keep the faith. The famous UVABranch got her interview in late march and an acceptance in april. Don't lose hope now. Just stay prayerful.

Hey, thanks for the information! I hope you don't mind but I was so happy to hear that you and beerog got an acceptance letter from Howard that I made a congratulatory post about you two in my livejournal and facebook. I kept your names anonymous of course 🙂

I hope I dont have to wait until next month to receive some good news otherwise I might end up with an ulcer before medical school starts.

I also didnt hear anything today, keeping fingers crossed for next month. Congrats to everyone who was accepted esp. Blackdr2b you deserve it man.

First-Congratulations to all that have been interviewed/accepted!

My question:
Is it too late to send a letter of interest to Howard? I haven't heard anything from Howard since I applied, except for the E-mails about moving their offices. I had given up hope until I read this thread. I figured if they were interested they would have contacted me by now. What do you all think? Thanks in advance.
P.S. I am an older, non-traditional student-any sense on how Howard sees older students?

I do not think its too late at all. You should be getting an interim email that will let you know when they will stop interviewing and that everybody is still in consideration until the end. If this is your dream, don't give up on it. Stick with it until they say it is over. I am older non-trad too and I was accepted. They don't discriminate, as long as you have a passion serve the under-served, then you will be fine. Just keep praying and believing! God bless!

BD2B,you don't know me at all, but I noticed your posts on the "Class of 2013" thread and I've been following your story. I haven't even applied to Howard, and I've been checking this thread often, just to find out if you got in!

I am SO HAPPY to hear that your dream has finally come true. I'm a REALLY old nontrad who's in the middle of the application struggle right now, so I know how it feels. I'm actually waiting and wishing and hoping to hear from MY dream school right now--my only chance to stay in NYC with my husband and kids. (Otherwise, I'll have to be separated from them for med school, because my only acceptance is far away.) So if you have room in your prayers for someone like me, I could really use it.

Regardless, I congratulate you and everyone else here who has made it. You have a lot to be proud of. Good luck in med school!

BlackDrB, congratulations! I've been secretly rooting for you and I was pleased to see you got into your top choice! Woohoo!! 😀

I always have room in my prayers! Thank you very much. The Lord knows the desires of your heart. Lean on Him, Trust in Him and believe that He is and He will deliver you a blessing no eyes have seen, no ears have hear, no mind could ever think of! I will definitely be praying for you. Let us know WHEN you get your acceptance! God bless!

Thanks Sushi! I appreciate all of the rooting! How is the process for you?

Good thanks Black2d! I should hear back from a school this Monday and I'm trying really hard to get off the waitlist at my #1 school. 👍

So BD2B how hungover are you today, after a night of partying with the family and friends.

First-Congratulations to all that have been interviewed/accepted!

I would say no it is not too late. Just my opinion, but I would be very to the point in the letter of interest. I am under the impression that they get hundreds if not thousands of letters, and one that is several pages probably won't get fully read. I am not straight out of undergrad so def. not the traditional student.

Also, follow your gut and don't loose hope. I found it very easy to get caught up in the application process and not be focused on constant improvement (not saying this is you).

In the event that people have to reapply, keep the update letters rolling and ask for a phone appointment to find out the things that you can improve upon for the next cycle.

I happened to be in D.C. last year for vacation and stopped by the medical school. It was serendipity b/c they were doing walk-in appointments on that Friday. I went online on campus and printed out all the information on myself that I could find (transcripts, mcat score, ect.) and went into the walk-in appointment and was like; this is my #1 school and tell me what I can do in the next 6-8 months to make this a reality. I followed those reccommendations to a T, and I totally think that it helped.

I know this is a long sappy response to a short question, but I am going into the business of helping people and I hope it helps.

So how do you think I should start a letter of interest, like should it be addressed to committee or Ms Walk.

I can't think of a more deserving person! Congrats B!!!

you said it best. I've actually never met BD, but he seems awesome.

Best of luck to all of you...and enjoy the time left b/c you guys start EXTRA early

BlackDrB, congratulations! I've been secretly rooting for you and I was pleased to see you got into your top choice! Woohoo!! 😀
BD2B, I too have been secretly stalking you and waiting for Howard to accept you. I sent them anonymous "advice" about accepting you soon -- or else 😆 I'm your biggest fan haha

I came into this thread with the specific purpose to see if BlackDr2Be had gotten accepted to Howard yet. 🙂

Congrats, dude! Welcome to the C/O 2013! 👍

BD2B, i have to admit that i've been rooting for you too, congratulations!!!!! we're all happy for you 🙂

Joy.

I just got the email for an interview invite!! This is my first one. I had honestly lost hope for this year. I think its :luck:Luck O' the Irish:luck:.

The dates given were April 8th and April 21st. Does anyone know if these are the last dates available? I will probably call the admissions office and ask if someone here doesn't already know.

I've been following this thread for a long time and would like to extend Congratulations to those who have already been accepted to Howard. I hope we end up as classmates!

congrats arabchick, Howard is pretty cool you will have fun. Its a really relaxed day and will probably be better now since they are back in their regular building.

Just got the interim email, instead of an invite to interview. 🙁
But... theres still hope.

By the way..
Congrats BlackDr2b and beerog. Like others I have been rooting for you guys.

Funny thing is I also got that email, but I interviewed back in december so its probably just a mass email.

I think it is for everyone that they have yet to make a decision of acceptance or an interview invite.

I was wondering how likely would it be to get that email and recieve an invitation to interview soon after.

Can anyone say if these last few interview slots are for acceptance seats or for waitlist spots. i know several schools do this, but haven't heard one way or the other for howard.

Last year I know that there was a couple of people who received the interim email and received an interview invite shortly after and then also got accepted. UVABranch was one of the studs that got in after the email. You still do have a chance, just keep praying!

These last few interviews are for seats in the class. Howard isn't the type of school that interviews people for the waitlist. Everyone who has an interview is still in the running. Even if you don't have an interview yet and you haven't been rejected, you are still in the running. God bless!

Congrats on the interview Arabchick! That is a huge blessing. Just be yourself and relax. The interview day is great. I loved it. Just make sure you have your secondary with you for the dreaded green sheet. You will be fine. Getting the interview is the hardest part. If you have any questions, let me know. God bless!

ive been rejected before but this one is going to sting for quite some time. over the last decade of my life i've devoted myself to the service of others doing everything from volunteering in oakland free clinic hospitals to doing Teach For America before applying. if there was anything more i could have done to display the compassion, dedication and passion, necessary for the field, i don't know it. i have acceptances elsewhere so in the end i'll be okay but i truly thought i was a perfect fit for the school and the community. congrats to those of you that are in; ive come to know some of you through this thread and am positive that you will all become great doctors.

you interviewed and were rejected? or is this pre-interview. im so sorry, i can understand how it feels. some schools just absolutely seem like a perfect fit, and it stings when they dont feel the same way. good luck though

Bd2b!!!! congrats man! havent been on here for a while, so ive missed a lot. congrats though!

I am truly sorry to hear this. It is a good thing that you have been accepted to medical school and will become a doctor. It sounds like you truly have the spirit of service, and it is my hope that your dedication and passion will be nurtured wherever you train.

I know that rejection hurts, but there are people out there who have paid the ultimate price to give us the opportunity to train. There will always be someone who deserved it more but for whatever reason did not get the opportunity.

It gives me pleasure to be able to call you my colleague.

Congrats!!! An interview is big at Howard. I kept in touch with my interview group and everyone I talked to had gotten in. I suggest reading over your secondary and personal statement. There was something there that they liked and you will be asked about it.

Hope to see you in the Fall.

I too got the interim email yesterday. In the email it was stated that 30 seats are still available. It is already mid March. I have been complete since September. When are they going to send out interview invites? They are not very helpful when you call or email about status.... I am frustrated.

I still have not heard anything! Need a lot of prayers guys!!! What is the lowest MCAT score Howard takes?

Thanks pakidoc917, BlackDr2b and beerog2003!

To those waiting to get interviews, there is still a chance! So much luck and chance are involved in getting into medical school that it becomes a frustrating process. Best of luck to you all 🙂

Just keep praying and believing. On their website it says to have at least a 22.

They are still sending out invites. Things might have slowed down just for a second due to match week and them moving back into the medical school building. They were doing lots of construction in the med school which forced them to have some offices in the dental school. At least they let you know that there is 30 seats left. That is a good amount. Just stay prayerful is the best thing I can say.

I don't know if they have a specific cut for scores or GPA. I've seen people on MDapplicants get accepted to Howard with an MCAT score of 21 and people get rejected with MCAT scores of 33+. It's complicated I know. I too await, obsessively checking my email and wondering what my status is. Best of luck to you.

Hey everybody!

Congratulations to those who got accepted to Howard!!! Hopefully I will be accepted along with you, because that is where I want to go.

But I have a question. So I interviewed in January and today I received an email saying that my file is out of committee and that I'll be getting a decision letter in two weeks. I am super nervous!! But i was wondering if I could call Ms. Walk and ask her to give me my decision over the phone or would that be too much??? What has everybody else done????? Thanx a bunch!!!

I think that you are good, I have not heard of anyone being waitlisted or rejected so far when a decision has been made. I called a few times, it is hard to get through. I did get through once though, and they told me to be patient. I don't think it would hurt to call...

I remember reading on here that a few people heard over the phone after they received the criminal background check e-mail. If you have that e-mail then you can probably call and find out.
