Do any of you guys knows if a semester of biochem could be subsitituted for a semester of orgo. Also, it says 2 semesters w/ labs, so does that mean each semester of the class has to be accompanied by a lab? So 2 labs for each as well?

ok so i'm doing 2 sciences, 1 non-science and 1 from my volunteer club.

so I put the 1 from my volunteer club under optional 1, just the name and title, but then when i click continue it says I have to enter in the course# and name etc...
So how do you guys enter in the optional letters?

The instructions stated that you didn't have to fill in any info for your optional letters unless you really wanted to know when they receive them.

I left it blank, but I'm sending 5 total.

For my undergrad university, this is what I did. My second semester was biochem, which didn't have lab. But then, that is how our university deals with these things - you might have to check yours.

did i read it correctly in that if you are using a pre-health committee, you only need to list the school it is coming from? (and can leave all the names of recommenders blank?)

so i also called this morning and they told me to just list the school. i don't know if that helps or not since it seems different people have been told different things

So I didn't think that I was behind the game, but I still have yet to receive one of my science LORS.

I have the other two I need, but it seems like there will not be a way to submit if I don't know the name of the last sci letter writer I am going to use (I asked a couple different profs and don't know which I will send).

What is the normal deadline to submit these secondaries for which they did not screen? I know some of them just want letters by 1 Jan or something, but if I listed the name of one of the letter writers and it changed, can you log back in and change that name?

Thanks

Does anyone know if a PI who is primarily psychophysics in psychology, but includes protein assays in the research count as an UG science LOR, even though it isn't biology?

Did you take some research course for credit??? If so, I would say yes, but if not I would call to verify.

It was an independent research project that I received credit for. the PI is under the psychology department, but the post-doc had biology background and therefore did some biology techniques, but not much directly biology related, except for saliva protein assays.

Um they just told em the opposite, that I eneded to list each individual writer in the packet. Lol?

Yeah I asked and got an email back this morning saying I need to list each letter separately even if I'm sending them through VirtualEvals via my school's Pre-Med office.

is it weird if i haven't received this secondary yet? it seems like everyone has....i was verified 6/24

Quote from NYMC's website:
  • If your college has a Premedical Advisory Committee, a Letter of Evaluation from the Committee is preferred and will fulfill all undergraduate requirements. A committee letter does not require the names of individual letter writers.

Quote from NYMC's website:

Yea, but letter packets arent really committee letters.

My career center also sends out a letter packet through Virtual Evals (NOT a committee letter). I called NYMC yesterday and they said to list each individual letter writer in a letter packet since it's not really a committee. Other schools I've asked said the opposite, though. It just depends on the school.

my premed committee sends a committee letter and my other 7 recommendations together through VE. i did not list the individual letters...

I have a committee packet too and didn't list all the individual letters. I hope that's ok...

I was talking about a letter packet, not a committee letter. The difference is that my career center collects LORs from the people I ask and sends the letters off as a packet to each school. The career center is not a committee and does not write an additional assessment of the applicants.

I think you're ok since you actually have a committee. But in my case, they told me to list each individual writer in the packet. Anyway, you can always call them if you're still unsure about your situation.

i think many are like us, suaveness... let's hope well be ok

I guess I won't worry about it too much then.

My committee letters won't be ready till the end of the month. Does it matter that there's a long time interval between finished secondary app and when I send out my letters?

did anyone else submit their secondary before their primary get verified?

can I send secondary+LORs before verification?

i think so? my AMCAS isn't verified and they sent me the secondary a few days ago. i submitted it yesterday. my AMCAS just switched to "Ready for review" since my stupid school finally sent my transcript.

I'm not a big fan of the standalone "secondary application" posts, I think the links in the main conference are sufficient. These posts crowd the forum and especially for schools like NYMC, which doesn't really have a secondary, are useless.

anyone verified a while back still not get this secondary? i was verified 6/24 and i am beginning to worry...

My primary hasn't been verified yet. Should i wait for it to be verified before i submit the primary?

I have a question about the reference letter requirements.
Please note that my school does not have a pre-medical committee.

I have other references who I believe will give the admissions committee better insight. However, these professors did not instruct me for credit as they belong to different institutions. These professors have much more familiarity with my abilities than the others who taught courses, since they are both PI's and I researched for them directly.

Is it acceptable to submit these references although they did not teach me for credit, given that they are more familiar with my abilities and are both science professors (but at different universities than my own?)

what do you guys think?

I would call the school. Those letters will certainly help you, but NYMC might specifically want letters from science professors who actually taught you.

I accidentally REsent my Lors 2 days after the last batch was received......No biggie, right??

What do your status pages say? Mine says they received my fee payment, but no mention of my secondary. Under the LoR section is says they need to process my secondary before they can tell me whether or not they received my LoRs, but I submitted it on 7/10. So they haven't processed it in 9 business days? Wth?

Same here. I'm wouldn't worry about it.

Do not worry. NYMC takes there time with things. This is not bad, just make sure you stay on top of things. Remember, they are still handling this year's application cycle.

my status now says that I am currently under review...and was complete on the 17th.

when asked for credit hours, is that in semester or quarter units?

Also, did anyone send in the payment stub to qualify for the fee waiver? If so, what else did you have to send in with it?

i just sent the printout from FAP...that first page

Thanks. Unfortunately I didn't get to apply for FAP and it looks like NYMC base their fee waiver decision on that.

Right now I am holding off payment because 1. I'm broke, 2. I don't have all my LORs ready. If I gather the 100$ and pay first, will that put my app in line to be viewed or will they not put it in line until my LORs come in?

Thanks in advance.

so i'm BME, but i don't have a letter from a BME prof that taught me in class. my research advisor wrote me a letter, and he is a BME prof at my school. he never had me in class though. do you guys think i can sneak by w/ that as a letter from my major?

My individual letters are being kept at the career center and will be sent in one envelope, I know most schools want you to select committee letter but after calling NYMC they said list them as individual. Do I trust them? Does it even make a different?

I asked a similar question before and I called them:
They said NO. The requirements are not flexible. If they notice that you were not taught by a prof for credit, they will void the letter"

Okay so my AMCAS is not verified, and I still haven't even taken the mcat yet. Nevertheless I recieved the e-mail with the secondary information today.

I guess they really love me and want me 😍

Oh and what "optional LORs" are good? I've already submitted professor LORs to my predmed committee. Do people bother sending optional LORs? Will it make a difference?

thanks.

Awesome secondary too. No worthless essays.

The requirements are not flexible.

I am a non-trad who graduated UG in 2002, majored in Math. There is no way I will be able to get a letter from someone in the department of my major at this point. I have letters from my post-bac pre-med instead. Anyone know if this is going to be a problem?

I was complete on the 18th with all of my letters in, but my status page still says

"In order to view your received evaluations your secondary application must first be processed by the Admissions Office."

When did your status change?

Wait how do you know you are complete if the status page says otherwise?

And when did you submit/send LoRs (and via what method)?

My status still says I can't view the LORs until they process my application. I was complete on the 15th.

Does the status page say you are complete? When did you submit?
In a sense I'm complete. It just says what I wrote above. I submitted on the 8th, but also had to mail in my FAP.
