i hear you. just 1 acceptance would allow me to breathe a whole lot easier...

i interviewed at downstate about a week before you. they told me and my fellow interviewees that we'd hear back a few weeks after oct. 15th. so i guess that means you and i should hear back by the first two weeks of november, at the earliest. but who knows what they meant by 'few weeks'...

downstate told me they have made a decision on my file last week. but i haven't heard as of today and i'm in NYC. i'm hoping that the reason of the delay is that they're preparing a large package. and large packages travel slower!

nice mcguyver when did u interview?lol

the acceptance letter is not a large package.. its a smallish manila envelope.... lol

Got the letter! I'm IN! 4 years later i'll be known as McGyver, MD.:laugh::laugh:

all those still waiting, hang in there!

Congratulations man! I interviewed there couple weeks after you did...i hope I'll hear back from them soon.

Interviewed today, feeling decently confident about my chances. It seems like most people received their decisions about 6 weeks after their interview, so I'm hoping for an early birthday present (before 12/9 😀). Best of luck to everyone still waiting!

Hey all,

Congrats to those who have been accepted already! I'm hoping those who have interview can shed some light on the interviewers. I was going through the interview feedback section and it seems that the school generally pairs you up with an interviewer who is in the field that you are interested in. Is my impression of such arrangements correct?

Thanks!!!

I put Neurology on my application and my interviewer was in Anesthesiology so I don't think there's any correlation there.

I put family med and got the director of family med, so I think this is generally true depending on availability/# of interviewers in a given specialty.

just roll with it homeboy. be ready for anything. I am pretty keen on urology, but i gota pediatric intensivist. there nice there nonetheless

i put trauma surgery and my trauma surgeon interviewer had to go into surgery before my interview

rescheduled 30 minutes later to a researcher/professor...

hahah thats awesome! downstate seems like an excellent place for surgery. i actually know someone who is doing their surgery residency at downstate and she gets to do and see so much! she really loves it

so my interview is coming up (11/6), was wondering if anyone has it on that day as well?

I put internal medicine, did kidney research, and interviewed with a nephrologist. I do think they try to match your interest.😎

Similar experience for me...I lived in Guatemala one summer, I got a interviewer who spent a few summers there. Gave us something to talk about...

well i guess they match some. i have interests in neurology (PS, research) and got a gastroenterologist! infact, i also got a GI guy at my UPenn interview lol

has anyone who was complete in early august get an interview recently or should i just assume not invite 🙁

you really never know what's going on at the admissons office. i know many people who got invited months after they're complete. one completed late july and got invite in december.

don't assume anything until you are officially rejected. lots of schools go back to previously completed applications and send out invites months into the process.

So I'm looking at the MSAR for Downstate... it shows that:

2157 IS applied
732 IS interviewed
145 IS matriculated.

Anyone know how many they accept? How heavily do they weigh the interview?

oh really, did downstate ask them for fall grades?

just got back from my interview. now begins the wait...

To those of you who were accepted, did you receive the health forms in your acceptance packet?

Has anyone been placed on "Hold for Spring Consideration"? I got this today and I'm not sure what to think of it. It says a decision has not been made. So I don't consider it a waitlist.

Any info on this?

Well, have you interviewed yet? If not it sounds like a pre-interview hold.

Yes, I interviewed in September. I'm not sure if this is Downstates way of saying "waitlisted"

I'm confused.

i'm in! so excited 🙂

Congrats to you and the others who have gotten in!

I'm curious what the post-interview wait is? I know they say 4-6 weeks, but I'm wondering if that is accurate?

I interviewed 9/22 and acceptance was mailed 10/29. exactly 4-6 weeks.

CONGRATS SUPER Girl. that is awesome!!!! i was rooting for u

geez i can not wait to hear word. I interviewed a week after you super girl and hopefully i will recieve good news. I just want the monkey off the back, so I can relax.

I really hope I get in too. I interviewed on 10/28 and had a fantastic experience. Since my interview, I've been involved with a few new activities. Is it too early to send an updating expressing desire to go to Downstate and the new activities I have been involved with? Thanks

If they are significant activities (a new job, research publication, award, etc.) then I would definitely tell you to send it in - it's never too early/late for that. That being said, little stuff like a new club you joined or something on that level, probably won't affect your application and I would leave that out...

On another note, to all those who have been accepted (and to those who will be) I'd like to strongly encourage you to shadow a student when that program begins in Jan/Feb. I shadowed as an applicant and had other applicants shadow me last year - it's a very informative day that can help you to get the real feel of the school and how the students interact with each other and the faculty.

If anyone wants to know more specifics about the program (or anything else about DS) feel free to PM me.

Congrats to the accepted students! 🙂

Did you find out about spring consideration via mail or e-mail?

aw, thanks sflo! seems like most folks are hearing back in a 4-6 week time frame so i'm willing to bet you'll hear soon. it's funny bc i was on the verge of going nuts waiting to hear back news, so the acceptance came at a good time!!

Congratulations Supergirl, you just signed up for 40 years of no sleep.:laugh::laugh:

I know!! lol, but i'm going to bask in this happy moment until i have to snap back to reality 🙄 Is downstate a top choice for you?

yeah i wanna kno bad i interviewed 10/8 so we will c.

interviewed 10/6, got the packet today! WOooooooooohooooooooooo:luck::luck:

I interviewed on 9/24 and haven't heard anything. and my status page hasn't changed- Is that a bad sign? I know people have been accepted that interviewed after me. Any thoughts? I really like Downstate 🙁
