Hi, I received it snail mail. I also found out that Downstate does not have an alternate list as of yet. Being placed on Hold means that in the spring they will reevaluate you and then create an alternate list.

I know it can be a long and hard process and that the waiting is one of the hardest parts of it, but really never think that no news = bad news. The only situation where that's the case is if you submitted an app early and havent heard back for an interview by march or april. Certainly if you interviewed and are awaiting a final decision, not hearing back is only a sign that they haven't gotten to your file yet in the adcom.

Downstate tends to take a bit longer than some other schools with reaching decisions and 8-10 weeks is not unheard of here. They tell interviewees that 6-8 weeks is around the norm - and it probably is - but recently they have also been saying they're a little backlogged.

came in a thin manila envelope, only like 4 pieces of paper inside and a pamplet on financial aid.
 
to those who have already been accepted to DS, have you all gotten a CBC email? I haven't yet.
 
does anyone know if downstate accepts update letters, i'm really interested in downstate but have been left in limbo since being complete early august ... suggestions?

If you have something that'll add significantly to your application-- publication, awards, new clinical experiences-- you should definitely send them in. Smaller things like joining a new club (non-medical related) you should leave out.

thanks and congrats for your acceptance. downstate is also one of my first choices, but i haven't been asked for spring grades or anything ... there doesn't seem to be much hope! side note ... i grew up overseas too! but that means i don't have residency for any state 🙁
 
this wait is absolutley daunting. I interviewed 10/8 and have been checking mail compulsively. If im lucky, I think I might hear from buffalo next week before I hear from downstate because they have an instant turnaround. Anyone else waiting anxiously lol?

Yeah, Downstate is probably my #2 choice, so I'm pretty anxious. I interviewed a few weeks after you did though (10/30) so I'm just hoping I get a decision before Christmas, lol.
 
I interviewed 9/24 and called last week. They told me the turnaround time is 8 weeks- even though I know lots of people are getting decisions much sooner- and that I should hear by the end of next week. Oh well.

I must say I don't get this. I was born in NYC and have lived there all my life, even went to postbacc there, but no love from Downstate so far.

I have an interview at Upstate, and another at a state school that only interviews 8% of OOS applicants, but I can't get the time of day from my own people?

1. I recently submitted an update letter regarding a new research position via e-mail. Does downstate send an e-mail acknowledging this update or not?

2. Also, I am on hold. Does anyone ever receive an invite after being on hold?

well it took 8 weeks but i got my acceptance today! yay!

Congrats! Under 6 weeks, I think that's a record for Downstate, lol. That gives me hope that I'll hear before my birthday (12/9) 😀
 
o man so jealous lol. I interviewed on 10/8 too lol but have not heard anything yet. O well lol i figured id be waiting longer for any news because that has been luck lately. congrats nonetheless tho and i wish u the best
 
dont worry i was having the worst luck until today...i was starting to think i was the waitlist champ :laugh: but just wait it out and good luck!!:luck::luck:

I sent an update and received an email like 5 days later acknowledging it.
 
I'm declining my acceptance so I hope this opens up a spot for someone on hold- Good luck all!

Thanks, I just liked Upstate a lot more- the facilities, students, organization, pretty much everything. I know I should be going to Downstate for the great clinical experience but I think Upstate is a much better fit for me. Plus my interview day was miserable (I was really sick, flew in and out on the same day), which might have contributed to negative feelings towards to school.

hey guys I know i received the username from DS before but with all the million other passwords I've had to use this last coupleof months I cant remember how to access DS status page. Is it generic like my first initial+last name and birthdate for passwprd? or were we assigned passwords? I dont want to call the office and ask incase that makes me sound like I'm not interested in DS I interviewd 11/5 and trying to be patient. Its actually my top choice!!! PLeasee help!!!

Both the username and password are your AMCAS ID

I interviewed 11/5 as well... but it will probable be awhile before we hear anything (maybe 3 weeks min based on previous posts)

Do they really call in March or April?

They want to see my fall grades, otherwise no news. Anyone else? Did anyone get an interview even if they asked for fall grades?

3 weeks is very optimistic. I got my acceptance package 8 weeks after I interviewed. It's not the quickest turnaround at Downstate.

I got the same letter about the fall grades...besides that haven't heard anything from them. I'm curious as to why they care to see them since I'm in a non-SMP master's program. Would those really be the tipping point one way or another??

I don't think it's a tipping point or anything, just something that they ask of everyone who applies. I got the same letter even though I'm not enrolled in any classes this semester and I interviewed on 10/30. I wouldn't sweat it too much guys.

Just wanted to second this... 3 weeks is extremely, extremely unlikely. I don't even think it's wise to start looking til 6 weeks post interview (and it could be an additional 2-4 weeks after that point before you actually get your letter)

oops i meant 8 weeks! Thanks for the correction guys. I haven't seen 1 school get back in under a month so 3 weeks would be a feat.

Buffalo takes less than 3 days almost all of the time.

Interviewed 10/30, accepted 12/5. That's 5 weeks and 1 day for those counting 🙂

That gives me hope! I interviewed 10/28, but I'm from California. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Did it come by USPS or some special mail carrier? Ahh... the wait is killing me.

It was first class USPS mail so no delivery guy to expect. Hope you hear good news soon!
