when they ask for "total hours" in the activities does that mean they want my whatever hours/week times the number of weeks I did my activity? If so A) what a stupid way to ask for level of commitment B) what a waste of my time to figure that out for things I did for longer than 2 years.

What's so confusing about "total hours?" Total hours = total hours. Just ballpark it. They're not going to whip out a calculator and throw out your app if you put 1000 hours when it was really 900.

It's not the way it's written that confuses me, it's the fact that they are asking for total hours. Yea that makes sense when you're talking about shadowing or volunteering, but 1000 hours of research? 1000 hours of soccer? 1000 hours of employment? None of those make any sense to me. Putting those in an hour per week format at least gives some information about what kind of load you were balancing in your week.

it asks to use our 9 digit AMCAS ID for our username when we make a payment...am i missing something here guys? i counted only 8 digits in my AMCAS ID.

Use the lead-in 0? I dont know?

try 0AMCASID

I just used the 8 digit AAMC ID, and my payment went through alright.

I put 0 in front of my AMCAS number and it went through fine too.

P.S.: I didn't read all the posts in this thread so apologies if i repeat someone. But, it is very frustrating trying to answer their very deep questions in less than 500 characters...

I'm not sure if this was answered, but does UC davis send out a confirmation email stating they received your verified AMCAS?

Yeah, they do. Here's the email:

Dear Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in the University of California, School of Medicine at Davis. This is to acknowledge receipt of your application to our medical school.

The Admissions Committee has started reviewing applications and you will be notified of your status (e.g. whether and how to submit a secondary application) by e-mail as soon as a decision has been reached. Those decisions will be made beginning in mid-August through January 2009. The Admissions Committee asks that you not send any new information, transcripts, letters of recommendation, updates, or materials unless requested by them. If you plan to take the fall MCAT (August/September 2008), no decision will be made on your application until we have received those scores.

Thanks for the post. I don't think I got that email.

how long after your AMCAS was verified did you receive the notification?

Verified July 1, got the email July 28

what if its past the 30 day deadline?

I submitted my secondary on 8/24. My letters were uploaded to VirtualEvals in early July. But my LOR's haven't been marked as received and I'm not marked as complete. Is anyone here in a similar situation who has tried to contact the Admin office? If so, what'd you find out?

If not, should I contact the Admin office? Are they friendly?

ohh maybe july 28th was the first date. I submitted mine July 26th, and got my email July 28th as well. They received my lor's today (uploaded to VE on june 29th), so I'm all complete!

Hmm, I used Interfolio and they still haven't received my LORs. Maybe I'll call if they aren't in by Thursday.

i just want to say, that this secondary is very sucko

i've done like... 40 now?... and this one is really craptacular

either that, or i'm kinda burned out and sick of this haha, but c'mon, 500 and 750 characters??

Help ! I don't understand where we put our experience descriptions. I see there's spaces for Experience Name, Total Hours, Supervisor Contact info... but there's none for description!! I tried to save the experience filling out everything, but I got an error saying that I must fill in a description. I think my application is having technical difficulties.. is anyone else experiencing this??

It's in this thread somewhere. You have to use an up-to-date browser or something.

THanks Bradstein. Now I feel totally foolish for sending them a pretty desperate email. T___T

They love the desperate ones, don't worry about it. You just provided them some entertainment for tomorrow. 🙂

haha yeah i really had trouble saying anything meaningful in the 500 characters. it was like 1 opening sentence, 1 middle, 1 closing.

whoops i posted the wrong date, my lors were uploaded JULY 31st, and they received them on 9/2. Calling would probably work, they were helpful the one time i called.

I'm pretty sure Davis didn't send them out until 8/26, this was confirmed by the pre-med advisor. So how did you get it early?

I got my Davis secondary on 8/21 (about 10pm, just checked it). I sent my letters on 8/25 via interfolio electronic delivery and they are not yet received.

For all who call, update us with what you find out. I'm going to wait for a few more days before I call.

Whoops, my bad. I got the secondary 8/21, still no letters. I'm going to call.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure Ed answered, and he said "we have thousands and thousands of applications." So the wait is normal.

Anyone know how long it takes for payment to show up on the website after you register?

They are pretty fast with the LORs, sent in mail 8/29 and received 9/4

It took my payment just 2 days to show up.

Is anyone complete? As the days tick down, when should we worry about our letters (as it seems they have received no ones....) and start calling? If they don't upload our latters in these 30 days, what happens?

im complete too, took a few days, not long at all.

anyone know when they start inviting?

They finally recieved my letters!

I sent them in VE 8/22 but just got the checkmark today.

As far as interviews, the website (http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/ome/admissions/process.html) says that they notify you within 6 weeks of being complete, but seeing as how they start sending acceptances out Oct 15, they have to send them out soon. From the looks of last years threads, they were pretty slow and few at the beginning but picked up later in the season

I e-mailed them concerned about the deadline and the fact that my LORs haven't been posted yet. This was their response.
Our office has received over 1000 letters and we are taking some time to post that information. Letters received on or before the given deadline will be recognized by the admission cmte. Thank you for your patience.
So, just hang tight, it shouldn't matter if your letters are posted after the deadline as long as you sent them in on time.

I just got an email from UC Davis thanking me for the submission of my secondary and that as soon as my payment and LORs are received that my file will be given to the Admissions Committee for the review. But, when I chcek my UCD protal it tells me that my secondary application file is completed. Should I contact them about this weird email or am I being neurotic....well, of course I am being neurotic, I'm premed, but more so than usual? Thanks for any advice

P.S.: I hate it when they send you an email that is about thanking you for submitting your info but the damned address it comes from is "ApplicantInterviews Admissions" as this email was. For a split second I thought I had gotten an interview to UC Davis...geez.

I got the same email and I'm complete as well. It's just a mass email sent out to everyone who submitted a secondary...no need to freak out!

I wasn't freaking out... 😎

P.S.: they sent out another email saying that the 1st one was just sent out to everyone, no matter what your status.

I'm trying to log in to see my status/application, but it keeps saying that my AMCAS ID is missing. I've checked it several time and my AMCAS ID and password are correct, so I don't understand why it's not working. I know that they were supposed to be entering LOR yesterday and today, so I wonder if that has something to do with it. Is this happening to anyone else?

I can log in fine, but for the last few days my LORs, which had previously been "received" went missing. The website said all LOR issues would be fixed by 9/25.

Today I log in to find my LOR's are back, but my supplemental application and fees are now "not received", even though they were before. I wonder how long it will take them to fix this.

saa, by your password you do mean your four digit birthday code, right?

The status page is different today. It used to simply say "expired" under the time left. Now it says I have -5 days left to complete the application. There is also a small .pdf icon next to the supplementary application date. This would lead me to believe that it links to a copy of my secondary ... but it just times out.

I wound up submitting my letters 2x just in case they didn't get the first set. I would hate to have to resubmit them a month from now and wait another month for them to be entered.

The latest message I saw last week said the issues would be resolved Thursday 10/2

They have revised their estimate. From the status page:

*** Dear Applicant, Please note that the Office of Admissions is going through a massive upgrade. Due to this change and high volume of applicants, we are delayed in our processing of the Letters of Recommendation. At present, we are processing letters of recommendation for applicants who received their secondary request in August and project to have them updated by 10/15/08. The next group will be September secondary requests. If your payment and letters were submitted within the 30 days given to complete the secondary materials, you have met the requirements and your application will proceed to the next step once the system has been updated. Please continue to check the applicant portal for updates and thank you for your patience. The Admissions Committee will begin reviewing completed applications starting mid-October and you will be notified beginning in early November whether you have been selected for an interview.

LORs received! 09/28/2008! Was sent out 09/10. 18 days total.

However, most other CA schools received it on 09/15/08. (3 business days).

here's to hoping... =D

anyone know when the first interview invites are expected to go out?

A long time:

since the status page began saying that LOR issues should be resolved by 10/15 (and first by 10/2), did anyone's LORs get marked as received?

Do you have to have an M.D./Ph.D. to work in a teaching hospital?
Has anyone received an interview yet?
What are the average scores to get into UC Davis SOM?
If I'm currently in a Biomedical Master's Program that finishes this year, will they wait to look at my scores for the whole year or will only the first semester matter?

Sorry there are soo many questions. If anyone could answer any of them I'd be grateful. Thanks guys.

Do you have to have an M.D./Ph.D. to work in a teaching hospital?

No
Has anyone received an interview yet?

No, they said that early November they'll start sending out interviews.

What are the average scores to get into UC Davis SOM?

Probably 31 or 32?

If I'm currently in a Biomedical Master's Program that finishes this year, will they wait to look at my scores for the whole year or will only the first semester matter?

They only look at what you send them.
