I say that we be very generous and call the 15th of November the end of "early November." At that point, we should all simultaneously get very worried.

Are there any other schools that haven't handed out interviews yet?
 
No. We shouldn't get very worried. They are very behind. They almost take pride in being the laggers. If they weren't my sweet UC Davis, I'd hate that. But since they are, I'll just say it adds character. 🙂

Rest assured, I spoke to a VERY reliable source recently. They are knowingly running on a later schedule. They will likely make their initial movement in a large wave. So when it happens, you'll know it because some on here will undoubtedly be positively effected by it 😛

I wonder if Davis is coordinating with the rest of the UCs. With maybe one exception, most people would choose the other UCs over Davis. Knowing this and knowing who already has acceptances at the other UCs could greatly maximize interview efficiency at Davis.

Each med school is its own entity, so they all find out at the same time which schools someone is holding acceptances at.

I think you're painting with awfully broad strokes. Maybe Davis isn't as highly ranked as UC Whatever, but maybe an interviewee gets a better vibe from the school for whatever reason.

But yeah, I agree with Maja, I don't think they have a central database and don't even bother with people who have "better" acceptances.

IF there's any kind of "meta-selection" beyond apps, I think it is in the actual process Davis has... that is, in interviewing late and such they are dealing with people who have a serious interest in Davis, not just people racking up acceptances or whatever.

And, admittedly, I think that sounds awfully conspiracy theoryish, you know, tin hat wearing type of deal.

Hopefully they're taking a long time b/c they're being extra thoughtful and considerate of everyones unique situation 😛 (*crosses fingers they'll cut me a break and gimme an interview*).

that would be amazing b/c then i would get an interview too ;]
 
I think that tomorrow or Monday we might see interview invitations going out. I was thinking maybe yesterday, but then I realized they wouldn't send them out with a holiday the next day and having 1000 worried students calling to confirm or change their dates or whatever.

Yeah, it was just a thought. Given that AAMC policies dictate med school cannot know about other acceptance before a certain date, I wouldn't think Davis would willingly not comply with that policy. Still, by interviewing late you can reduce the number of people who interview who aren't going to attend for whatever reason.

Any idea why they're moving on this schedule?


On the idea of UC collusion, Dean Wofsy at UCSF spoke about this. He said that they don't talk to each other at all, really, until July or so. If they are about to pull someone off the waitlist, they might call other schools and say "hey, if I pulled this guy who's at your school away from you, could you fill the spot?" But that's about all they do. I think he said they always have someone to fill and are just covering their bases.
 
Correction/Clarification:

Previously, I stated ..."they are knowingly running on a later schedule." I only meant to say that "they know" they are running on a later schedule, not that "they are purposely" running on a later schedule. That was poor word selection and I sincerely apologize for any confusion that may have caused.

I have no reason to believe they are running late by intentional design. They just tend to be more laid back and later with administrative processing in general. Each school has their strengths and weaknesses, this is (and has for some time been) one of Davis' weaknesses. On the other hand, they tend to be progressive and ahead-of-the-curve with curriculum design... It's all a matter of resource allocation. They just happen to place expedient processing of applications pretty low on the resource-allocation totem pole.

The precise reasons why they are running late will probably never be made clear to any of us. I could have asked, but seriously, that's an application-death wish. They are pretty much irrelevant anyway.

I could really use some California love so I hope they get their butts in gear. Ohio is too cold and New Orleans is below sea level. Neither characteristics are desirable living conditions!

I second Maja. A buddy at Davis called and they said that they'd be interviewing later in the year. Hmmm... IMO it's a disadvantage to them (UC Davis), since by them I'm sure other qualified applicants will have great acceptances from other UC's and schools.

All of California hates me. One pre-interview hold (which I'm guessing is a rejection) and then silence. Its beautiful and 90 degrees here but in 3 days I get to fly to Ohio where it will be 32 and snowing.
I need hope that I can stay in this great state!

I just got an Invite for Rural-prime too, SWEET!!!!!!!!!!! I was so tired from the 10 hours shift but know I feel i can dance all night... in tears of joy!

Yah seriously. I would some how make sure to bring that up during EVERY interview, haha. Or, at least, bring it up during the awkward waiting room chats.... to make the others feel inadequate.
 
Apparently I was offered an interview on Nov. 10th 😱. The status page says:

But I never got the email. Applied regular MD.

You guys should check your status page :luck:!
