Crap...I get the sense that she meant that UC Davis is interviewing the weaker applicants first (weaker of the people they plan to interview).

You ARE overthinking it.

Backwards = schedule your interview first, THEN get an email that you have been invited for the interview. I highly doubt there was a hidden meaning behind the whole "backwards" thing.

Davis admissions are not always stellar - mainly, it seems, because they do not have that many people in their office. This can definitely make the interview process frustrating. However, for those who are frustrated by it - med school itself is run much better than the admissions office.

ya i'm 100% sure that's not what she meant. it was about scheduling first then receiving an email. i'm really not sure the admissions staff knows exactly what's going on so don't over analyze things too much.

Haha, you must've misheard her. I'm sure she meant they're "doing things ass-backwards"... you missed a word there. 😛

Dude, they aren't interviewing the weaker applicants first. On the contrary, if anything, they are going to bring in as many of the big guns (gpa-mcat) as they can ASAP, since they've got a late jump on em.

UC Davis knows what's up. Don't worry. They are always late. They know that. We're just over analyzing because we have more time to concentrate on JUST them. hehe

Good luck!

Crap...I get the sense that she meant that UC Davis is interviewing the weaker applicants first (weaker of the people they plan to interview). Which means that getting an invite this early is not such a good thing. The more I think about it, the more it seems that this is the case for a couple reasons:

1. UC Davis is trying to minimize the number of applicants it has to take off the waitlist. By interviewing weaker applicants first, they'd be targeting those who are likely not to have other acceptances at "top" schools. Meanwhile, by interviewing "top" candidates later in the season, UC Davis would give those with already good acceptances leeway in withdrawing from UC Davis before the interview, thus reducing the need for a long waitlist.

2. Judging from the MDapplicants profiles of those who got invites, for many of us, it is our first UC invite (myself included)...which seems to be noteworthy in itself in making the school seem like it's targeting what it considers to be in the lower part of the interviewable range.

Am I just overthinking it? Oh, whatever. I'm just glad for an interview, so there's no point in depressing myself over an invite. Pretty crazy, huh?

so... i emailed davis last night, and i got this response in the morning.

"Access to schedule an interview was posted in error. No one has been invited to interview."

i guess it was another "glitch"

Right?

i'm definitely not kidding. i asked them: "so if we have interviews, where do we go/what time do we show up?" that is the response i got.

Oddly, one of my supervisors at Davis said they hadn't invited anyone yet...

At the same time, I'm fairly confident that those who have "the tab," will eventually be invited. But that is just conjecture/educated-guess.

umm that seriously sucks, hopefully you still get one! davis needs to get their act together quickly!

i hope this isn't indicative of the IT problems med students face at Davis...

I was just thinking if those interview dates are correct, it's not really fair to give someone like a week's notice that they can come (assuming they still use Dec 1 as an interview day). But then I thought, since virtually all students are from California, and you get to choose, it's not such a big deal. But still...

Does anyone have Davis's number? Whenever I call the one on their website, it rings forever...

Maybe they've just given up answering the phone until this invite situation is cleared up

umm okay sweet. the admissions office tells us one thing one day, and now they are telling us this. The office told me "the glitch was only one tuesday". I am really getting fustrated if they keep giving and taking away. 😡

Haha... indeed. Happened to me last cycle too.

I also withdrew and received a post-interview decision anyway 😕

That being said, I actually thought the school was great when I visited...

its official now...(lol i hope!)

[FONT=PrimaSans BT,Verdana,sans-serif]Congratulations! You have been selected for an interview at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine. Shortly, you will receive an e-mail message instructing you to go to the applicant portal to schedule your interview date. The School of Medicine's Office of Diversity has designated the following three dates to interview selected applicants for the M.D. program. Those dates are Tuesday, December 9; Wednesday, December 17 and Wednesday, January 7, 2009. If one these dates fits your availability you will not need to schedule it on-line. We are asking that you contact X directly with your preferred date. X may be reached by e-mail at <X> or by phone at X. Please do not reply to this e-mail if you have chosen one of those three dates.

On those days you will meet with representatives from various student organizations as well as faculty members prepared to answer your questions and to provide you with information about our campus, student resources and services. If you are unable to interview on any of those dates then you may choose from one of the other dates given. You may do this through the applicant portal as instructed. .

I am not an URM but I did apply as disadvantaged...so I guess they might want me to give an interview with someone from diversity.

I got the same invite to interview... but now you guys have me paranoid and I'm afraid maybe it was sent to me in error lol. that would totally suck.

I'm sure that is real invitation to interview congrats and don't sweat it. Mad jealous!😀

I didn't get any email or anything on my status page besides the "Interview" tab...I guess mine was a mistake. Aww 🙁

Doubt it. I'd put down $100 that you get an invite.

Does anyone have a general idea of how many PRIME applicants they interview? I know there are only 12 spots and it seems like quite a few people have gotten invites....

Awesome, congrats. I'm glad it didn't end in tears

lol you and me both. Its now time for me to switch over to interview mode
🙁->😳->🙂->😎
transformation complete.

I hope I can make the final transition to :hardy: soon.

did invites go out to everyone earlier this week or only to those applying PRIME or disadvantaged?

i didnt get an e-mail either but also have the tab =/

Hurray! The email came! I guess they sent out the non-URM/disadvantaged emails later. 😀

PS: Thanks majahops! Your words always cheer me up. I hope you hear good news soon too (and everyone else in this thread, of course)!

Way to go! Very excited for you. Thanks for the nice comment, too, by the way 🙂

Did anyone notice that the date for "interview email sent" on the status page was from a month ago?

Finally got the invite email too. The weird thing on my status page is that it says the invite email was sent out on 10/22/08, which isn't the case because I've just received it today. Perhaps the "glitch" that they were referring to was that we got access to the "Interview" tab prior to the emails going out.

Congrats to all of you getting II's. 👍

To the rest of us, especially those of us (like me) w/out much love this cycle... keep your chins up. Its only a matter of time IMHO.

Yeah I got this today as well, in addition to what I got yesterday telling me to pick one of the three days for the diversity interview/information. I guess they wanted to let me have a crack at the three days before the mass invites went out. Oh well, everyone goodluck :luck: and I hope to see some of you January 7th!!!!!!!!!!

does anyone know if they have student hosts for interviewees? Thanks and congrats to all with invites!

To add onto the previous poster's question, what time approximate will the interview day end?

Congratulations to everyone that got invited to interview! I was wondering, did all of you receive a secondary first? A friend got the same email as you did but never received a secondary app invitation and in the portal he's got an interview tab and he can schedule for an interv. Isn't that weird or can it happen?

Are you kidding!?!? That is the strangest thing

To add onto the previous poster's question, what time approximate will the interview day end?

A friend of mine that is a current MS1 told me that she believed there was a hosting program. However, UCD is just starting this whole interviewing process, so a list of possible hosts may not be completed yet. It may be best to just call their office and ask.

I called the office to ask about the interview day schedule, and the person I talked to reluctantly said to plan to be at UCD for "a full day". I tried to clarify by asking "so perhaps from 8 to 5", and she said "Yes". Once again, they may not be certain themselves at this point, but hopefully someone that gets a chance to interview early will help us all out!

On a side note, anyone signed up for or planning to be there on 12/1? Good luck all!

To answer a few questions:

1. As always Davis is behind in the admissions process. The best you can do is not give up on them. They only recently sent out their first batch of interviews for December. But they are known for interviewing well into spring. The admissions process at Davis can be a frustrating process. Luckily the school is much more organized when it comes to running the school day-to-day.

2. There are students that are willing to host people. Every year the school asks the students to provide their information if they want to host. They have not yet asked us to provide our information for this year. Take that as you will.

3. In recent years the interview day consisted of a faculty interview and a student interview (usually an MSII). The faculty interview is usually done in the morning, along with a tour of the Med Ed building. The earliest you will be done is 1pm, since the student interview is usually done during lunch between 12-1. Occasionally, somebody will have a late faculty interview or they will take you on a tour of the hospital after lunch. I would think most people would be done by 3pm.

** this information is just from my experience as a student at Davis and has not been confirmed with the admissions office!

Also got an invitation to interview-- hoping to get a confirmation e-mail for an interview on December 10th. Good luck, everybody! Can't wait! Fingers crossed for an acceptance...:xf:

Are you kidding!?!? That is the strangest thing

No I was being serious, but he was notified the message was sent in error...doesn't that suck? I know it was extremely unlikely but they should be more careful not to make such HUGE mistakes! Anyway, good luck interviewing!

is everyone waiting for a confirmation email about their interview date selection? i'm currently waiting to confirm a january date, so i was just wondering if everyone else is in the same boat. thanks

If you don't mind me asking, why are you interviewing so late? Are they already filled up for December?

i'm on the east coast right now and i have 3 big tests in december so the dates offered wouldn't work for me. i'm planning on interviewing the first day offered in january (the 5th) then flying back out afterwards. but anyways, from what i heard after talking with someone else today, all the dates in december have already been taken, as have many in january.

That is alarming...it didn't really seem like that many interviews went out. Cali doesn't love me! 🙁

So I know you weren't asking me, but I can't believe interviewing two weeks later is going to put anyone at that much of a competitive disadvantage. Plus, all those adcoms and interviewers are going to be feeling happy and rejuvenated after the holidays and after not having any interviews for two whole weeks. :poke:

Ya, I'm waiting for a confirmation on my Dec 10th interview still...

This happened to me.

On 11/21 I got an email saying:
"Congratulations! Based on review of your application, the Admissions Committee would like to invite you for an interview. Please use the applicant portal (http://hs3applicant.ucdsom.ucdavis.edu/login/login.cfm) to schedule your interview date. I got really excited and confused at the same time since I haven't even been offered a secondary yet.

Then today 11/24 I got another email saying:
"Dear Applicant,
Last Friday November 21st, there was an error in our admissions system that sent an email to you in error.
The email invited you to visit the portal and schedule an interview. In your case, you should not have
received this email. We do apologize for any confusion this may have created.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact the admissions office."

So now I'm back to waiting. Any other in-state applicants still waiting on a secondary?
