This happened to me.

On 11/21 I got an email saying:
"Congratulations! Based on review of your application, the Admissions Committee would like to invite you for an interview. Please use the applicant portal (http://hs3applicant.ucdsom.ucdavis.edu/login/login.cfm) to schedule your interview date. Please visit our school website for directions to our campus (http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/medschool/maps_directions/) and interview day’s schedule will be sent a week before the interivew date.
- Hide quoted text -

Please continue to visit the applicant portal to check the status of your application. Thank you for your interest in University of California Davis School of Medicine."

I got really excited and confused at the same time since I haven't even been offered a secondary yet.

Then today 11/24 I got another email saying:
"Dear Applicant,
Last Friday November 21st, there was an error in our admissions system that sent an email to you in error.
The email invited you to visit the portal and schedule an interview. In your case, you should not have
received this email. We do apologize for any confusion this may have created.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact the admissions office."

So now I'm back to waiting. Any other in-state applicants still waiting on a secondary?

Oh my goodness. I am sorry that happened to you. That is just plain mean. 🙁 I hope you hear true good news next time. I guess even if you get an invite from Davis you feel even more anxious for it to be real or not. :scared:

Well, I just go my secondary invitation. So now I feel a LOT better.

Congrats...they outta give you atleast a secondary for the mental trauma that caused! 😛

Hey everyone, I know that many of you were wondering about the starting and ending times of the interview day, so I thought that I would share what I know with all of you. I received my confirmation email for an interview on 12/1 today, and this is the schedule that was given to me:

8:30AM - Optional tour of Medical Education Building
9:00AM - Interview day officially begins
3:00PM - Suggested latest time that interview day will end

I hope that this is helpful. Best wishes to those still waiting to hear from UC Davis. I think that they are experiencing some difficulties. I was quite freaked out when I got an email saying that my interview day was canceled, only to be informed that the email was sent in error 15 minutes later.

hey everyone, i don't know if you've seen this yet but on the davis application status page, they added this message for those that have requested an interview date and are waiting for confirmation:

"Please note that once you have selected the interview date, the applicant portal is going to show the date as requested date but please go ahead and plan your travel arrangements. You will not receive the final confirmation of your interview date until approx a week before the interview day as the Admissions Office has to arrange all the other logistics for the day before confirming. The dates available have been carefully selected and we plan on holding those interviews on those specific dates"

I'm interviewing 12/10. Good luck to everyone. I'll be the one wearing a suit. Now if I could only control my stutter...

so... anybody else's application status still show a red X next to the letters of recommendation? submitted secondary and letters pretty well before my deadline of 9/20, and just wondering if anybody else who submitted around there still hasn't received a notice that their secondary is complete. thanks guys...

You should call. That's an awfully long time.

thanks fizzle. i've called twice, but they just keep telling me to check the website. there's apparently no way to check over the phone if they've received my LORs.

lame. anybody out there to commiserate? it'd make me feel a little better... 🙁

Well, it took over two months for my fee to be marked as paid, if that's any consolation.

you should just resend it. The same thing happened to me with UCI. I my letters were never marked as complete, I called and they told me to wait one week. I called again (1 week later) and she basically chewed me out, saying they were busy with their new M1s and that if the letters were sent (which my school had confirmed were sent) that they would be posted. 1 week later, I called again, this time (by divine intervention) she checked and told me there were no letters! I resent them and they were posted within five days. Bit annoying because had she checked a long time ago I would have been done, but oh well, that was months ago now. But yeah, just resend them 🙂

Do you guys have any recommendations on where to stay and how to get back to and from the airport (SMF) to UC Davis Med Center? UC Davis is very vague on listing any travel accommodations or instructions.

There's a marriot right across the street from the med school. You could definitely stay there. My suggestion is to try and find med students who go to school there to stay with, but we all have finals from now until about Dec 17th, so they decided not to put out a host list until we come back from winter break.

As for getting to the school from the airport, you could try a super shuttle, since a taxi will definitely be pricey.

Hey Bruinator. Thanks for the advice. I'm definitely going to use a super shuttle to get to campus. For my return flight, I'm planning on using a super shuttle as well. What's a convenient pickup location/address that I can give to them? I mean I could give them the address of the UC Davis Medical Center...but I figure the place is huge and they won't know where I'm waiting at.

By the way, did you go to UCLA? If so, go Bruins this weekend!

hey thanks, i'll try that. might as well, it only costs like $5 anyway. gives me something to do other than pull my hair out, at least. 🙂

Wow. UC Davis just flooded me with 8 (and counting) emails in the past five days confirming the interview.

I'm still confused about my interview date; I will need at least four more emails before I am certain 😛

well google maps is entirely useless in trying to find a place to stay near the school. the phone number for the Monterey Plaza Hotel goes to the UC-Davis anethstesiology department. The Holiday Inn number dials a private party. The actual Holiday Inn number is (916)446-0100 and it's on 16th and G, not where the google map shows it to be.

i'm just going to sleep in my car.

For a pickup location, assuming you stay at the marriot, you can just tell them the marriot's address. If that doesn't work, just tell them where the school is (4610 X street).

I forget when your interview is, but if it's january or later, i recommend asking the school to set you up with a host. It's a great way to learn about the school from students, and a lot of people live walking distance away.

did this happen to anyone? i scheduled my interview date, but now the interview date no longer shows...as in i can schedule another date... i've already booked my tickets, etc... i hope it's a glitch please

if no secondary by now, should i consider it a silent rejection? can any previous year applicants give some info about how late into the application season davis sends secondaries? thanks

Hey, there's a Marriott Hotel pretty much on the UC Davis medical school campus. Check it out.

I did. It's booked solid. I called and tried some online agents. Thanks though. That would have been ideal since I drive like a maniac when I'm nervous.

Thanks for the info. I'm interviewing this month so there's no student host as far as I'm aware. I've also booked a room at the Marriot per your suggestion.

By the way, did anybody get additional information regarding the interview schedule? I know someone posted the schedule earlier in this thread, but UC Davis was supposed to send out another email with the interview day schedule a week before our interviews right?

Just get to the admissions office in the education building (4610 X street) by 8:30 am, and they'll give you your schedule for the day there.

so I just called the Travelodge in Sacramento, and it's only about 10 mins away from the campus going for $55 + tax per night.

Did you end up just going to the interview and did they ever send you a confirmation email? The same thing just happened to me and I'm supposed to fly cross-country for the interview in a few hours :/

Best spot to stay is the Vagabond Inn. You can't beat the prices and they have free shuttles, breakfast and wireless internet.

I have a question for those of you who have interviewed already...about how many interview days has UCD already had/scheduled and how many interviewees were at each interview day? Thanks!

haha, it's not much consolation, no, but that does suck. and thanks. and i'm just posting on here to update that they finally received my letters, over 3 months after I sent them the first time (but less than a week after I resent them, so I don't know which one went through). anyway, if anyone else is in that situation, just resend them.

now i get to wait until they give/don't give me an interview, hurray. wish i applied in the first batch, i hate waiting around...

As far as I can tell, Davis started interviewing beginning of December-- they were behind with the interviews due to technical difficulties this year from going paperless. So it's still pretty early in the cycle!
When I interviewed there were maybe 10-15 people... we split up into two groups after the initial tour because half had their interviews before lunch while the other half met with the dean.
Hope this is helpful! Good luck!! :luck:

figured it out 🙂 but...

can someone post or PM the interview schedule?

also, for those who live there/interviewed already, did you book a hotel or stay with someone? I imagine hotels aren't so expensive.

lastly, how far is Davis SOM from San Fran?

thanks!!!

SF is about a 1.5 - 2 hour drive from Sacramento, depending on traffic, plus $4 for bridges each way.

sacramento aint that great of a place, but its really easy to get to the medical campus. i say medical campus, because it really is a "campus". youll like it.

Hey - what is a good way to get from Davis School of Med (Sac) to San Fran, anyone know if there is a bus, subway, train, shuttle that goes directly b/w, or it pretty easy?

And, anyone know of any good inexpensive hotels close to the school? Are there any walking distance?

you can take amtrak from davis to Richmond. Then transfer to BART to get to SF. Or Amtrak also goes all the way to SF, but you have to take a bus part of the way. Not sure how to get to Amtrak in Davis, but can't be that hard and from then on it's pretty easy.

Take the UCDSOM shuttle which will bring you to UCD. There's an amtrak stop on G street in Davis. Take the train to Oakland. You'll have a chance to take a bus from there.

Anyone know if they still have interview slots open? Just wondering if there is any hope left for some instate love.

Just got a secondary invitation on 1/7 and completed everything for the Secondary & Rural Prime on 1/8.

Will they send us anything verifying completion, or will the next contact be an Interview/Rejection email?

The secondary application website will be marked as complete when you're complete. I never received an email about it.

Wow. I just experienced the fastest turnaround ever.

I got the secondary on 1/7, finished everything on 1/8, and invited for interview on 1/12.

I am so excited for Davis! I hope I don't botch the interview though...

Has anyone sent an update/LOI to Davis? I sent one via email but haven't heard anything back from them.
Also, since they start interveiwing so late, how long do they send invites out for? The 85 degree weather we're having here in California makes me want to stay all the more!!! C'mon California love!

I'm wondering the same thing. Atleast you have USC man! When I called Davis a few weeks back they said that they don't take updates or LOI. 👎

Woops. Well they can throw it away then. I still have hope :xf:

🙁 Actually I'm freaking out and really don't want to leave California... or pay a zillion dollars for USC and live in LA for another 4 years.
