Woops. Well they can throw it away then. I still have hope :xf:
Actually, they converted the admissions process to all paperless this year, so they won't have to throw anything away. They give you 7 days to e-mail in an update after you interview, but that's the only time they accept updates from what I understand.

UCD is a great school and highly under-rated by the SDN world. They also have a reputation for being slow, so just hang in there. Your invite will come soon enough.

Good luck at USC.

I'm wondering the same thing. Atleast you have USC man! When I called Davis a few weeks back they said that they don't take updates or LOI. 👎

The admissions committee has a lot to do, so the less you bother them, probably the better. They asked me for an update letter about a month before I was accepted, so if they want more info they'll ask you.

Man, every time this thread is bumped up, I go 😱

sorry about that 🙂 I bet your invite is coming soon. I haven't received one either (yet -- hopefully)!

On another pre-reqs note, they require a full year of math. The school I went to offered two quarters for the calculus sequence, and I passed out of the first quarter and took the second. Davis says this will not do, and that I need to take a full three quarters -- so, another math course, and a statistics course. Anyone see a way around this?

i hope this isn't true 🙁 i am a quarter system student too, passed out of the first calc, and only took two quarters of calc and statistics... would be a real shame if that's the reason we don't have interview invites

any invites recently? I was complete in mid Oct, IS, haven't heard anything
(yeah, i know there's an interview invite thread)

I REALLY WANT ONE!

I know it would be lame, but I actually called the admissions office to check b/c a first-year student told me it might actually be one reason I was sans interview invite. She went to the same school I went to, and experienced the same issue.

Oh no I only have statistics and multivariable calc. Did the admissions person say we can send an update or something saying we will take a 3rd quarter of math?

Yea. I only have 2qtrs of math, and I got interviewed.

you're right that they only give you 7 days to email updates after interviewing. also, we were told during the interview day to not even bother sending in Letters of Intent because they won't take it into consideration. i hope that saves those who were considering it some time.

Has anyone heard back post-interview from Davis? I'm quickly approaching the 6th week of the 6-8 week wait and I'm getting quite anxious. :xf:

just called the admissions office...

Q: Would you happen to know when decisions will be made for those that interviewed in December?
A: The committees haven't even met yet.
Q: Do you know when they will meet?
A: Nope.

I interviewed early as well (first week of Dec) and they said the first decisions will come out mid-Feb. Happy Waiting!

Brainlover, which day did you interview?

I interviewed Dec. 10th... so anxious!! How about you?
MAAAN, mid FEBRUARY??!! I know the admissions staff said probably 8 weeks but I was hoping ever so desperately that the wait would end before then...
By the way, happy inauguration day everyone!

i hate uc davis, for some reason they rejected me for undergrad and didnt even give me a secondary for med school. Given that i am from sacramento and would love to have gone there for both just makes me sad.

Hi all...so I submitted my secondary a couple of weeks ago and received my interview invite less than 24 hours later, should I be concerned, I was reading earlier in this thread about how there were problems with their system...I have since received emails from the admissions interview email address at UC DAVIS

I guess I'm just looking for some peace of mind...Anyways, what do you think...should I be concerned that it was a mistake???

You can always call and confirm to be sure

I just received an e-mail to complete the UC Davis secondary. I completed my AMCAS in June so I thought they silently rejected me until now. Is it too late to even think about getting an interview? Should I even bother doing the secondary? This is my only shot at staying in state, but I don't think I'm competative enough this late in the game. Any advice would be appreciated.

Honestly, I think that you are still in good shape with regards to UCD. Their first interview day wasn't until 12/1 and we've had a winter break in between as well. Furthermore, there have been posted instances of people getting interview invites relatively quickly after submitting their secondary application, so this could happen to you too. I don't think that it would hurt to finish the secondary ASAP, and who knows, you may still be able to stay in CA after all! Best wishes to you!

If you want too stay in state go for it! Even if you would only slightly prefer it over other schools you've got into go for it. They filter a good deal of secondaries, and they interview late so they're interested in you!!!

Yea dude, it may be late in the game for other schools but for the UCs its still relatively early. I just sent in a secondary for SD myself this week so go for it. They are more selective with the secondaries they send out later.

tati, i received mine about 2 weeks ago and felt the same way. I did it and droshan- you give confidence. I completed mine last week and it says i am complete on the site but the days are still counting down and I have not received confirmation of the completed secondary- is it okay or should i call to be sure

Man... that's good to hear. I was just told I'm in a small pool of people who remain who have been pulled out for a possible secondary. I sent and update in which I feel strengthens my app a bit, so hopefully I'll hear some good news from UCSD soon! If I could stay in the SD region I'd be pretty freaking happy!

Thanks Regley and vmanforever for the advice. I'm planning on finishing it this weekend and hopefully be complete soon. The only problem is that they don't have my letters of rec but I know I sent them in July....🙁 I guess I'm going to have to call the admissions office, even though I've read other posts that said they are not all that helpful with status updates.

Good luck to the rest of you!

LORs are supposed to be submitted only after you receive a secondary request, which may explain why they're not marked as received, and this means that you need to re-submit them.

Is that specifically for UC Davis? I sent a bulk VE package to every school I applied to and they were received even before they requested a secondary. I guess I'll send it again...just in case.

I think it's true for all the UC's. I know it's true for at least some of them (including UCSF, among others).

This is the 8th week after the first interviews were held, so hopefully by Friday some acceptances will be sent! :xf:

called this morning... they are barely having their first adcom meeting this week. said not to expect anything until next week.

Just in case anyone else was in the same boat as me, I called the admissions office and they told me that if I sent them my letters of rec before they requested a secondary that they were still in the computer and all they had to do is download them. So you can save your money and not send it again as long as you sent your letters via VE (virtual evals).

PS. was complete in 3 days from when I received my secondary...hopefully I get a quick turn around like some other people :luck:

I just got off the phone with the Director of Admissions and Outreach, Ed Dagang, and he said that the first decisions post-interview are expected to go out around the end of February. He said that all information would be relayed electronically and that one can check their status on the applicant portal used for the secondary application. He also sounded irritated by my call. It seems like other people have heard similar things, although some have said that we might hear something sooner. Either way, it seems like calling them is useless. Just thought y'all should know.

Thank you so much for keeping us updated-- the info is greatly appreciated! Seems like we've got a lot of waiting to do... *sigh*

End of February? Sigh...looks like I'll be spending another chunk of money going to interviews that I would've dropped for UC Davis. I'm starting to hate plane rides, and I'm using up so much of the money I had saved up hoping to pay for part of my med school tuition. 🙁

Just interviewed yesterday.

First off, Davis is an amazing school and I really hope I get in.

Second, Mr. Dagang gave a small breakdown of numbers which might give you some hope:

There were about 4700 applications to Davis this year.
They gave out 2600 secondary applications
They will interview 400 - 500 people (still giving them out, so don't worry if you haven't gotten one yet!)
They are giving out the first wave of acceptances in February (reconfirming pakola's info)
They will in total give out around 200 - 250 offers of admission to fill a total class of around 105.

Hope that info helps you relax (and doesn't give you a heart attack). Good luck with the rest of your applications.

Did Ed confirm that it wouldn't be until the end of February? Thats a real bummer if thats true.

I am an Oregon Resident and received a secondary invite to UCD, I've already been accepted to OHSU. Should I consider applying to UCD? Not sure how much different UCD OOS tuition is and if it's even worth it. Your insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.

Congratulations on your acceptance to OHSU. OOS tuition is nearly $40k at UCD (link). There's really no reason in my mind for you to complete this unless you actually think you would turn down OHSU and in-state tuition for UCD and OOS tuition. As far as I can tell, both schools are held in similar regard and similar opportunities exist at both.

If you're not worried about the money then by all means fill it out. You can always evaluate the school firsthand and form your own opinion if you get an interview. I was personally quite impressed with the school and enjoyed my visit. I turned down OHSU's invitation because I couldn't imagine forking over the $$$ for OOS tuition. I was afraid that I would be blown away by the school and would have to make a tough decision. You may have to consider this for your reversed situation.

Thanks so much ScottyT. OHSU IS tuition is 35k. But you're right.. it would be a tough decision if I were blown away by the school. =D

I hear that. I'm in the same boat with you. I want to end the shenanigans and some good news from UC Davis would stop them in their tracks.

for those who received interview invites, did you guys complete your year of English before you applied?

I'm worried because I have yet to take an English class in college and I only have a quarter left before I apply.

thanks

I'm getting so nervous. I've been complete since 10/09 and haven't heard back from them.

At least reject me now instead of drawing it out and making it torturous!

Has anyone gotten an actual, concrete answer by calling or emailing about your status? I just get the: "Oh, you're complete, so you're probably under review. That's all I can tell you."

I want to write a LOI to them that has very few updates and mostly a lot of begging. Haha. Seriously. Born and raised in CA, educated in UC system. . . what is all this crap about giving preference to CA residents? Give ME preference too.

I hate the waiting game.

GPA: 3.68
Science GPA: 3.52
MCAT: 31
The usual shadowing, volunteering, clubs, research, working as a teacher for learning disabled kids. . .

Do I have a chance?

I just remembered. . .I started the teaching job and volunteering at a hospital after I submitting the secondary. Should I send an update letter despite their said refusal to accept them?

I personally finished my year already when I applied. However, most schools ask that you finish your requirements prior to matriculation, not necessarily prior to applying. Definitely take your English courses next year and you should be fine. BUT... the best way to be certain is to ask UCD. Good luck!

Should I send an update letter despite their said refusal to accept them?

I did and they jsut sent me an email back saying they will not update my application with the letter. So don't waste your time.

they allow you to send updates within a week of your interview thou right?

Within 1 week after your interview, yes.

I must have been unlucky or something, but I did exactly just that and still got an email back saying that they don't have a system for accepting updates! Since there had been so many other glitches, I never asked about it and just assumed that the one week after your interview window to update was also wrong information. Did anybody else get a different outcome?

That's odd, I got an e-mail on the same day as my interview telling me that I could send in an update. I e-mailed the address in the letter and never got anything back so I assumed they got it. They may have changed their procedure though as I know mine was one of the first dates.

Did you get an e-mail asking for an update after your interview?
