omg.

I wake up, saw an email in inbox with title UW SMPH

I was like omg, maybe they are doing email final decisions in addition to postal mail this year?

then i read more and its a survey 🙁

Has anyone who interviewed in early October heard anything yet? They said we would hear by the end of the month...

Well, they said we would "probably" hear between oct 15-30.

You can call the admissions office personally, but "it's not going to come out for at least another 2 weeks."

I interviewed on Oct. 3 and, while I'm a NY resident, I am considered IS in Wisconsin for admissions/tuition purposes because I went to high school there and both my parents still live there. Got the letter by snail mail. 🙂

congrats, we interviewed same day.

Did you sit at the table closer to the powerpoint or the table towards the back?

does anyone know if Nov 21st interview invites have gone out yet? thanks!

Does anyone who has interviewed more recently (within the last 2 weeks) have an idea of how long it will be before you receive a decision on your application? I know people who interviewed in early October are just receiving the news. I'm interviewing on Friday and am curious to know if I will get a decision before the mid-December acceptance deposit deadline I have at other schools. Thanks!

I interviewed 10/17 and they said 4-6 weeks.

UW Madison is changing their admissions system. It's going to be a lot less of a rolling admissions system now.

Post interview every applicant is given a rating. Only applicants with superstar ratings are given acceptances, so only very few people have gotten acceptances so far.

The rest will all hear back some time in April apparently, when the first actual pool of acceptances are given out.

WHAT?! are you serious? where did you get this information?

I have my sources 🙂

There should be a mass email/postal mail sent out soon to tell us this officially about the change in admissions policy

Oh, and I should mention that my rating wasn't stud enough to make the cut, otherwise I probably would of received the final decision letter already 🙁 Here's to April!

Does this apply to OOS applicants? If so this is terrible news.

I'd assume so, but I didn't think of asking about OOS. I'm gonna guess that it is in general, although OOS might be different. Either way, if you don't receive a final decision letter this month, I guess it would be that way for OOS too.

So I guess UW's system is going to be more like a few other schools now. Very small group, then a larger group in the spring.

I was going to plan the rest of my interviews depending on my Wisc decision. Doesn't look like I can do that anymore 🙁

I was planning on doing the same thing. Guess I won't hold my breath and hope I get lucky - otherwise, c'mon, hurry up April!

This is just further evidence of the incompetence of the UW admissions office. As an in-state student I now have no desire to study here whatsoever. They already do their best to limit diversity and throw a wrench into the curriculum every year or two. The've also changed the prerequisite courses twice in the last two years, making it difficult to keep up to date and effectively excluding OOS students who don't want to bother. CURRENT/FUTURE APPLICANTS BEWARE!

*Sigh* Why do I still like this place so much??

They aren't incompetent, they are just trying to admit the best possible applicants. There's a reason why many schools do not offer rolling admission.

The change in the pre-req should not really be a problem for most people. Most pre-meds take statistics and biochemistry, those that did not can take them in the senior year or the summer session. If this is enough of a turn off, then you probably wouldn't be happy at Madison anyways.

I am disappointed that I won't find out if I get in until April? Yes! Especially since Oct 15th was the date printed on the MSAR for Madison. However, I do understand their reasoning for changing the process. Madison is becoming much harder to get in each year, the change was bound to occur sooner or later.

is this a joke? APRIL?!?! I called just last week and they said they would be sending out letters in the next couple days. They sure changed their minds fast. I think they should have at least let us all know! Now we won't have much time after finding out to make decisions by may 15th.

Can some of you guys try calling in to confirm it? Just be up front and ask if the first large batch of acceptances are going out in April.

Just called. File is currently under review by admissions committee. Will hear in 2 weeks. Supposedly.

Nice. Either it's different for OOS, or I've been pulled a prank on, haha. I asked him if he was serious and he kept a straight face so I dunno.

Just called the admissions office. They informed me that they are still using rolling admissions when it comes to decisions, and that letters are being sent out today for some. Due to poor cell phone reception I was unable to find out what interview dates were being given decisions.

ignore everything i wrote then. maybe the person i spoke to knew i was already on a hold/waitlist or something, im so worried now

Hey guys - I interviewed at Madison yesterday and just wanted to let you know what they told us. We had about 24 people in our group and they said they randomly select 15-18 people every week. Then these applications are given to a faculty/admissions committee member (can't remember which) and they have a week to review the individual. Then the applicant is presented to the committe (which meets every Tuesday) and the committee makes a decision, which is sent out 1-2 weeks later. So the earliest we would receive a decision would be within 3-4 weeks (if we got randomly selected for review right away) or up to 6-8 (if not selected right away). So it they're still using rolling admissions, at least for this cycle.

So did anyone here get a letter? I'm still waiting, I'm really worried now because I interviewed the first possible day, and I was told my app has already been reviewed by adcom, yet I still haven't gotten a decision. My "safety" doesn't feel so "safe" any more 🙁

I'm looking for some advice. I interviewed on Friday and loved Madison. I've been accepted at a few DO schools but this has been my only MD interview and the school is at the top of my list. Do you think it would help/hurt me to send a letter of intent to be added to my file? Also, I'm doing research this year and the PI I work for wants to write a letter of recommendation for my file. Do you think adding this would help/hurt me? Am I better off to leave my file alone or would adding either/both of these things be beneficial to me? I'm just curious because I'm a re-applicant with about average stats (average for Madison) Thanks!

try calling the admissions office and ask, they are usually the ones who handle updates to your application.

And you better hurry, adcom meets every tuesday, so if you get reviewed tomorrow and it's not even in your file yet, then it probably won't help unless if you get waitlisted or something. More than likely though you won't be reviewed until next Tuesday, but regardless you should call ASAP and send the letters ASAP.

When I interviewed, they said that they do not take any updates or add anything to your file post-interview. They said your file is complete once interview day is over, and sending extra stuff wouldn't help.

I called the office again today and was told that a decision was made on my application on the 14th, and so I should be getting a letter any day now. (I interviewed on the 1st day, too).

I was discussed by the adcom at a meeting two weeks ago 🙁

When I mentioned earlier that no one hears until April from an inside source, I was completely incorrect. I asked the person when I would hear back, he responded in April. He probably thought I had already received the Alternate List letter and was asking about the rankings.

I just received the alternate list letter in the mail today, and in it it's stated that the rankings will be given out in April.

Anyways, sorry for the confusion, congratulations to those of you who got accepted, and good luck to those of you who received the alternate list letter.

Finally decided to go ahead and apply to UMichigan. I had the supplemental app invitation sitting in my email inbox for over 4 months, but never submitted the fee because I'd rather go to Madison. Not anymore...

🙁 That's a bummer. Alternate list = waitlist? And if you get on that list you don't find out until April??? That still sucks.

Still new word from Wisconsin here. I emailed the admissions office, no response either. haha

I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but when does UW send out rejections? Do they send them out after reviewing files and deciding that the candidate isn't what they're looking for, or do they wait until some magical date (like March 15th)? It'd be nice to have some closure.

Pretty much. In April the higher ranking alternate list applicants will receive a waitlist letter with the actual ranking, that's what the lady told me at least.

And yea, they probably have to wait until April because otherwise they can't really rank you until they interview/review everyone.

For all of you that interviewed already here's where UW is....
I had an interview 10/31 and was reviewed this week. I got an email from Lucy telling me that I'm being put aside for the moment until I send them my transcripts from this semester then I will go back to the table. So people that interviewed 10/31 should be hearing this week.

Good luck guys!

AHHHHH!!! I'm sooooo nervous now!!!!

Anyone know if the Ad Com is meeting this week?

I hope they are meeting. I called yesterday to check my status and was told that OOS applications still haven't been reviewed by the committee. She then told me that it may be December or January before I hear. 😕

I believe they are meeting right now, and for the past 68 minutes.

hahaha. No thank you, that would just hasten my alternate list status into a rejection 😀

Interview invite for January 23rd 😀

They must've forgotten about me, because I have no decisions still!

Aren't you decided on JHU?? Would you even go to Wisconsin if you were accepted?

If not, please do the rest of us OOSer who are holding onto Wisconsin with our dreams and futures a favor and...withdraw?

Thanks much, and with love 😍

I recently interviewed here and want to second this request!!! If you're just feeding your ego and want to see another acceptance with no intention of attending, please withdraw and help us OOS'ers out who truly find this school amazing and want to attend badly... obviously if you are on the fence then ignore this...

I had doubts going into this interview, but was blown away by the quality of the school and physical facilities, it truly would be a wonderful place to spend four years.

I recently interviewed, was placed on the alternate list for a WEEK, and got an e-mail offer today!!

I did not expect to hear anything until April so I called the office and the woman said that it is not uncommon for them to look over their numbers in December and January and re-review applications again. So anyone that is on the alternate list... you may not have to wait until April!!

When did you interview? How long after your interview did you get the waitlist letter?
