yikes...i still haven't gotten my secondary yet. are they super selective or just slow?

Does Albany receive the LORs from Amcas? In their secondary there was only room for two letters, but I submitted 3 to Amcas. You think they will look at all 3 or just the two I specified?

i found out today that they don't take AMCAS letters -- they aren't on the list of schools using it this year. they do do Virtual Evals, and you can also have the letters arranged to be mailed.

Oh definitely. The non-academic accomplishment that we are most proud of. There is always a question like that, for some school. lol

um..i am a tad confused. I am a reapplicant but I didn't apply to Albany last go round so do I need to check the current letter of recommendation box? I mean I have new and update ones but they don't have my old ones and the lor instructions talk about the previous application being retained so do I do this part:

I am a re-applicant. In addition to the letters in my 2009 application, a current letter will be submitted by:

Thanks

No, approach it like a new applicant, because that is what you are to them.

Thanks! That saves me a lot of wasted time. I wonder why they don't join the AMCAS letter service?

Does anybody know if you can send more than two LORs to Albany?

I still havnt received this secondary either. I figure more then 2 is fine, well hopefully since my packet has 6 letters.

My friend did - but she is a grad student - sent an undergraduate committee letter and 3 additional letters from grad. I'm guessing this means anyone can send extra letters.

From their secondary instructions:
Any number of supplemental letters of recommendation may be submitted; however, letters from relatives, friends of the family, casual acquaintances or elected officials are discouraged.

For anyone who submitted the secondary, does your status page say "Yes" for the application, fee, or LOR being received? How long did it take between submitting and getting a status update?

edit: nvm, took about 3 days to update my status.

Does anyone know Albany's MCAT policy regarding multiple scores? I took it three times and improved by four pts in last two attempts. 🙂 I have been trying to call them but even after long message and when I select an option to talk to an admissions staff member, it just goes back to recording.! Anyone know?

does anyone else's status page say that they received your committee letter but then have a "no" next to letters being complete and a "no" next to the application complete?

nevermind: I just logged in and i have all "yes"s now, I guess it just took them a few days to switch them

I added Albany a few days ago and still no secondary.

It is possible that your letters have been received but are not yet reflected here. This category is updated to "yes" when we process your application and have determined that your letters of recommendation meet our requirements. If you believe that your recommendation (s) have already been sent to us and don't see that reflected here, please check with the Admissions office first before sending a duplicate set of recommendations.

i remember having no's by LOR

My status looks the same as yours ^.

I just emailed them since it indicates they received all of my letters but I'm still not complete.

Just got a response. Although my letters showed up, they still have to process my app which is why it's not considered "complete". Hope that helps.

Did anyone else notice that the PIN number they give you isn't even... a number? lol I just found that funny

Did you notice that you're redundant in saying "Personal Identification Number number?" 😉

It's your 0.00 GPA and 3 on the MCAT 🙂

Hah, i had it filled out but then i got nervous. I'll fill it back out better once I get a couple interviews (i hope). I have pretty average stats if you want to know though, but some cool ECs.

i'm torn on the 'life experience' essay... do i go with the activity where i acquired extensive leadership experience even though it wasn't in the medical field? or the one where i acquired great clinical experience? hmmmm....

For the "Estimate your hours" section, what should I put for my research? Info:

I was a lab assistant for 2 years (racked up ~1200 hours).

Since last September '08, I have been doing my own project (not an "assistant" anymore), and I have racked up about ~700 hours and counting.

So should I list 700 hours for my research, or list 1900 hours?

Thanks!

they have received everything, but i'm still not marked complete...

anyone in this same situation? comtemplating about calling,

anyone in this same situation? comtemplating about calling,

It takes them a while. I think they were having trouble with LOR status before too. First, they had mine listed, but they still had a "No" for completed, so I was wondering if they had received the LOR but that it didn't fulfill their requirements, but eventually it was changed to "Yes" and I was marked complete for review. Overall it took over a week from when I submitted. Call if you're really concerned though.

Does the 1,000 character limit include spaces as well? How do I know when I have reached my limit? The text box doesn't stop me from typing any further....

Well, type in word or notepad, the copy and paste

finally got all Yeses on the status page, guess I'm complete! wee.

I am, but that only tells me how many words...would a paragraph be 1,000 characters?

Hey, yeah I'm typing it in MS word, but that only tells me how many words there are, not characters.
Highlight the words/characters you want to count. Click on Tools>Word Count...

Gives me pages, words, characters (without spaces), characters (with spaces), paragraphs, and lines.

you can also use google documents. Tools --> wordcount will tell you character as well as word counts.
