Whooooooa don't misinterpret me. I'm all for rolling admissions, I was a little late in the season, and I respect it wholeheartedly. The reason I said that was that if I am actually on the line between yes and no, I would rather be compared to other students in a large group of students than in a group consisting only of students who interviewed in my particular week. I think it is more representative of how a student fits in to the school when compared in a larger sample size. That's all.

My question was how they maintain their evaulation of a student current as time passes - when the interview was further back for some students than for others when a committee meeting is held. Obviously a more recent interview would be fresher in an interviewer's mind, but the admissions system knows that, and different schools have different ways of addressing and normalizing this fact. lol I didn't mean to spark conflict!

On another note, it finally hit me the other day that we are only 4.5 months away from begininng medical school. Quite a delayed reaction and an electrifying/terrifying/overwhelmingly joyous feeling all at once.
The rest of you, have you been accepted elsewhere? We're here because we're all obviously hoping and praying for Case, but either way, what are you guys doing with your these last months before we start the marathon?

That is an interesting issue: How do they standardize quality across the year? I know other schools have standard forms filled out by interviewers, more rigid criteria, etc.

In terms of plans for the next few months, I'm holding a pair of acceptances, waiting to hear on a couple more schools (one of which is Case). I'm finishing up a Master's, and then hopefully traveling a bit before schools starts. What you peeps up to?

It's not a dartboard, that's for sure. But from what I understand, we go over your application and interview feedback again to see who'd fit best in our next class.

are you saying people who were put on hold post-interview will find out their final fates at Case the first week of March or shortly thereafter?
When I said "we" I was referring to myself and my interview group. I assume we will find out whether we are accepted, rejected, or placed on hold some time in early March. I do not know when Case will make final decisions, but I assume they'll really start filling the class once their interview season is over and people start accepting/declining.

I disagree, respectfully of course. Students who managed to apply early should be rewarded with a timely decision.
As someone who applied early, got offered an interview early, but could not interview until mid-February, I can understand Case's reluctance to hand out lots of admissions until they complete their interview season. It's not like they haven't been handing out any admissions, they've just been selective until they've seen the whole group instead of comparing people week to week.

Well, I interviewed in October, and my status is still in limbo. I don't feel as though creating a longer wait for me is as fair. What's more, if they want to see the "whole group," what's the point of a rolling admissions system at all?

It means we grab the superstars/peoplewhoaregreatatinterviewing first. Also, it's just not feasible to evaluate everyone all at one time.

I shouldn't say it's unfair, it is what it is and I am happy I had the opporunity to interview at Case and still be considered for a spot. But waiting really sucks, and it would be nice if schools tried to minimize applicants' wait.

In response to Myuu's comment, you do make a great point. However, since my interviewer talked a majority of the time, I doubt that it could be discerned whether or not I was a "superstar" or "great at interviewing," even though I believe I built a good rapport with my interviewer. Also, most schools outside of the US interview all applicants over a few given days in a non-rolling admissions process, so it certainly is possible and feasible. Now, whether or not their admission and interview processes are preferable is debatable, but I just want to clarify that it certainly is feasible.

Given the resources we have (which is to say faculty availability), the size of our applicant pool, and the importance that we attach to fit (we're fit-crazed here), this is not a feasible solution for us. Again, people who make a very strong positive impression on paper and in their interviews tend to get picked up first. So, plenty of people who have good, but not amazing/mindblowing, interviews go on hold for later evaluation.

We talk about crushing the Mayo Clinic thread for posts and views...but since we did that awhile ago I guess we should talk about how we are still only in 3rd place for views overall....refresh the page...now!🙂

Hey... maybe we need to do a parody and highights page of our own thread!

Challenge: Everybody take a page (in order), and make an executive summary of the all 50 posts on the page and post it! Then...when we have all 35 pages summarized, we can summarize them into another overall summary...

OK...back to work....

LOL..wait for me it says there are 72 pages in this thread...is there a way to change it so that you see more posts per page??

can we find out who started the eggplants thing?

It's been rather fantastic these last three days.😀 I just went out in a t-shirt. Life is good.
Hmm, I think we speaketh much too soon....

Is there any chance that Match Day results for Case (or for my selfish curosity, CCLCM in particular) will be published?🙂
Yes, they will. I'll post them here for you.

Also, don't folks find out soon if they didn't match (aka The Scramble)? Isn't that something like a week or so before The Match?
The Monday before Match Day, which is always on a Thursday.

I think its the Monday before the Match Day, which is on a Thursday. IIRC. So that'd be in like 2 or 3 weeks from today?
Right.

The earliest CCLCM/UP combined interview they could schedule was more than three months after they sent me the invite...
This is the reason why I interviewed so late also. I was super early with all my apps, and got invited to interview at Case/CCLCM I think like the end of September, but I couldn't get a combined interview date until toward the end of January.

Last day of interviews!
Here too.

Start at post #1 and read through. There's no substitute for the true Case app thread experience.

You are totally insane, man.

Hmm, I seem to remember it was some person with a name like a noble gas. Something like that.

AAAAhhhhh.... the Classic Chicken or the Eggplant dilemma.

Alright...so...If I summarize two pages (a mere 100 posts) at a time in 100 words and do the first two pages tonight...will anybody be bold enough to carry the torch on?

Shemarty: Prompts & LOR Reqs
Bunch of people: Yay! I can't wait for the application season to begin!
Myuu: Yup. Lots of engineers here
CCLCMer: Yeah.
Myuu: We love nontrads too!
Rockaction: Secondaries are out!
Myuu: Good luck everybody!
Buffywannabe: Is there a separate CCLCM thread?
CCLCMer: Nope.

Ah, memories!

The thread is pretty mundane up until now...
You forgot all the talk about who is the best/coolest doctor in Star Trek:TNG. Obviously essential for any Case applicant. Arguments for doctors in other shows like Battlestar Galactica are also acceptable.

Hey guys! My classmates from SCA have a question: For those of you who have been accepted to the university program, have you received your second look materials/info yet?

nope. last Case correspondence was Christian's weekly newsletter, which said 2nd Look stuff would be sent this coming week.

Ah, memories!

Yeah, how ironic 🙂 my knee hurts again from falling down a couple times while ice skating yesterday (free ice skating event with the nursing school!)

question for UP students - what are exams like? are they writing/multiple choice? how frequent are they? since anatomy is integrated into the curriculum, how is anatomy tested? lab practicals every once in a while?

The anatomy/histopath written exams are multiple choice and on Tuesday of the last week of the block. The anatomy practical follows on the same day. The exam on everything else is on Thursday of that week. On Friday, there's a mock nbme exam that's multiple choice, but doesn't affect your grade. All "written" exams are done on computer.

Each block gets progressively longer (so far, anyway), so they're not spaced at even intervals.

When I interviewed for the University Program this last week, they told us that we had as much chance to get in as people who interviewed earlier because they'd been putting pretty much everyone on hold to evaluate at the same time. They also said that they'd be meeting the first week of March and we should find out about our status shortly thereafter.

Is it the same for CCLCM...Will everyone put on hold be evaluated again before they make the decision on final acceptances?

and is the last committee meeting on march 3rd? so people accepted in the last batch will hear back by the the end of the week, friday, march 5th? (cclcm)

No...I didn't forget...I just summarized the first 6 pages....6 down...68 to go...🙂
You are totally insane, man. I admire that in an incoming freshman.

They already sent out a bunch of rejections a few months ago, so I'm guessing that if you were still on hold after that, you will probably be reviewed again. But I'm really not sure.

The meeting is on March 4, not March 3. I don't know if Dean Franco will make the calls this Friday or the week after.

dang! you beat me by mere seconds...I was going to quote you:

The blocks range from 12-14 weeks. They don't necessarily get progressively longer.

so you don't have exams till the end of those 12-14 week periods?

Generally that is correct. However, for block 6 this year, due to popular demand, they decided to have the anatomy exam when neuroanatomy was completed after approximately week 6.

Second look weekend email came out today, already sent in my reservation (did not know a waitlist was made for this haha).

Quick question I didn't see addressed in the email: What attire do we wear?

Ha! Just look for the older candidate, of muscular stature (note: this is a polite way of saying "having the girth of a muscular man" not to be confused with "a muscular man"), with an Armani suit and Fruit-of-the-Loom Size 13 tubesocks and Birkenstocks.

...although I'm afraid I might not stand out enough...perhaps a red carnation too?
Make it pink, and wear a white sport coat. 👍

Well, I took CCLCMer's advice for interview day...you might want to follow suit (no pun intended!). It worked for me.

No seriously...since I withdrew from the UP, I don't know what the itinerary looks like.

I suspect you will want to be business casual for most of the events, but bring of course your interview suit for anything formal, like dinners and perhaps the initial reception? It doesn't hurt to overdress for at first and adjust accordingly as the weekend goes.

Also, bring your spring parka in case it gets unseasonably warm. :meanie:

Hi all,

So the second look invites were sent today! There has always been a waitlist in the past, and the slots fill up fast. So respond quickly! 🙂 (and also say quickly if you can't come, because someone is waiting for that spot)

Business casual is good for the events. Ties and jackets aren't necessary for guys, even for the alumni dinners. Look nice to go to someone's house for dinner.

In my opinion, a jacket would have been a hindrance during Second Look last year. A nice, button shirt on khaki pants is good enough, go with tie if you like to.

Hope this helps!

Just got the confirmation packet, dress is business casual for the alumni dinner and just casual for the day events.

Thanks! So if I'm not sure whether I will be able to attend, I should go ahead and reserve first anyway and then cancel later if I can't go?

If I am reading this correctly, they're paying for the hotel and activities but we'll have to buy our own plane tickets there?

Right, hotel and activities are paid for, but not transportation

If you do decide to reserve and then cancel, please notify the office immediately.

This is just professional courtesy and people who coordinate this event need to rearrange hotels and activities.

If you say you're going to come then don't show up without telling anyone, its not only a financial waste, but a spot that could've gone to someone else who would've liked to come.

will the people that just interviewed not be getting these invites then? Its march 1st today, does that mean comittee meet today and decisions out tomorrow?

EDIT: nevermind, i read the previous page. wish i got a case interview earlier so i would have followed this place earlier, this thread sounds ridiculous

So do any Case UPers have any inside info on whether post-interview hold people are getting re-reviewed today? Or are they still reviewing the last applicants who interviewed in Feb? I'm so excited to hear back soon, I really hope it's good news!

Am I the only one who can't login to iApply? I keep getting a server-side runtime error after I enter my username and password. 😡
