No, but I'll see if I can find out.

You send me the car first. I've had too many people telling me that the car is on the delivery truck. :meanie:

This:

Yes, you should contact Dr. Franco and ask for an extension. I had the same problem and did the same thing when I applied. In the meantime, you should withdraw from all other schools that are definite no-goes by April 15.

No idea.

She doesn't know either.

I'm lovin' it! 😀

I'll see if I can find something out for you guys.

The meeting started about an hour and a half ago, so obviously she's tied up right now. 😛

Your car is in the mail (man, did I get some funny looks for driving it into the lobby of the post office). Now, please walk into the committee meeting and help me win 😀

What a stupid email. Another example of the randomness and ridiculousness of the medical school admissions process where you really can't trust anything the admissions committee tells you until the process is really over. After being made to believe that it is quite common to be placed on hold post-interview and many people get accepted off this list, we find out today that the hold status is essentially a rejection. Absolutely absurd.

I agree with you 100%, man. total bs

Y'all get that hold status email? Kinda messed up. I was under the impression that holds could go straight to acceptances sometime soon (as opposed to waitlist then acceptance). Or maybe some did get off hold already? A lot of this stuff is bs. I don't know. All I do know is I'm tired of waitlists.

Yeah, I have to say that I am a little disappointed in Case. I am still very grateful I haven't been rejected (yet), but I called the admissions office at the beginning of Feb and they told me no holds would be looked at until the interview season was over but both the admissions people and the hold letter made it sound like holds could go straight to acceptance at the point people are reevaluated. But now I know a very few hold people got accepted before the interview season was even over, and now noone else is going to get an outright acceptance...just a review for a possible waitlist. I wish they would get their story straight and stick to it so I wouldn't have gotten my hopes of an acceptance up. I worked really hard on a letter of interest I sent in and updates I included, and I really thought it turned out well now only to find out it doesn't even matter. I still love Case, but this was just a big let down. Back to more waiting...

Is anyone else accepted to case from StL or surrounding areas? Just wondering if anyone wants to carpool to Case for the second look and save money. All this flying around the country for interviews has left me broke beyond all reason.

Well said. I also feel that I was made to believe that applicants still have a good shot at being accepted after being placed on post-interview hold (in January, might I add), and not a mediocre shot at making it onto the wait list.

I was put on hold in October, figured I was rejected. I got a call in early Feb saying that I was accepted. Hold doesn't mean rejection!!

Regarding the "hold" status confusion: just spoke to a friend of mine who is an M3 at Case, who spoke to Christian on Monday...they just made more offers than anticipated at this stage of the game and are wary of over-subscribing the class. For what it's worth, he got in off the hold status during his cycle, and thought I'd have a great chance at a similar outcome.

Guess I'll have to cross my fingers to be waitlisted...ah deferred gratification.

Chalk it up to an amazing applicant pool!

I got the email, too. I'm sooooooooooooooo done with waiting. 👎 Rationally I know that it's better to be on the waitllist than rejected, but from an emotional standpoint I would take outright rejection over more waiting.

This process is giving me gray hairs... literally!

This.

As soon as anyone knows when dean Franco is going to make her calls, let us know!!!!!!!!
The official word is that it will be either Monday or Tuesday of next week.

That makes such an awesome picture in my mind.

Good luck, everyone! :luck:

CCLCMer, I'll need your address to send you your matchbox car. :meanie:

It's all I can afford for now!

Next year when I get out of here and I'm making the big resident bucks, I'll get a new car....by which I probably mean a lovingly preowned car, depending on where I match.

I feel the posts above gave a pretty good description of what the hold letter said (hold --> wait-list --> acceptance), but would you mind posting the contents of the letter here?

If the applicants on hold really have to get screened twice before acceptance, that would suck!

No problem. It does seem that folks with any hope of acceptance at this point do need to get screened again to get on a waitlist. Even then, you aren't guaranteed anything. Oh look, I found another gray hair!

Hello!

We have concluded our interview season and held the final Admissions Committee meeting this week. As of today, we are not in the position to make any additional acceptances, but do anticipate that some will likely be made from our alternate list this spring; at the end of the month, we will invite some applicants from the "hold" pool to be on this alternate list. We know that admissions season can be quite stressful, and we thank you for your continued patience throughout this long process.

We wish you the best,
Dr. Mehta and Mr. Essman

Updated: now with 200% more added strife! Free, for a limited time only! *grin with gleaming teeth*

It is VERY disappointing that my hold could ONLY turn into a waitlist spot at this point. I thought that it had been hold for possible acceptance... now that there's only a waitlist that I'm not even ON yet, and I'm located somewhere in a bunch of "helds" with who knows how many others and only a slight chance of getting onto just the waitlist, I really don't see a possiblility that the waitlist could get to the point that enough people drop off the list for me to be squeezed in. How short would the waitlist have to be? I'm in the backups of the backups and this isn't just a plan B school for most all applicants here.

Part of me wants that freaking bandaid to just be ripped off. But I have to admit, and maybe I'm just a wimp, that I'm still happy that I wasn't rejected. Even if it IS just a microscopically slim possibility. But that's certainly because I already have one acceptance. If not, I would probably have to go check myself in upstairs for an hypertension at this point, upon receiving this email. As it is, it's just being dragged out painfully like a long-unrequited love. Reminds me of high school T_T

I'm considering this a soft rejection - the kind where they leave you with a sliver of hope, but the chances are so slim it's not worth calling it anything else.

...but note I haven't left this thread yet. What does that say about me and unrequited love?

I totally agree with you. It's too bad for Case as well since I'm sure there are some really good applicants who are just tired of being jerked around and will decide to withdraw instead of wait to possibly get waitlisted only to wait some more in hopes of getting accepted off the waitlist. I also have another acceptance at a good school so I will be honest that as much as I like Case this damn letter is really tempting me to withdraw as well.

Chalk it up to an amazing applicant pool!
Agreed!!! Makes me want to meet you students and accepteds even more. >_< You must really rock if they like you better than me, because I certainly know I'm freaking awesome! 😀 hahaha

That said, I will now focus the microscope into higher resolution on that tiny sliver - was there already a wait list, or are they saying it will be freshly generated later this spring from this holding pool?

Or is this just being masochistic at this point? >_<

The official word is that it will be either Monday or Tuesday of next week.

Good luck, everyone! :luck:

Thanks! :xf:

As a minor distraction, I've already sent in my FAFSA to Case (the UP is going to need it regardless). Should I be sending in my tax forms and W2s now as well or do they only need it later?

So, turns out I can't make the UP 2nd look. I'm not missing out too much, right?? 🙁

last thursday was the final adcom meeting for the college track right? so how many people should be getting calls next week?

There will be around ten acceptances, same as before.

:'(

So....you'll be in Columbus I suppose? :meanie:

Nope! My brother's wedding reception thing just happened to be that weekend as well, and my parents didn't tell me till now. So no Second Looks for me! I had planned on going to Case's over OSU's, tho 👍

....hmmm...too bad! How many brothers do you have? And how many times to you get to go to med school?

I'm just saying...if you have more than one brother, or anticipate he will get married more than once...:meanie:

That's not mean at all, no.:meanie::laugh:

How's it going Myuu?

Long time no see? Have any good food lately?🙂 You gonna be around for Revisit for us CPers who are not coming to the UP events?

You suggesting I crash your second look?:meanie:

Will the CCLCM acceptance calls go out tomorrow or Tuesday?
Were people on hold or high hold re-reviewed?
When is the LAST meeting for the CCLCM excom?

Thanks! 🙂

I'm not sure. Dean Franco said it would either be today or tomorrow, so she might do it today. If so, the calls would come late afternoon/early evening.

Were people on hold or high hold re-reviewed?
Yes, some of them were.

When is the LAST meeting for the CCLCM excom?
Last week was the last meeting. The class will be full after this round of acceptances, and any further acceptances will come off the waitlist after some of the currently accepted people withdraw. You will all be getting your final decisions by snail mail within the next few weeks.

Thanks! 🙂
No problem. Good luck, everyone. :luck:

So.... anyone else ridiculously nervous? I'm not even sure if my file got re-reviewed this time...

It's not even me, and I am in anticipation too.

Unfortunately, I have some bad news for you guys. Dean Franco will not be able to make any calls until after the UP adcomm finishes voting on the CCLCM acceptances. That will be on Wednesday, so the very earliest she could make calls is Thursday. But she said it was more likely going to be Friday, late afternoon/early evening. Sorry, but you're going to have to hang on for a couple more days....

Curses! I thought the UP and CP had separate admissions committees? Oh well, thanks for the info.

We do. But their adcomm votes on our adcomm's admission decisions also.

That's interesting, is it just a rubber stamp kind of thing? Or do you know if there have been instances where the UP committee vetoes a CCLCM acceptance? I can't imagine it happening very often, if at all.
