The first prompt is called an autobiographical essay, but then it asks to describe a challenge.

Did you guys describe yourselves at all in the essay and your motivations to become a doctor, or just stick to writing about adversity you faced?

I talked exclusively about the adversity I faced, and how that affected me as a person. I made no mention of wanting to be a physician or anything like that.

It's autobiographical in the sense that it's something you wrote about yourself. Note that this is different from an autobiography, which is you telling the story of your life. It's slight, but there's a significant difference between an autobiography and something autobiographical.

Stick to writing about the adversity, with whatever background details are necessary for the reader to fully understand the adversity, and you'll be all good. 👍

I just got an email from case telling me that there was an update on my status page and that I should check my messages. I went to the status page and everything looks the same as it did before, plus I don't really know how to check my messages, hmm

Anyone else receive this message?

I don't mean to fuel the application neuroses (which I still remember myself ), but keep checking. Sometimes the e-mail comes and the actual update shows up a few hours later - at least, that's something that happened in past cycles. For what that's worth.

You're right! INTERVIEW INVITE!! This makes all the stressing over secondaries worthwhile.

Not sure what this is, so I am gonna say that I don't have it.

The top part of the status page shows when you submitted and when you are complete.

At the bottom of your status page are headings with the program/s you are applying to and the very last heading is additional documents. Some posters have had an update with a "visitor's guide" and have then received interview invites. However another poster has the update without being complete.

I have the visitor's guide, but CCLCMer says I won't have any invites anytime soon because I applied to both programs. My guess is that everybody has it.

congrats everyone again!

I've read different things on this thread, but I was wondering if anyone knew the number of interviewees vs number of acceptances. Someone said earlier it was about a 10% to be accepted once you get an interview and then someone else said it was like a 30% chance. I'm just curious and I don't have my MSAR with me.

Ya.I'm curious too. I heard Case interviews many and accepts only quite few.

UP
Applications: 4859
Interviews: 930
Matriculants: 156

CCLCM
Applications: 1,150
Interviews: 246
Matriculants: 32

MSTP
Applications: 284
Interviews: 78
Matriculants: 11

I know that doesn't answer your question about how many are admitted, but those numbers generally aren't released by schools. Some do release them, but I don't think Case does. A good guideline I used when applying was that schools generally admit two to three times the number of matriculants. So if you figure Case admitted 350 to get a class size of 156 in the UP, that's a better than 33% chance of admission if you're interviewed.

Now, with that said, don't be worried if you interview early and aren't admitted right away. They'll give you more details on interview day, but Case admits a very small percentage of the class right up front. So don't fret if you aren't admitted at the earliest possible moment, it doesn't mean you've been rejected!

EDIT: NB, I can only comment on the UP admissions process. I did not apply to CCLCM or MSTP. So keep that in mind.

thanks a lot for the info! that was very helpful

Hey guys,

I know it's early, but I was wondering if anyone heard of the Glidden house? would it be a good place to stay over night before the interview?

yeah, it is a hotel on campus. it seems like it would be mad convenient, it is just that the prices are kinda high.

congrats to everyone who got an invite!

question: when were you guys complete?

interview invite!!! i am so excited!

Glidden House is ultra close, yeah. The convenience of being able to walk to your interview is really a nice thing to have on interview day, rather than having to depend on a cab or mass transit. Make sure to tell them when making your reservation that you're here for Case - they might have a discount (I haven't stayed there, have no idea).

If Glidden House doesn't work, the Intercontinental Suites on Euclid (not the Suites Hotel that's on Carnegie) is fairly close - 15-20 minute walk, 5 minute bus ride, and they also have a complementary hotel van which will drop you off @ Case if you ask them the night before. Make sure to tell them you're a Case student as well, because otherwise it'll be super expensive. You have to call the local hotel to get the discounted rate (I think it's about $139/night).

Try calling the admissions office as well - I think they'll be organizing student hosts if that's also an option for you. Lots of people spoke highly of staying with a student host. I did whenever I could on the interview trail, and I really found it to be valuable. Got a much more uncensored view of the school than you might get on interview day.

Congrats to all the new interviewees!

has anyone with an interview gotten an email confirmation after scheduling the date? i can't find anywhere on the status page or anything that has the date i picked...

Congrats to all who got invites!

OMSTR, it is $167 total for visiting students. I am sure there are hotels that are cheaper, but don't you think we would spend $$ difference for a cab?

you are an information stud, stow! 🙂 much appreciated

2014MD, the cab ride from a cheaper hotel would definitely drive the cost up, you are right. i dunno, my airfare is cheaper than the cost for glidden, so I think I'm gonna do a little searching. A student host is my number one option, but we will see. I will let you know if I find a cheaper/not too inconvenient hotel though.

and i was complete 7/17, i think

naw, i haven't gotten any confirmation either. I wouldn't worry about it, we should get it soon.

Thanks st0w and pitt

Alternatively, you could stay with a student host, though I'm not sure the list for this year has been tabulated yet. It's a great way to get advanced intel on the school.👍

did u apply to both the college and university programs?
To reiterate: NO invites for CCLCM have gone out yet, and none will go out for another month or so.

I have the visitor's guide, but CCLCMer says I won't have any invites anytime soon because I applied to both programs. My guess is that everybody has it.
I don't know anything about the visitor's guide, but you will definitely not hear about your invites for a while. I talked to Dean Franco on Thursday, and she confirmed that she is still screening the apps received so far. She had to go out of town for a while, and Susan (our admissions secretary) is leaving, so they are kind of behind with screening apps right now.

I've read different things on this thread, but I was wondering if anyone knew the number of interviewees vs number of acceptances. Besides the info st0w quoted, here are the specifics for the current second year CCLCM class from our webpage, including number accepted:

Class of 2013 Admission Summary
Applications: 1423
Interviews: 267
Accepted: 72
Matriculated: 32

I'm guessing that fewer than 72 were accepted for the current first year class (c/o 2014). They're working on updating the webpage, so hopefully the most current stats will be up soon.

You're talking about the Intercontinental Suites hotel. The one on Carnegie is just called the Intercontinental Hotel, no suites. (I know, very confusing.)

For those of you interviewing for either program (or both), you should call the Intercontinental SUITES hotel, not the regular Intercontinental hotel. When you make your reservation, try giving them the code word "Lerner," and spell it out for them. (Yes, otherwise they do try to put an A in there and then they tell you they can't find the code. :meanie:) I don't know how much they're charging now, but I think it was like $79 when I applied. That's only if you got them to put in the code correctly, and that's also assuming they still use that code. It's worth a try though!

There's also a third hotel at CCF called the Guesthouse, also located on Euclid Ave. That one is cheaper than either of the Intercontinentals. Some of my patients' families from out of town stay there during the patient's hospitalization. It is a little closer to Case than the Intercontinental Suites is. I've never stayed there, so I can't tell you how cheap it is or if they offer shuttle service.

Try calling the admissions office as well - I think they'll be organizing student hosts if that's also an option for you. Lots of people spoke highly of staying with a student host. I did whenever I could on the interview trail, and I really found it to be valuable. Got a much more uncensored view of the school than you might get on interview day.
I'm a huge fan of staying with student hosts as well. I stayed with student hosts and hosted students my first year, and it was a good experience.

One piece of advice: contact hosts from the middle or bottom of the list instead of starting at the top. A lot of times the As get tons of requests for hosting, while the Zs get none.

Congrats to all the new interviewees!
Likewise! Hope everyone has a good time on your interviews, although I hope I won't run into any of you since I'll be rotating in the ED in September. 😉

Sorry I have to repeat my post. Since it was not answered, and it's important to me I will have to post it again.😀

the interview guide Case sent out says the day concludes at 4 pm. Anyone knows if it's possible to leave at 3 or 3:30 pm to catch a flight?

I wonder at what time the actual interviews are.

i would err on the side of caution and book a later flight. sometimes interviews last longer than expected, or get pushed back. also, if the interview guide says the day ends at 4....then mostly likely the day will end at 4....

I don't understand why this is so important. Just schedule a later flight.

I tend to agree with the previous answers to this question. I know that there may be limited flights back to where ever you are flying home to, but taking a later flight or even staying an extra night is better than missing your flight or leaving the interview day early (which I seriously hope you would not do).

Email the admissions office. You'd be surprised how far backwards we at Case can bend.👍

For the research essay, is it better to go in depth with 1 research experience or is it OK to do 2 (but still fitting it to the char limit).

Also, if people that applied to Case + CCLCM have to wait longer till they get reviewed...doesn't that mean we have a poorer chance of getting into Case by itself since we're later than the ones that applied only to Case?

Thanks!

Hi everyone! Wow...I can't believe the interview season is about to start again 🙂 I'm a current first year at CCLCM and I was also accepted at the UP program, and I have some time to kill here in lab (on a weekend, blah), so if you have any questions or are curious about anything, shoot them my way. I'm not an expert like CCLCMer by any means, so I don't have any admissions stats info or anything, but I can comment on how the first few weeks have been so far, in terms of school and moving here and such 😀

I have the same concern. I'm also a Canadian Hopeful! I don't believe I'm competitive for CCLCM but I applied anyways because I REALLY liked the program and I have a master's (with research experience before and after) and figured they value that. Is this going to negatively affect my chances at Case? I was complete 07/29 and I also see this visitor's guide which says:

"We would like share with you a few common questions and answers that we hope you will find helpful in preparations for your Interview Day:"

this "your interview day" part is very encouraging.. i hope it's not for nothing. why would they raise our hopes with this document if they have no interest in inviting us for an interview? that would torture!!

i think it was previously established that everyone has that link to the visitor's guide on their status page. sorry to burst your bubble. good luck, however!

You're not getting an answer because you're asking the wrong people. If you have to leave by 3 or 3:30, call the Case admissions office and ask them if you can leave at 3 or 3:30.

You should write about whatever you think will be the most appropriate. There's no rule that the essay is only limited to one research project.

I don't think so. I interviewed in late January and was accepted to both programs at the beginning of February. However late you're going to interview is probably a lot sooner than I did!

Your input is always appreciated. 👍

What are you so busy doing in the lab on a Sunday?

Just visited a friend in Cleveland today...got to see Cleveland clinic and University hospitals...I must say I was very impressed with CC, I really love their campus...and UH was good too, a lot of construction that looked veryyyy impressive...Would LOVE to get an interview here :xf:

Sorry bud. Like I said in the other thread though, you don't have much to worry about in general.

Also, please excuse my stupidity, but where exactly is the status section being updated? I just have the parts on the bottom which are checklists for being complete.
