Do any of you have any recommendations on who to stay with from the student host list? I'll be in the chat room too for a little while.

I signed up to be a tour guide. Can't wait! 😀
I'm a substitute tour guide and student interviewer. Meaning, if someone backs out or no-shows at the last minute, the panic-stricken admissions office will page me to see if I can come do it. It happened every couple of weeks or so all of last year. 😛

Maybe you should give ME a tour. I get lost every time I try to find my way around the Case med school buildings. It's like a maze, and that's saying a lot coming from someone who spends a lot of time navigating the back corridors and secret stairwells of CCF! Also, your student lounge is way nicer than ours is, just so you know. I especially like that little porchy thing on the side of the lounge that people use as a study room. If I could ever find my way back to it, I might go study there myself while I'm rotating there. 😳

Start at the bottom of the list and email or call people. Everyone on the list had to volunteer to be on it, so you can contact any of them.

Fourth floor on the east side, past all the society rooms. Essentially, exit the elevator on the fourth floor. Turn left into the hall. Walk forward through the hall on the left until you can walk no more. Turn right.👍

It extends up to the fifth and sixth floors, but I haven't actually tried it, so I can't give you reliable directions.

As to CCF, I've never been inside, but it looks rather labyrinthine.:scared:

Just don't walk down the ramps too fast while
giving tours! :meanie:

I'll probably do it backwards, trip over an immobile object, do an amazing 540, and break both ankles.👍

Then they'd have to put you on bypass!

...when dialysis just won't cut it anymore. 🙁

I would think they'd just give me a kidney transplant, but, man... bypass... that's a frightening thought. :O

I bet they'd suggest a radical prostatectomy.

I don't know about the staff, but that Myuu and her finger wagging sure does get my blood pumping.

Remind me to stand behind a Kimura Kaela cardboard cutout at all times... 😏

I regret having to get back on topic, but for those of you who got rejected from UP, how exactly did they tell you? Is there like "rejected" listed under the University Correspondence header? I know you said via status update, but I mean more specifically. Cause I haven't heard back and just want to make sure I'm not checking the wrong place.

Hey Myuu,

I remember that you had mentioned that some of the Case Western folks were running the akron marathon. I'm trying to pick out student hosts and was wondering if any of them were doing the marathon....would you happen to know?

Thanks,

Yes. With a link to the rejection letter.

Invites to UP and CCLCM last evening by email! =D

For those wondering complete 8/3. The iapply website had the status for both UP and CCLCM under the University Track. I am thinking this is only if you get both interviews because you need to call UP first and then CCLCM to schedule.

Good Luck Everyone! :luck::xf:

Congrats. I was complete 8/3 so hopefully I'm next in line :xf:

Right, but getting to the right building in the first place is the problem. I always go in at the front entrance where the guards sit, under the clock. Then I have to swipe through the door to the right and wander around for a while until I figure out how to get to the right building. Is there any sense at all to the letters they all have? If there is, I don't get it. 😳

CCF isn't just labyrinthine, it's like an entire city. They even have their own police force (third largest police force in Cuyahoga County). After spending over three years here, I still get lost sometimes (the new heart center, anyone?). There is always construction and remodeling going on somewhere in the hospital, and I have gotten stuck in stairwells or floor units a few times when I tried to go through a shortcut that is suddenly blocked off without warning. I have also come in on a Monday to find that the hallway that used to be there the previous Friday is now replaced with a wall. Or that a new door has suddenly appeared where a wall used to be. Life is never dull when you're trying to catch up with your team, that's for sure!

You aren't the only :ninja: on this board.

Clearly, this thread has deteriorated as the school year has picked up.
Ha, I was thinking that this thread was just starting to get interesting!

Hey, iceman, are you a third year? I think you must be since you said you're on research now (unless you're doing research before you start second year?). Did you do one of the new core blocks yet? How was it? I was in the last group doing the old cores.

No, I was the one who said that. Some of the CCLCM second years are doing it.

Congrats! Hope to see you here. 🙂

Sounds like you were in the BRB (which is really close to, but not, the med school)! Or coming in through the parking garage. 😕

Go to the building behind the BRB (i.e. exit through the cafeteria). Warning: it is constructed in exactly the same style as the nursing and dental schools. The medschool, however, is housed in the same building as the health services library and thus is recognizable for it's L-shape (and the window lounges). Otherwise, it's relatively indistinguishable... I think the E/W designation is roughly east/west, but I haven't actually verified that... I could do that tomorrow, actually...

Definitely not a parking garage. (There's a parking garage attached to the med school? Or do you mean the one next to Rainbow Babies?) I always come in the front entrance where the clock is. There is a long walkway with benches that comes from Adelbert and ends at the doors right underneath the clock. Just outside of this entrance, there is a set of stairs that leads up to the library on the right, and some other building whose purpose I don't know on the left. For a while, there was a bunch of construction going on and they blocked off this walkway (story of my life :meanie:), but the last time I was over there it was open again.

BRB sounds familiar, but I don't know where the cafeteria is that you're talking about. I think I'd better just print out the standardized patient instructions. They got me there the last time. I just can't remember HOW they got me there any more.

Yeah, that one - it's not directly attached to the med school, but it's super close. There's about a fifteen foot pathway between the two.

Just outside of this entrance, there is a set of stairs that leads up to the library on the right, and some other building whose purpose I don't know on the left.

So, you should go up those stairs instead of going inside the building with the security guard. At the top of the stairs, make a right and go into the building with the library in it (the BRB with the cafeteria is the building directly in front of you at the top of the stairs). But once you go in that building, instead of turning left to enter the library, turn right to go through the wooden double doors (keycard or tailgating required) and you're there.

Oh, and the rooms that begin with 'T' are in the Sears 'T'ower building. That's the tall building with the window lounge.

There's actually a parking lot directly underneath the med school, accessible from the elevators. Ridiculously expensive parking pass there though, ($100+/month)

Oh yeah. You'd think I'd remember that one, seeing as I've gone through it to go to school several times (albeit not recently).

Oh Cleveland, you're so cheap. $250-300 is average for a parking spot in NY. Prime spots are even more.

I do believe that's lot 53.👍

8/6, so hopefully going to get some correspondence soon! Getting excited 🙂

Good luck to you! (and to everyone else applying as well). I can't believe interview season is already starting up again.

I've been complete since 7/27, so I guess they're just not sure what to think of me. Better than rejection I suppose.

Like I was saying earlier, completion time is not correlated with invite timing.:luck:

Thanks for the clarification Myuu. Even though the attractive/spastic lady in your avatar is not you, you still hold a special place in my heart. :biglove:

😀

I love that dancing biglove guy.

I just finished my reservation for my flight and hotel..

It costed me $530US for two nights stay @ intercontinental suite.. (Edit: $530 for 2 nights stay + round-trip flight)

Is this reasonable price if I'm flying from far west?

gosh.. this whole process is so expensive

oh well, nothing you can do about it...

Do they not offer the Case interview rates at the hotels anymore? When I interviewed, if you told them you were interviewing at Case/CCLCM when you were making a reservation, it was only like $80/night at the Intercontinental Conference Hotel (ie the nicer one).

It is with the special rate..

Intercontinental Suite = 109/night
Intercontinental Conference Hotel = 119/night

omg that must be direct flight though

well it's direct going there, not direct coming back.

and i only would have saved about $30 by not taking the direct flight.

it's like if someone offered me $30 to fly an extra 2 hours or so, sit in an airport for another hour, and have a chance that i might miss the connection.

no thanks, i'll take the direct flight every time. 🙂

Where is the list of student hosts? I've seen it mentioned several times in this thread but can't find it anywhere on the Case website. I signed up for my interview already (11/17) and would definitely like someone to stay with.
