Anybody ever eaten white eggplant? I used to have a garden with unusual colored vegetables (you know red carrots, purple potatoes, black tomatoes, orange cauliflower, etc). There is a really cool group out there trying to promote saving our genetic vegetable heritage by planting rare and heirloom varieties of vegetables, some of which do not have 'standard' colors but are natural genetic variants. The do a survey every once in a while of all varieties that can be bought by the home gardeners too, which is really neat in a dorky way...

If I use the British word 'aubergine' instead at the interview, will you understand Myuu?!

Whereas, CCLCM and CWRU are 9 letters, not a word, and not one but two acronyms. Plus they contain was less cholesterol.
Plus they taste better.

I was actually referring more to the fact that Mayo is one of CCF's major competitors. 😉

Cool, I'm on research block over at LRI so if I'm free, I'll be there. Are you thinking Table 45 happy hour or something else?
I hope you can come. It will be fun. Myuu, you should come too.

Table 45 was my most likely plan, although I hadn't decided for sure. The problem is that the happy hour doesn't start until around 5 or 5:30. But I was thinking that it might be a good plan anyway, because it would give the interviewees time to change out of their suits. (Although, I have to admit that I love seeing people all dressed in matching suits on parade. It's like wearing a glaring sign that shouts out across the room, "Hey, everyone, look at me! I'm on an interview!") Plus, vc7777 is going to be the one and only applicant I have ever met who keeps the minority session going for a full hour, so the extra hour will probably come in handy. :meanie:

Ok, vc7777 and everyone else, synchronize planners. I am changing our meeting time to 5 PM instead of 4 PM, and the meeting place to Table 45 (bottom floor of the Intercontinental Hotel, NOT the Intercontinental Suites Hotel) instead of the CCLCM admissions office. This post will self-destruct in 5-4-3-2-1....
CCLCM has been markedly vague about where we are going. Perhaps she has a secret destination in mind? Per CCLCMer instruction, I have pencil-ed into my planner "4:00 to 4:30: Be Spontaneous".
Strong work with the planner. I shall do the same. 👍

Anybody ever eaten white eggplant?
Not knowingly.

I'm a fan of Indian eggplants. They're purple, but they're smaller than the American variety. The American eggplants are a lot better if you want to stuff them, though.

How is the interview at case? is it really conversational? and pretty chill

With the caveat that I interviewed four years ago, my Case interviews for both programs were all really chill. The people in both admissions offices are super nice and go out of their way to make the interviewees comfortable. I think you will have a good time.

After looking at some people's MDApps I somehow feel as if I don't belong here lol :scared: you guys have really good stats and ECs

You wouldn't have gotten the invite if you didn't deserve it, so don't sell yourself short. I seem to remember you were one of the people who is interviewing here on the 12th, right? Are you going to come for happy hour with us? (Say yes! Say yes!)

No. Eggplants are made to be eaten, not just to be talked about on late nite SDN. :nono:

I hope you're proud of yourself. By not having ever eaten eggplant, you have disappointed me, everyone else on this thread, your mother, and the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. Eat an eggplant now and all will be forgiven. Eat that eggplant with raw garlic, and you'll be chock-full of antioxidants. Of course, none of us will want to be around you. 😱

By the way, "Mayo" is a four-letter word. :meanie:

I don't think I have ever had the opportunity to eat eggplant. I don't feel like it is very popular in AZ maybe...I would like to take this time to apologize to all the people I have disappointed.

I was actually referring more to the fact that Mayo is one of CCF's major competitors. 😉
Understood. Nothing like a dry joke. I guess I'll stick to traditional humor.

Strong work with the planner. I shall do the same. 👍
It's the dry humor again....sorry...it doesn't come across right over the intranets...My old boss used his planner to schedule just about everything. I used to sneak into his office and randomly open it up and write into his schedule with very precise start and stop times: 'Be spontaneous'...I don't think he ever knew it was me...

Eggplant is good. We must find someplace with eggplant to eat...

Sounds like fun 🙂

No, your irony was understood and even appreciated. I meant that you even inspired me to plan my spontaneity too. 😛

I spent like a half hour reading your blog the other day CCLCMer. 👍
I SWEAR I'm going to update it as soon as I figure out how to make my new ipod do what I want it to, which means it may take me another month. 🙁

Did everyone who applied to CCLCM get the letter stating, "We welcome your interest in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. Established..." and a brochure. Mine was dated almost a month ago, and I still don't have an interview invite, so I'm guessing it doesn't mean anything.

Dude my interview at the CCLCM was the most chill interview ever. After the interview, I actually went and played Guitar Hero with the medical students.

Did you say this was the afternoon/evening of the 12th? If so, I have class from 2:45 to 6:00PM.

Histology is serious business.

(Back to work. :Cry🙂

Glad you had fun, and also glad that you didn't make a liar out of me.

What is the link to your blog CCLCMer?
It's in my signature. Or, just google CCLCM and you'll find it. (I'm not trying to be difficult. I don't remember the URL. 😳)

So come afterward. You know how these things work. If I say that everyone should be there at 5, they'll all be there at 5:30 or 6. So I'm sure we'll still be there after your class ends.

On a bit of a tangent, wow, that is one long histo class. I don't know how you do it. 😱

Select the best answer from the following options:
A. Dedication
B. Masochism
C. Love
D. A+B
E. A+C
F. B+C
G. All of the above.
H. None of the above.

(Actually, the MS histo (which is what that is) is taught really, really well and is very engaging.👍)

ok so first i am nervous about case knowing my internet persona... i don't think i have said anything bad, but who knows!?!?

second will my student hosts hate me if i get dinner with you guys???

Wow, this is worse than a Step 2 practice question, except that I didn't have to read a page-long description of how you have a cat that likes to eat eggplants and chase paper balls around the room first. 🙄

Clearly the correct answer is H, because the only reason why someone would take that class or get that MS is because of a delusional disorder where they're convinced that a knowledge of histology is useful for anything, and that learning about histology is actually fun. It's delusional and not psychotic because the content of these beliefs is possible, although not very likely.

I kid! I kid! Well, mostly....histo really was my least favorite subject in med school. Do you think it means anything that the only normal cells I can reliably identify are adipocytes?

I know. Bwahahaha.

You've already told us when you'll be here, so now you can't actually be anonymous at CCLCM. There are only like half a dozen of you guys interviewing that day. But if it would make you feel better, the rest of us can pretend we don't know you. 😉

second will my student hosts hate me if i get dinner with you guys???
Probably, but PM me their names, and I'll go rough them up for you. :meanie:

Seriously, buffywannabe, it's completely up to you. If you want to come with us, go for it. Feel free to invite your hosts to come too. If you want to steer clear of us (and I can't say that I entirely blame you if you do 😛), that's cool too. This is supposed to be fun, not stressful. I know we joke around a lot on this thread, but the goal isn't to make you feel uncomfortable or obligated to hang out with us. It's completely optional. You won't hurt anyone's feelings if you decide to bail....ok, well, maybe a little bit. :d

For everyone who does come, I promise we won't keep you up late since I think you're all interviewing again at Case on Tuesday. I do not want to face the wrath of Dr. Mehta if you all oversleep and miss your interviews. :scared:

This saddens me. I live in the Cleveland area, and interviewed at Case this past week, so I thought this might be a fun opportunity to meet some more people applying to and attending Case and CCLCM, but I'm going to be out of town on the 12th. +pity+

Anywho, I hope you all have a terrific time and I wish you the best of luck, and I hope the weather is more agreeable on your interview day than it was on ours 😉

I'm sorry if I seem insensitive, but I couldn't help thinking that maybe you should change your username to Missingtheparty.

If we set up any future meet-ups, you should consider yourself invited. 🙂

Well I appreciate the open invitation 🙂

I made it into Cleveland this evening. It seems nice so far (I just hope it isn't still raining tomorrow morning). My hotel is directly across from Cleveland Clinic (I can see if from my room and I am "borrowing" their internet).

I hope I meet some SDNers tomorrow at the interview.

Are you interviewing at CCLCM or the UP tomorrow? Either way, good luck! As for the rain, I checked weather.com and it is not supposed to rain tomorrow. If it does rain, we will know that someone did not follow Myuu's instructions to make their eggplant necklace. 😡

I'm at the UP (I didn't feel I had the research experience to apply to CCLCM). It just so happens that priceline.com found me a hotel right by the Cleveland Clinic, but priceline booked me for a room with 2 queen beds. I told them I was traveling alone! Whatever, I jumped back and forth between the beds like a little kid to make it worth my while.

I also checked weather.com, and I hope they are correct. I tried to make the eggplant necklace, but it was a miserable failure. Anyways, I'll take the rain here over the 90+ degrees hot it is back in AZ.

Not raining anymore! I'd stop in and say hi, but today I am a bit busy.

the people at the admissions office are very nice. A+ for them!

Is CCLCM non-rolling? i am thinking about scheduling it so that I could combine it with my OSU trip, but my OSU interview is kinda late (end of nov). good idea or bad idea?

It's semi-rolling. Search this thread for the word semi-rolling if you want to read the whole long explanation of how it works.

Thanks a lot CCLCMer... for everyone's curiosity, here is the semi-rolling post from CCLCMer:

"A lot of med schools are rolling, meaning they accept students every few weeks all interview season long. The UP does this. There are also some schools that are nonrolling, like Penn, where they only accept people on one date in the spring (usually in March). CCLCM used to be rolling, but we went to semi-rolling admissions last year. Semi-rolling is kind of a hybrid between rolling and nonrolling. It means that instead of accepting people all year long, there are only three dates during interview season when acceptances will be given out. These acceptances get decided at special adcomm meetings called subcommittee meetings.

So, the early bird people who get reviewed on Oct. 15 won't hear anything for a while after that until the adcomm has their first subcommittee meeting. There are three subcommittee meetings, and the first one is in December. (I think it's on the 15th.) During the subcommittee meeting, the adcomm re-reviews all of the students who have interviewed up to that point, and the students who will be offered an acceptance are chosen. So if you interview at CCLCM in the fall, the earliest you can be accepted is in late December. It will be a nice Christmas present. 🙂

Those of you who interview after December shouldn't worry. The reason why the adcomm has three subcommittee meetings is to make sure that everyone has a chance to interview for an open seat. Usually about 9-11 students will be offered an acceptance after each subcommittee meeting, so that works out to filling approximately 1/3 of the class. Once all three meetings are over and all seats given out (around the end of February), then no more acceptances will be given until people start dropping their seats.

The reason why we have this whole weird semi-rolling thing is because we can't overaccept like most med schools do. In other words, medical schools know from previous years that if they have, say, 100 seats, they can accept maybe 150 students because 50 of them will withdraw and go somewhere else. But since CCLCM has so few seats, we can't take the risk of overaccepting. So only a very few acceptances will go out before the spring, maybe 10 or so in December and another 10 in late January."

So I guess that's good news for me. How sure are you of the dates of the three committee meetings? The first one is definitely in December? Also, is it possible to interview ONLY at CCLCM? I've already interviewed at a couple schools that are higher on my list than CWRU, so if I were to be accepted by one of them, I might forgo the UP interview. However, the full-tuition scholarship at the college program is just mouthwatering and I would def like to give that interview a shot. is this possible? (No offense to the UP though. It's pretty darn awesome- it's just not at the top of my list 🙂 )

You get an email instructing you to check your iapply account. Inside gem lies waiting if you are lucky.

Ah yes, hopefully we all get the purple gem:

Thanks for finding that and reposting it. I had to go get my laundry. To answer your questions:

I am very sure of the dates. They are December 15, January 26, and February 16.

Yes, it is possible to only interview at CCLCM, although if you got both invites and are spending the time and money to come to Cleveland anyway, I don't see why you'd decline the UP invite.

well RT flights from PHL are at and have been at a minimum $522 (with connections for a month or longer now, ive bing tracked this). so i will be driving in from philly.

however i have CCLCM monday and CWRU on tuesday, so i can take all sunday. I'm just trying to plan where to stay at a hotel. If I dont have to spend $200 on intercontinental, I'm going to try to avoid it and just drive in the morning to my interviews from the hotel (i have a nice coupon/gift card on expedia that only works on 2 night stays and this is perfect).

the choices i have narrowed down is the downtown area, near the hospitals, and the "independence" area

btw are the neighborhoods in cleveland named after nyc spots?
