well RT flights from PHL are at and have been at a minimum $522 (with connections for a month or longer now, ive bing tracked this). so i will be driving in from philly.

however i have CCLCM monday and CWRU on tuesday, so i can take all sunday. I'm just trying to plan where to stay at a hotel. If I dont have to spend $200 on intercontinental, I'm going to try to avoid it and just drive in the morning to my interviews from the hotel (i have a nice coupon/gift card on expedia that only works on 2 night stays and this is perfect).

the choices i have narrowed down is the downtown area, near the hospitals, and the "independence" area

btw are the neighborhoods in cleveland named after nyc spots?

I would go for the downtown area, other things being equal. Coming in from independence, you'd likely be taking the highway, and they can just get really congested during rush hour, and even a bit before.

thanks man! downtown it is. any suggestions on what to do at night? i hope cclcm interviewees are chill and we get to hang out or somethin before cwru

So, I did mention eggplant at three separate groupings of applicant with no apparent success. So far, of the four days operation eggplant has been active, I have had success all of once.

Get it together, guys.:boom:

I just realized that I misread your post. I took "downtown area" and "near the hospitals" to be the same location, when I think you intended them to be different. Either should be fine, but "near the hospitals" is obviously closer to where you want to end up.

That said, I would try and not stay in a hotel that is "near the hospitals" but in east cleveland.

Downtown is where Metro is. The hospitals being referred to here are, I think, CCF and UHCMC🙂thumbup🙂, which are around the university circle-fairfax area.

I'd just like to point out that I was part of the sole success 😎

I've managed to meet one SDNer so far even though I've never said eggplant. But to be fair, I got advance warning telling me to show up that day, so it's not as impressive as your success is. 😉

I was thinking that I would kind of stand out regardless, since I would probably be the only fourth year in a room full of first years.

Haha, yeah whatever gem=acceptance is fine with me we should definitely have an eggplant emoticon on this forum
Oh, I agree completely. 👍

Don't worry Myuu, I'll be there on the 19th and I promise to introduce myself if I hear of the ever elusive eggplant. Gosh what if someone not you has a reason to say eggplant that day, that could get awkward :scared:

Yep. I realized a few moments ago that my brain decided to group "dowtown" and "the hospitals" as one location, when it was in fact being referred to as 2.

If it's not too late, I would go with the Hospitals location, as it is closest. That said, a downtown location may be as close as 10-15 minutes away from the two schools.

I apologize for the communication mixup. My brain's been on the fritz lately.
🙁

CCLCM was awesome today! Idk if I met anyone from this thread (it didn't seem like it b/c eggplant was never mentioned), but I thoroughly enjoyed the school and the hospital (amazing facility).

BTW, I saw a tub of baba ganoush in the cafeteria and thought about taking a picture to post here. I figured it'd look creepy to get my cell phone camera out in the middle of the cafeteria and take a picture of a food item...

I can't believe the eggplant still lives and has started to take on different lives and variants of life on its own. You guys are awesome.

Metro is technically more south of downtown, but the general idea still holds.. 😏

Finally back home after my interview at Case today. It was a great experience, and I was surprised that Case far exceeded even my high expectations of the school. The students and faculty were all awesome. On top of that, the weather couldn't possibly have been any better (no rain!). I was kind of saddened to not hear or even see any eggplants 🙁.

Glad you liked it. I have day shifts this week, so there was no operation eggplantation in effect at CCLCM today.

You should have totally done that. We would have all loved it. 🤣

Glad you had a good experience too. You definitely picked the right day, because it's supposed to rain again tomorrow. 🙄

how safe is the metro to get to case?
As long as you're not going in the middle of the night, it should be fine. Remember, bring exact change ($2.25), or they'll keep your extra 75 cents. Good luck!

I know. Bwahahaha.
You've already told us when you'll be here, so now you can't actually be anonymous at CCLCM. There are only like half a dozen of you guys interviewing that day. But if it would make you feel better, the rest of us can pretend we don't know you. 😉

Probably, but PM me their names, and I'll go rough them up for you. :meanie:

Seriously, buffywannabe, it's completely up to you. If you want to come with us, go for it. Feel free to invite your hosts to come too. If you want to steer clear of us (and I can't say that I entirely blame you if you do 😛), that's cool too. This is supposed to be fun, not stressful. I know we joke around a lot on this thread, but the goal isn't to make you feel uncomfortable or obligated to hang out with us. It's completely optional. You won't hurt anyone's feelings if you decide to bail....ok, well, maybe a little bit. :d

No I do want to come, I am probably already rejected anyway since they know who I am so I guess who cares! It will be cool though to see who people are. I always think of people as their avatars. Which is strange if others think this too because they will be looking for me as a cat

Thanks for the replies! So the station by the university is pretty safe then? I ask this because I would probably be waiting for my host to pick me up from there.

Yeah, the University Circle station is fine. Shouldn't be a problem to wait for your host there.

I hope this thread doesn't lose momentum! I'm interviewing in December, and I'm afraid I'm going to show up all like
i-has-a-eggplant.jpg

and you guys are going to be all 😕:wtf:

Hmm. I guess I just look invisible to you then? Or, like a screen colored SDN-blue?

As long as you're coming at a reasonable hour, it will be fine. I have never had a problem there.

It's not every day that you go to look at a school thread and find a picture like that. This thread provides some brief entertainment every day.
👍

Ha...Glad I can do my part to resolve the Mayo-Case Thread superiority gap...I think this puts us within 120 posts of them...I briefly looked at there thread (rejected there loooooonnnggg ago so I can't hang out there too long, it's the law, you know) and they don't even have pictures of vegetables on there 😕?! In fact, I don't see even random pictures of ANYTHING on their thread...weird, huh?

Well, I can't wait to get over my sore throat in time for my interview....daughter #1 and wife were positive for strep throat last week...uh-oh...😱

cough...cough...hack...hack hack hack...

Ha, I've been seeing my share of pus-covered tonsils in the ED all week, and my turn may be coming soon because my throat feels a little sore now, too. Of course, I'll be in the ED again tomorrow, which does make things convenient for getting myself swabbed PRN. 😀

Edit: I just took a look down the old gullet using my trusty pen light while looking in the mirror. Those are some fine-looking tonsils. No pus.

Don't you enjoy the themed days you can get in the ER? I remember sometime last week being abscess day. For every one abscess, get one FREE!

Oh you number your children?? Never thought of that! so much more convenient than names!

PRN?! I learned me something today! Thanks CCLCMer!

Hmmm...sounds like one of my many failed pickup lines...now I feel under-defined in the tonsil department...Wow, my eyes are not that limber either...

It does seem like diagnoses tend to come in groups. The other thing I've been getting a lot of lately besides sore throats and abdominal pain is psych patients who are off their meds. A lot of people don't like seeing psych patients, so I end up getting more than a random number of them since I don't mind. It's not really that much work to see them, and they're some of the faster dispos (getting them out of the ED). First I talk to them for a while to find out how bad the symptoms are, then I call the social worker and get my attending to pink slip them (commit them to the inpatient psych ward). After that it's just a matter of checking on them every so often to make sure they're ok while we wait for transport.

They aren't kidding when they say that medical jargon is like a language of its own. I've read somewhere that medical students learn an estimated 15,000 new words. Kind of makes you go: :wow:

When you come next week, I will show you my patent-pending technique of viewing your own tonsils. For a small co-pay.

Just so you know, I am also running a low-grade temperature, though not anything to get excited about....yet.

bro i dont interview for a month but let me predict a couple of questions that will come up for you

1. your research
2. how you work in groups
3. your career goals

rest will be up to you/conversational

Hey folks, I'm a little disappointed that there isn't any interview feedback on CCLCM posted for this season yet? 🙁 How unfortunate!
Only a couple dozen people will have interviewed before you do, so it looks like it's all about you taking one for the team, man. Make sure you come back in a week and post your interview feedback to get things started. 😀

I step away for 3 days from this thread and the first thing I see is THIS.

...god, I love this thread, lol

Anyone know how receptive case and cclcm are to in-the-area emails/calls? I'm flying out to Chicago from the east coast, and am hoping to avoid another $200+ flight to Cleveland if possible. Been complete at both since mid-August w/o any status updates (no emails, no "hold" posted on iApply).

we hearing from these guys on the 15th or the 16th? OSU and Case have been running together in my mind since I did them back to back. one said 15th, one said 16th...help me out here, bruthas

this seems neurotic but I MUST KNOW

Both should be sometime on the 15th. OSU voted on us the hour after we left and said they'd post on the 15th, lol Case said we'd receive a status update sometime that day as well. Hope that helps!

OSU told us the first day of interviews to expect something on the 16th. I thought it was strange, but that IS what they told us, not 15th. I wonder if they are playing safe to absolutely make sure that they are in the clear when they send their acceptances? Funny thing too, Cincinnati told us they got in trouble last year, because their system automatically e-mails within minutes of the decision being logged into their system...and they started voting a week or two before the 15th. Oops!

Thanks man. It's crazy to know that my fate is sealed at OSU right now and I don't know what it is.

I have no idea. I never tried doing that.

This seems like the chillest thread on this board haha. 👍
Natch. 😀

I know CCLCM accepts like 30 people or some crazy small number like that, but how many do they interview? and also, what's the acceptance rate? just curious, as mayo's is one of the smallest in the nation (I think because of their small class size) and I was wondering if it would be the same situation for CCLCM
