CCLCM asks some pretty focused questions about group learning and research. The interviews are LONG. I felt like the interviewers really got to know my application and my goals well though. Good luck! 😕

I'm sure she does. Meatball strikethrough in the soccer goalie mid-stream ear bud. 😕

sorry to break the 😕 conversation.
for those who have interviewed at case/cclcm, does the tour involve going outdoors? i ask because the forecast for my interview day predicts snow/rain.

and is it a far walk from adelbert to the case admissions office? or is there a better way to get there?

so psyched!!

My CCLCM tour was 99% indoor. We crossed a street one time, but that was it. It may depend on the tour guide though. If it's raining, your tour guide will probably keep you inside the whole time.

...while serving some eggplant to go with that mayo

I saw today's CCLCM applicants getting lunch at the LRI cafeteria today. Wanted to ask if the soup had eggplant, but decided against it. 😉

I am terribly sorry for bringing this thread back on topic, but I'll be interviewing with CCLCM and the UP next week on Mon/Tue. 🙂

For CCLCM, there are apparently 3 interviews, 2 with faculty and 1 with a student. It is mentioned that the student will not have access to my file - does that actually mean nothing at all, or just AMCAS? I assume the faculty will have every part of my application, including the AMCAS, secondary, and LoRs. As for the UP, how much information will my interviewers have?

The visitors' guide recommends the RTA Red Line for getting to campus from the airport. Is it also the easiest way for the return journey? Are there particular intricacies that I should be aware of?

I am super excited and I hope I get to see you all!

I received this on status page:

The Admissions Committee of the University Program of the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine has reviewed your application and is pleased to offer you an interview.

But, I applied to CCLCM ("College Track" not "university Track" according to website). Does this mean CCLCM rejected me, but Case still wants to interview me? Or, could I still recieve an invitation to the "college track?" I'm really confused! For any CCLCM interviewees, what did your status page say?

Frankly, it is a little annoying that this thread is no longer serving it's purpose. After all, it's called Case Western Reserve University application thread, not "let's all talk about random crap and eggplants" thread. I'm probably just going to unsubscribe, it's useless.

whoa.. quite nervous about that interview 😕
I'm sure you did fine. Good luck. :luck:

For CCLCM at least, it is completely tour guide-dependent. If the weather is bad, you won't be going outside. That's what skyways are for. 🙂

The med school is right off Adelbert. I'm not sure which direction you're coming from, but basically, look for the building with the clock tower, go in there, and ask the security guards to let you in. Good luck!

We missed you this evening. 🙁

The student will have no access at all to any part of your app prior to the interview. Some student interviewers are also student adcomms, and they will read your entire app subsequently (both AMCAS and secondary). Others who are not adcomms will never see it.

Yes, it's the easiest way. We gave some more specific instructions a few pages back.

do we get good food at le interview?
At CCLCM, you get a voucher for $7 to use at the cafeteria.

It sounds to me like you must have applied to both programs, so congrats on your UP invite. 🙂

CCLCM doesn't use the Case Iapply system, so nothing from CCLCM will ever appear on your status page. If you get a CCLCM invite, you will receive it by email. If you have not heard anything from CCLCM specifically, it means that no decision has been made on your app yet.

Come on, man, don't be a spoilsport. People are just letting off steam a little and having some fun. But we're happy to answer real questions too when people post any, like they did today. So if you have anything application-related that you want to discuss, go for it.

I think it's nice to have a place on SDN where everyone isn't going nuts over apps. Like CCLCMer said, everyone who knows what they're talking about (CCLCMer, Myuu, others) have been very helpful when people have had app questions, but in between them, it's nice to be able to joke around and have a good time. It's a nice stress reliever.

...wow, I just realized that I called an SDN thread a stress reliever... yeee, lol

omg, i just got an email telling me to check my status and got invited for an interview! (i applied UP, not sure when i was complete but i turned in my secondary early oct.) i'm really pleasantly surprised
😀😀😀😀😀

Interesting. Actually, I was notified in 1 email about both UP and CCLCM. Under my status it currently says:
University Track Correspondence Your interview for the University Program has been confirmed.

The University and College Programs would like to schedule you for an interview.

The first line of the letter that ^ is linked to says:
Thank you for your interest in the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. The Admissions Committee has reviewed your application, and we would like to invite you to interview at both the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine (College Track) and the University Track.

So technically I was notified about both at once...and not about each individually. Perhaps they changed things?

I also got them in a single email. It made more sense to me than sending separate emails, so I never wondered about that.

Hooray, weather.com updated their website and now it shows no rain for my trip.

I'm still bringing my umbrella and jacket just in case.

Can you reach the medical school building by Cornell and come from the back or is Google Maps being dumb? The default for getting to 2109 Adelbert is by walking down Cornell and then going down Cornell Circle. I'll be walking from Glidden House.

I'm going to be interviewing next Monday (19th), anyone else going to be there?

It looks like UP applicants heard back last year on 10/15 or 10/16. Good luck to all the UPers!

Too bad for me I interviewed a little too late to hear back on the 15th/16th. I should hear back sometime around a week to two weeks after that (hopefully with an acceptance!).

Well, the all interviews are indoors, but whether or not the tour is entirely inside depends on your tourguide's knowledge of the more clandestine methods of weather avoidance.😎

Congratulations! 😀

Also, major eggplant win to today's group for strategically asking about the relative eggplant content of last night's dinner.:roflcopter:👍👍

(I haven't gotten a notice that this thread has been updated in 4 days. You guys covered 3 pages in that interval. Not bad!)

HA! Buffywannabe asked me as loud as she could! Excellent win!

Thanks for the tour...awesome time...so busy now that I'm back at work...will post later tonight...

I guess I should clarify that for the people who applied to both programs, there are five possibilities for receiving invites.

1) Both programs have their acts together and invite you at the same time in one email. Only the UP updates by status page. This is probably what happened to the two of you, and it's the way that these things are normally done. However, this year some people did get separate invites because CCLCM was trying to send a bunch out early, and they could not all be coordinated with the UP.

2) Both programs plan to invite you but did not manage to coordinate invites. The UP invites first by both email and change of status page, and CCLCM sends a separate invite later by email. This may have been what happened to Sluggie.

3) Both programs plan to invite you but did not manage to coordinate invites. CCLCM invites first by email only. The UP sends a separate email/status page update later.

4) Only CCLCM plans to invite you. CCLCM will send an email with no status page update. No invite from UP.

5) Only the UP plans to invite you. The UP will send an email and also update your status page. No invite from CCLCM. This is the other possibility for Sluggie. We won't know for sure until a response comes from CCLCM.

$7? they can do better
I completely agree. Make sure you write that on your interview day questionnaire. :meanie:

thanks all! that was really helpful!
case here i come!! 🙂
Good luck!

You can try sending an update if you have something to update them with, but there's probably not any point in sending them an LOI. It sucks to wait, but since it's only been four weeks for you, there isn't much more you can do right now until they send you some kind of answer. If you still haven't heard by mid-November, it might make sense to contact them then to make sure there isn't any problem with your app not being complete.

Don't encourage him. Between him and brooklynblunder, you and I will both have to drop out of med school so that we can answer their questions full-time. 😛

Myuu's ran-out-of-things-to-say-while-taking-your-applicants-on-a-tour strategy: "do you have any questions?"

I'm afraid that was invoked quite a bit yesterday.:laugh::laugh::laugh:

(For which I apologize.)

Was it an inside joke? After I left you, I was asked at least 5 more times?!?

Those were probably legitimate inquiries as to whether or not some uncertainty or doubt was lingering in your mind hoping, perhaps even striving, to be set free.

(We really like answering questions here.👍)

How conversational are the interviews for CCLCM and/or the UP going to be? In particular, I heard rumors about CCLCM making applicants write essays on the spot in previous years - I sure hope they aren't doing anything similar this year. Thanks!

You're lucky you had some applicants who like to talk on your tour. 😀

Very conversational. We don't do stress interviews here.

The interview-day essay writing was tried last year but is no longer being done this year, because the adcomm didn't feel that it helped them evaluate candidates. Instead, you get to watch a couple of videos about the curriculum that were not shown in previous years. But you will still have a student interview, which was another new thing CCLCM started doing last year.

I quickly posted my anonymous feedback (for now, first draft leave comments if you have questions) still at work...can't linger here too long.

Yes. Especially about what they've eaten for dinner.

The UP doesn't do stress interviews either. I know everyone says it, but we really are a fairly relaxed interview day. Sit back and enjoy the ride.😎

Oh, I happened to see UP feedback from someone who interviewed on the 28th who commented on how seeing students running the show in IQ and facilitators mostly waiting in the wings was a negative.

I would just like to point out that that is the entire purpose of IQ. It's self-directed learning under faculty guidance. Yes, you are responsible for finding the material and discussing it with others in a coherent manner, but we're not going to hang you out to dry. That's why the facilitators are there--to nudge you in the right direction as necessary.

At the UP, having a relaxed interview day is not something they just say, it is truly relaxed. I did not feel stressed at all.

As for someone saying the IQ being student run was a negative, I guess they are a prime example of some one who is not the right fit for Case. I thought the IQ seemed like an awesome learning experience and a major selling point for me.

What really impressed me was that Case has been the first school I visited where everyone seemed to look forward to IQ (PBL-type learning). Everywhere else people were mostly like "eh... it's a pain." That was a huge selling-point for me.
