They canceled the plane because of wind, I'm sure if we had snow it'd be the apocalypse. It did hail a couple times which was really confusing.

So do all the interviewers know me as the flaky guy? If thats the case then I guess expectations are low 😀

I know, you guys have the most perfect weather on the planet. Just for the record, you can't come to school here unless you bring your weather to Cleveland with you!

As for the flakiness, I'm just kidding around with you. Everyone knows that sometimes people have transportation issues because of the weather at this time of year, and it's not like you're the only person this has ever happened to. I think it was my second year of med school when I went away for spring break and missed the first two days of class because the airport here was closed due to heavy snow on the day I was supposed to fly back. I thought I was going to be the "flaky" one, but it turned out that half of my PBL group was stranded somewhere out of town just like I was. 😳

For the UP, I was told that I would be invited to apply for merit scholarships when I was accepted a while ago, but I still don't have the application yet. Anyone know when they're going to be sent to us? Thanks!

they said the application will be sent out in March and the decisions on merit scholarships will be made by mid-April

do any current students know what the applications are like? are there essays involved?

Unfortunately, I can't tell you much beyond the fact that it is almost certainly NOT an unplanned acceptance. The third subcommittee meeting didn't take place yet, so you couldn't have been accepted yet if you weren't already accepted after one of the first two subcommittee meetings. My guess is that it was either a mistake or they're sending them to some of the people on high hold. But I will see if I can find out for sure.

I haven't seen my dad in well over 10 years, and I sure as hell won't be able to get his tax information. Am I screwed? Does this mean I wont get ANY aid, or just Case aid?

Thanks for the pep talk. Most of the information on the Case site and Need access speak quite fervently about providing both parents information, even if divorced. I called today but no one answered, I'll have to give them a ring on Monday. I'll let you guys know what happens.

It was just kind of funny because you had posted about the airport being closed on SDN, and then I got the email from Denise saying the exact same thing. And now I'm interviewing you again! Only, this time, the weather is being given official notice that it has no choice but to cooperate fully. 😀

Anyway, I'm glad you were able to reschedule, and brushing up on your research is definitely a good idea. Most people get one faculty interview where they talk about their research a lot.

Names do not come embroidered, but they do have the name tag you mentioned. One of the student groups also offers embroidery at the beginning of the year for I think $10. I passed on the embroidery; I'm not wearing the coat after med school so what's the point.

oh i see- the information brochure i picked up at the admissions office on interview day shows med students with the school of medicine emblem and names embroidered on their coats. i assumed that's just how everyone gets their coats. How cool looking! lol 😛

A lot of people get their coats embroidered, but it's optional. AMSA is the group that sells embroidery for their fundraiser. It's $10 per coat. I wound up having all four of mine done--the embroidery definitely cuts down on your white coats being, ahem, "borrowed" without your knowledge by other students.

Update for those applying for finical aid at Case with Divorced parents:

I just spoke with the finical aid director, they need a "set" of parental information for need access and school grants / loans. I have no contact with my father, but I can use my Mother and Stepfather as my "parents."

However, if my mother was not remarried, I would of had to sent notarized documentation from an outside party (not family) confirming that there is no contact between me and my father.

Hopefully this will help someone with a similar question 😀
