Have they handed out any interview invites lately? Thanks
i'm interviewing this friday. anyone who's still around wanna check out the city night life with me???
Hello,
What do you guys know about Creighton med school? Good/bad/so so? I am from the southwest and am wary about moving to somewhere that seems as far and foreign as Omaha. Is Omaha boring/mundane?
I have an interview this week and almost am ready to cancel it because I just don't feel passionate or excited about the school. Any students or anyone who has something to say about it please let me know it would help a lot!
Thanks!
I feel the same way, if creighton was in cali and i was accepted, id withdraw from every school without quesiton thats how muchi loved it. I went there not expecting much but left relaly impressed and loving the school, the location is a drawback somewhat, but considering I think they do an amazing job at finding a good class and the fact you will be spending much of the time studying i dont find it a big deal. It seems like every class is so close and friendly. If the location was just better this school would be by far my number one choice.I'm from los angeles and I just interviewed there last week. the city life is definitely slower, not as much to do, no sports to follow except the sorry cornhuskers. However, the school is very supportive, welcoming, and tries to make ur stay as enjoyable as possible. the students are all extremely happy there, though.
overall, the school does what it can to make u happy. all i can say is that if creighton were in a bigger city, it'd be my top 3 choice. but i think we all know that omaha will never be an LA, SD, SF.
go to ur interview anyway. u may end up liking it afterall. but if u dont like it then that's fine, at least u have one more option to choose from at the end of this road.
Good advice, GoBeers.
For those that joined this thread late, I'm a current M4 at Creighton, so I've tried to periodically check in and see if there are any lingering questions.
For genomic girl, I would say that a lot of people may not be terribly excited about the magical city of Omaha prior to their interview. Along with that, I would guess that those people probably don't have Creighton high on their list before they get here. What I can say is that a lot of applicants leave here pleasantly surprised -- I definitely was when I interviewed way back in the day. That's the key, if I had never given the school a chance, I really would have done myself a disservice as I couldn't be happier more than 3 years after the fact.
I wasn't excited about Omaha/Creighton at first since I got my interview later (interviewed in Feb) and considered not going, but I'm glad I gave it a chance. With that said, I also went with an open mind and read about the school so that I could get excited. If you don't read anything about the school or 100% don't want to come here and decide you're going to hate it before you even give "us" a chance, then you might not enjoy your visit.
Also, it's important to note that the class you are interviewing for will be the first that has the Phoenix option. If you are dreading leaving the Southwest, maybe you'll find that you can stomach Omaha (which obviously isn't NYC/LA/SF/Chi, but is a lot nicer and more of a city than many anticipate) for 2 years, then you can spend your entire 3rd and 4th years in Phoenix through our new Phoenix option -- something to think about.
Feel free to ask any questions on here or PM me. For anyone interviewing, my semi-obvious tip o' the thread is to make sure you read up on Creighton so that you can answer the simple question of why you're interested. 😉
Any ideas on how you would state the President's name in an essay:
President Reverend John P. Schlegal, S.J.
or President Reverend John P. Schlegal
or Reverend John P. Schlegal, S.J.
or Reverend John P. Schlegal
or President John P. Schlegal, S.J.
or President John P. Schlegal
Haha-- so many choices.
So I interviewed here and thought I'd throw out some statistics about acceptances that I think is important for those care.
- In 2008 Creighton handed out 666 interviews.
- Of those 322 were acceptances were given.
- The entering class this year will be around 160. This increase from
last year is due to the Phoenix option where you do your 3rd and 4th year clinical
rotations at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona.
- I think only 15-25 were taken off the waitlist last year (lowest ever), can't remember for sure.
- If you interviewed before Sep 26, you will find out on Oct 15 if you are accepted.
Good Luck everyone!
For those who are doing secondaries. This school is HUGE on service so do yourself a favor and
talk about your previous service work.
LOL!!!! Are you sure they are a Catholic school 😉![]()
at my interview they said they interviewed an extra person (667) to avoid "the devil's number"
Hey! Does anyone know Creighton's policy on multiple MCAT scores? Do they take the most recent, the highest, or the highest score in each section? Hopefully it is the latter! Thanks and good luck to everyone!!!
Anyone get a call from Garland Jarmon saying decisions will be mailed out October 25 instead of the 15th?

Ugh... I got the call, he left a message. It sounded like he said that 26th! I was really hoping to find out sooner but what can ya do. It seems that this applies only to the group that interviewed this past weekend, correct?

I have no idea but I just wanted to comment that I think I remember your posts on this thread from last cycle. Reapps unite! How's it going so far?
Hey! Yeah I am re-applying! I don't have any interviews yet...but I'm hoping Creighton will at least interview me again this year since they did last year...would be pretty embarrassing! Haha! How's the re-app going for you? Good luck! I hope we both get in this year!!!!![]()
i interviewed in early sept...for us they said it would only take 2-3 weeks but they wouldnt tell us until oct 15th because of the amcas rule...so 2-4 weeks seems reasonable but im not sure if that will apply to you guys as you are interviewing later then I.interview invite today 10/12! complete 7/14. interview date 11/21. I was getting worried there for a few weeks with no news, besides rejections. Does anyone know how long after the interview Creighton makes final decisions?
Invite today, C: 7/23 I: 12/5
Anyone know how much financial aid/scholarship opportunity Creighton gives? Excited about this school but its pretty expensive!
my student host emailed me only like 2 days before i was going to stay with him. You can always email them again. As for the interview nothing really special of note...relaxed day but similar to a lot of schools. You have absolutely nothing to worry about very nice day overall. They are both 1 on 1 interviews. One is a faculty and one is a student. You might have 2 student interviewers but thats just because sometimes they sorta shadow to see how its done i guess.I am interviewing at Creighton this Saturday (23rd). Any advice on the actual interview (that is unique to Creighton)?
Also, I signed up to stay with a student host but I haven't heard anything since then, should I email someone to find out whether or not I am all set to go? For those that have stayed with student hosts, how did this work?
Thanks!!
A few quick replies...
Usually there was about a 2-3 week lag time between interview days and admissions committee meetings. This year, because there have been a few Friday-Saturday interview combos, it might be 3-4 weeks before some applications are discussed. Still, the turnaround is pretty quick. As for those who are eagerly anticipating the 15th, good luck!
About financial aid, unless you are a Creighton undergrad or the lucky recipient of one of those few diversity awards, it will be mostly loans. It's expensive for sure, but if it's the right place for you, it's worth it.
If you are interviewing, stay with a host! Don't worry if you haven't heard from your host by Tuesday. The way it works is that a list of interviewees/preferences/flight times is sent out on Monday, current students reply if they can host, then once they are assigned an interviewee, the host is given your contact info (usually on Tuesday). If you haven't heard from your host by Wednesday, then make sure to get in touch with the host committee contact. Just make sure you've checked your e-mail and that your listed number is correct. It's a little unnerving to not have every part of the trip in line, but don't worry, as long as you signed up and paid, you have a spot, and the person hosting you knows your flight times so he/she will be there to pick you up and drop you off.
Finally, for those that just received interview offers, congratulations! I look forward to meeting some of you. If there are any concerns about schedule conflicts, I wouldn't hesitate to call as the people in the office of admissions are super nice. If you are still waiting to hear back, don't worry just yet. This was only the second batch that went out, so there are still a ton of spots available from Jan-March. Be patient and send in updates if you have any.
thanks so much for your insight! As the 15th approaches, I'm getting more and more anxious. Do you know what time of day they usually call?😳
they did say snail mail when i interview on 9/4. though i believe we will also be getting a phone call? Could be wrong on that but i seem to remember someone saying that.I thought they said the response was via snail mail?? Also, did anyone interview on 9/25 or 9/26?

Dr. Nipper said that they would call admitted students and also send snail mail so that we can have a formal letter. But he definitely emphasized that we would receive a phone call. For my group, Oct 15th. If you call Jarmon, director of admissions, he should be able to let you know when your particular group should expect the call. 🙂
