Seeing how tons of people probably got this message, very slim might even be an understatement. I assume the only way you can get an interview now is if someone who is already scheduled cancels theirs.

Also received the Email. There is a very slim possibility that I will send any further updates.

Sorry for those who got the email, I just received an interview invite. Anyone know if they are flexible with rescheduling especially now? The date is set end of march, but I just need it to be a Friday instead of a Thursday.

Just got the invite too. Very sorry to those who got the weird email. I wish the best for all of you!!!

I am afraid this is an interview for a waitlist spot, but I am for sure going anyway as I have NO acceptances. I am skipping PCB spring break for this and I already paid for SB, but whatever.

got the email too...sigh..thought had a good chance and reasons for going here. guess its time to move on. congrats to those who got invites!

If you have no acceptances then for sure you might as well try. You can't get in if ya dont interview, and though their WL is huge I'm sure it moves pretty good. As of now, I do have acceptances and now that I know how many people got that email, they can kind of F off if they try and invite me now haha.

do schools really invite people just to waitlist them? I'm thinking if you do well you can get an acceptance? no

I just booked a room at The Melrose for $99.00/night; which after taxes came to $113.36. I interview on the 9th of February, and the booking is for Monday night. It's three blocks away from the medical center and is listed on GWU's website, so it seems like a good deal to me. The cheapest room on their site is like $157+tax for the same thing, so it definitely pays to call.

how did you get it that cheap? it's 300 online

I got the email too.... sounds like they sent out that email and interview invites? so I'm guessing if people don't accept their invites we have a "very slim chance" of taking their spot? I dunno just my guess

Do you think the interviews they offered yesterday are for spots on the waitlist based on past numbers or have people who interviewed this late been accepted in past years? Also how many students interview at GW compared to the spots they have?

Does gw accept distance Ed courses like physics where the lab is done in person?

I'm a few days late on this post. I was waitlisted - became an alternate - last week. I interviewed on 1/19. Is there a thread for those of us that have been waitlisted? How long will we have to wait?

I got an interview invite as well. Sorry to those who got the weirdly-phrased email. I'm pretty worried about interviewing for a waitlist spot, but I suppose it's worth it since I have no acceptances. I was thinking about requesting to reschedule to a Friday, but figure I'll just bite-the-bullet and interview on the day I was assigned (Thursday)- anyone else going to be interviewing on March 25th?

sorry if this has been asked already...

just making sure, does GW reject right right after the interview? or does everyone who gets an interview get placed on the Alternate List? thanks

waitlisted from my only interview. what do you plan on doing?

I'm kind of debating what i should do, and thinking about retaking the mcat in case I need to reapply cuz this time i want to get my apps in early (lateness is a major reason i dind't get many interviews this year).

anyone in a similar situation?

what happens if you hear back from the waitlist after you already apply, can you reject the offer without gw holding it against you in the next cycle?

i just feel like if i find something worthwhile to do next year and go through the trouble of reapplying and retaking mcats and hear back afterwards, I'd rather see where else I can get in since gw is sort of pricey and I'd probably rather go to my state school.

and sorry for those of you who got that weird email - honestly I almost feel like maybe gw is just looking at filling spots instead of outright rejecting people and they'll just take anyone who is willing to pay for tuition, which is why they don't want to outright reject anyone (at least i haven't heard of many rejections from gw) they need to man up and tell us the truth. waiting even longer after already waiting this long is sort of ridiculous considering the amount of people who got the email. i know lots of schools waitlist so i'm not hatin cuz I was waitlisted, i just don't agree with waitlisting this many people (I haven't heard of any rejections either)... or sending out weird emails to students that they won't interview and giving out hope that they may be interviewed.

I wouldn't do something like that. The GWU adcom would think that you never were keen on attending their school if you reject their offer and reapply again next year. Plus, you never know how successful you will be as a reapplicant. Next year you may not get any interviews if you don't show substantial improvements in your applicaiton. You can start the 2011 application but if you hear back from GWU, then take it.

Does anyone know the number of people normally on the wait list each year?? If they don't reject anyone post interview, which I'm sure they reject at least a small portion, than there could be hundreds and hundreds of applicants on the wait list.

I have the impression that GW only accepts and waitlists post-interview. Thus, the waitlist is, indeed, huge and although there is a chance, you should not hold out much hope for an acceptance. If it is your only hope for an MD acceptance, do not hesitate to get your app together for the next cycle. I agree it would be much better if they didn't string along ~500 applicants to the beginning of August. Many schools seem to practice the same policy, though. By the way, I interviewed at GW last year.

Hey gonzalt, waitlisted, too. From what I remember on interview day we were told after May 15th and up through June was the most common time for movement. Not sure how much...

FYI - I asked GW about reapplylingwhile on the wait list and here was the response:

"Thanks for your message and sincere interest in GW Medical School. As an alternate, you are welcome to begin to apply to GW again before you know your final status. We have many alternates who do this every year, and your re-application will not have a negative effect on your current application status."

That is only true if you don't get off the alternate list. The question asked was if you get accepted off the waitlist and turn it down and reapply next year, how would that look to GW. At least that is how I read the question.

I feel like passing up an acceptance would really kill your chances with at least GW the following year . I may be wrong but on some secondaries and maybe even the primary, there was a question about if you had been accepted (or matriculated) before, why are you applying again.

As a second time re-applicant, I suggest that if you get in, just take it. It's such a random process each time you apply that it's unwise to pass up a sure thing, ya know?

Sorry, but what is the difference between alternate and waitlisted

I use them interchangeably but I've heard there is a difference. A waitlist can only be active when enough acceptances have been sent to fill the class. An alternate list on the other hand is active throughout the interview cycle when there are still open spots (i.e. not enough acceptances have been sent out to fill the class). But in reality, there really is no difference.

Hey Gonzalt,
I interviewed on that day too! I was the tall loud asian guy. When did you exactly hear from them? I haven't heard from them yet? How did you hear from them?

Does anyone know how full the class is, or if it is full? The US News/World Report book I have says that GWU (I think this is 2007-2008) interviewed 942 and accepted 302!

Also, any idea how much numbers and letters of intent mean post interview?

Hello,
I believe the number is about same this year. They interviewed 1100 i think out of 14000 students. Did you interviewed?

I have one coming up.

Also, can someone correct me if i am misunderstanding the curriculum. The way I understand, it combines traditional lecture/laboratory with small group discussions (8 students + 1-2 mentors) that are similar to problem/case based learning

Really? That seems kind of rushed doesn't it? You only have 9 days notice. I assumed they would be on April interviews by now.
edit: were you on hold before the invite?

That's nothing. I got 5 days notice to interview on the 9th.

It's been a banner year from what I rem them saying during my interview. They said they had over 14500 applicants. Tis why GW is the most selective school in the country. 😉
