I just received an email about the PORTAL program. How many people actually apply for this thing and how competitive is it? I never even knew about it before they told me...

I am interviewing in late February....does anyone think that I will be interviewing for a spot on the waitlist, or does their acceptances continue this late into the cycle?

Acceptances continue to the end of interviews, so no one is specifically interviewing for a waitlist spot.

I've been complete since October with no word, and I'm wondering if this is really bad, or if I could classify this under the "no news, so-so news" department. Does Mt. Sinai reject? Do you guys know how late they send out invites?

Yes, they reject.

So are another round of decisions coming out in the next few days? I wonder if I'll hear back (interviewed early Jan.).

Last month it seems people heard the first Wednesday of the month. I was hoping for the same this month.

I interviewed the second week of January and am hoping to hear something back soon!

Has anyone sent a pre-interview update letter and had any luck with it? Mt. Sinai is my dream school, and according to their admissions office I'm still under review.

Well, I haven't had any luck. I sent them a letter a little under a month ago and still haven't heard anything from them. I've pretty much given up on them, but it sucks, because I would love to go there. 🙁

I sent them a letter in Oct. or Nov. and got an invite in Dec. Waiting to hear back now. Loved the school by the way--the students are so friendly and the school has great resources! Totally wouldn't "mind" coming here

ditto.

i interviewed january 8 and they said we'd be hearing the first or second week of february...

Just sent a letter of update, which will be coupled to an additional letter of recommendation. I'd do just about anything to get into this school, so I hope it's not too late.

just called admissions. lady was very nice. said no decision had been made on my file (interviewed jan 5) and that the next committee meeting was feb 23. hope this helps all you waiting for decisions.

For anyone interested - I called to ask about second look weekend and was told it will be April 30-May 1. Apparently, they will be sending out an email with this info soon.

Hmm, I'm surprised to read this as I was told to expect decisions in the first two weeks of February. I guess a couple more weeks of waiting won't kill me.

I sent Mount Sinai an update letter with my fall and summer grades as well as other activities on Jan 5. I heard back from them via email on Feb 5 that it would be added to my file.

After reading all these posts, is this a good sign? Because Mount Sinai is a dream of mine...and if the committee meets on Feb 23, is that when they also award interviews? Or are interviews extended without the committee???

Feb 23 is when interviewed applicants will be reviewed.

Not sure how they award interviews, but I was complete since August last year, and I only just got my invite a week or two earlier, so they really did take a long time to review me. They do post-secondary rejections, so don't totally count yourself out yet. Good luck! 🙂

Hi everyone, i decided to do the same and call... and she said they're meeting today about us (wahoo!) so we should hear back this week. also, you january 5 interviewers, we were such a great group! i loved meeting all of you and hope for the best 🙂

Just wanted to wish everyone waiting to hear back good luck. Sinai was one of my first acceptances this cycle and it's still probably the only med school I visited where nothing seemed to vibe badly with me. Just an awesome, awesome place with really nice people.

Good luck and maybe I'll see some of you in August assuming that's the path we all take 😉

That is interesting. I interviewed last week...I wonder if we will be included in today's meeting.:xf:

So I emailed the student hosting address last weekend and haven't heard anything yet - for those of you that stayed with students, when did they assign you a host?

I was given a host like two days before my interview. Cross your fingers that you get a good host...

I wonder if I'll be reviewed too. I interviewed a week after you. Any idea what range of interview dates are being considered at this meeting?

Just received the email. Interviewed the second week of January.

So sad. I really liked Sinai.

Any info on when there is waitlist movement?

Would you really go to Sinai over an instate like UCSF? Not judging, just a bit surprised...

+1....I don't know why they are "pleased to inform us", seems more like bad news. Nevertheless, if I get in before August 1st, I may go here.

Did you get a confirmation to the update letter? Would you mind sharing stats?

Waitlist here as well... interviewed last week of January. Bummer. Better than rejection though.

About 45% of Sinai interviewees eventually get an acceptance (either directly or after being placed on the waitlist). Compared to many schools that means your odds are actually not too bad.

Can someone speak to your chances if you are on the "alternate list"?

I think they took a relatively small amount of people last year but it significantly varies year-to-year. I think I heard anywhere between 25-75 people usually.

Anyone who interviewed on 1/26 hear back? I really liked my group and would love to know how everyone did...

yes, but about 3 weeks later. if you've just sent in information i wouldn't worry immediately if no one responds. pming you about stats.

do you have any idea what number of people are put on the wait list?

sigh. put on the alternate list here too. my third waitlist in three interviews. particularly sad about this one since sinai was my favorite at least of those three although my interview was not great, so no surprise there.. i am SO tired of waiting. someone just take me please 🙁 i promise ill be a happy, hardworking med student

Sorry to hear. There is still hope. I feel the same way with 4 waitlists out of 4 decisions. (1 decision still pending) Hang in there

Accepted today!!! I was really worried because I interviewed back on Dec 15th and I just heard from them by email today.

I'm actually in the exact same position as you Zona: 4 waitlists out of 4 decisions with one pending...so frustrating 😕

Extremely frustrating. I hate thinking about it because I get all stressed out. I hate not having somewhere to go this Fall yet and it scares me to think I might have to go through this again. :xf: Good luck to you and it's nice to know I'm not alone in my situation.

Not mention how hard it is every time someone asks, "So have you heard anything?" I should have not told anyone I was applying to med school haha.

Good luck to you too. I think in the end, the chances of us getting off a waitlist is pretty high. From everything I've seen on this forum, getting waitlisted is not a death sentence, so to speak. I'll message you later. I'm curious as to what you've been doing to maximize your chances at getting off the WLs

I just sent in my LOI and mentioned that they should reword the the "pleased to inform" us part to something more neutral. Those two seconds where you read "pleased" before you get to "alternate list" when scanning w yr eyes are so great then it comes crashing down! ha ha. It's not bad news tho...waitlist is a chance! We just have to convince them that we are worth it or something...

for accepted students: i was accepted a while ago and turned in the intent to register (or whatever that form was that holds a spot in the class till may 15th when you have to make a decision). is there anything else we have to be doing right now? the drug test isn't due until august i don't think and housing applications and stuff aren't supposed to be filled out until may. i just want to make sure i'm not forgetting anything

waitlisted. very frustrated 🙁 girlfriends gonna be in the city and id rather be in manhattan than the bronx! any one got tips on how to maximize chances of getting off the waitlist?

Thanks for being brave enough to post this. I guess when I complain about my situation, I really should consider what it feels like for people who do not have acceptances at all.

As of now, I have 5 acceptances (3 are in-state publics), but my favorite schools have either not gotten back to me post-interview for MONTHS, waitlisted me, or deferred making a decision on me. My plan as of now is to pick from the schools I have been accepted to as soon as I get my financial aid package in April, which will open up 4 slots for other people. And then if I get off the Wait List some time in June or July at a school I love and I will decide it's worth it to pull out of the school that I committed to.

So please have faith because I am sure that there are numerous people holding on to multiple acceptances so spots will open up on some WLs. Maybe not at your first choice but somewhere.
