Dr Powers told me the current students (MS1-4) will grad with "NYMC" degrees while we newcomers and forthcoming students will have degrees that make note of the Touro partnership. One of the student guides was pissed b/c he didn't know of the merger before coming and I think it's a due concern. Not to demean NYMC but think of the issue from both angles, don't just take the word of the two students here.
Dr Powers also rejected me today, oh well. Just wanted to see the result, wasn't intent on attending anyways. Best to all who do, as long as you know your material right?
Jman,
Your post is indeed consistant with what we've heard. NYMC isn't going anywhere, but Touro will "probably be added on at some point in the future." Whether or not that affects 2014, 2015, etc. we haven't gotten a definitive answer (Dr. Powers would not be definitive, in my opinion, as he's not in administration).
One bit of info that is somewhat new is how NYMC will refer to itself in correspondance. What I mean by that is, right now NYMC is "New York Medical College, a health sciences university in the Catholic tradition." The new reference will be "New York Medical College, a member of the Touro university system."
I think that expresses pretty well the way the partnership will be structured, again based on internal emails and forums with the president. NYMC stays separate, but will be a member of "the Touro family," as has been mentioned in the NYMC/Touro press releases.
Was your tour guide a second year student? My impression has been that people in the class of 2012 were shocked/furious about the news last year, as they had no idea it was coming. Those of us in 2013 - we knew about it during the admissions process (or at least it was out in the open). It's totally understandable that second-year opinions would be different than ours. People in the 3rd/4th year never seemed to care but then maybe I just didn't talk to the right ones. I guess they were far enough along that it didn't matter?
Anyway, that's my bit for the day.
