I really want an interview!! just to be sure they read my application

you and me!!

interviews go through April so hopefully there are some to be given out.
Hey guys! Interviewed earlier this week. Interview day is great, relaxe and friendly. The admissions counselor said interviews would probably end in late march but might (though unlikely) continue to April. I had both positive and negative viewpoints of the med school/palo alto so PM for more depth. In short....
Super research/acamedic focused.
Amazing facilities
Intimidatingly accomplished students
Very independent curriculum
Beautiful campus. Super isolated.
Amazing financial aid.
Little emphasis on primary care. Less focus on clinical skills than other schools.
Awesome bio research and interdisciplinary opportunities with engineering business and law school.
High living cost.

I started to get that vibe when the financial aid officer said that Harvard and Stanford Med have the most Soros Fellows...I think he said 5 or so a year! Have you seen their profiles? http://www.pdsoros.org/current_fellows/

I'll have to check that out. Everyone seemed to have won a prestigious national or international fellowship. Or already had a masters or phd degree. Spent time living abroad in obscure places abroad for long periods of time (sometimes multiple years). They said there are something like 60 hhmi fellows selected a year. Stanford usually gets 7-10 of those. That's like 15% of the class. And about 15% of all fellowships given out. It's insane!
I was utterly confused as to why they even invited me for an interview after meeting so many brilliant and accomplished students. Haha i clearly don't have anything as nearly as impressive.
Edit: went through the soros scholars. I think I met one of them when I was there.

Really? I thought they usually go until the end of April...has anyone received rejections yet?

Yeah I was surprised. Not sure if it'll happen but that's what the counselor said.

Hey everyone! I've kinda been lurking since my first posts, but thought I would just say hi and let people know I'm still here if anyone has any questions. Again, I'm a 1st year student, no affiliation with admissions or anything like that. I was so happy to hear about all the good news about interview invites and acceptances!!!
I'm glad to hear you had a great experience mdeast!!! Let me know if anyone has more questions after your interview too! I found mdeast's assessment to be almost dead on (and yes, the high living cost does suck, I hate to say it, but it's true). Though, I was surprised about the less focus on clinical skills than other schools and was curious what gave you that impression, I actually find it to be the opposite because we have clinical skills training regularly twice a week with standardized patients, and really early exposure to real patients both in the classroom environment, but also in the free clinics where I've worked at 3 times already in my first quarter taking patient histories and vitals, and this quarter am going in to practice physical exams.
The other con you mentioned is less emphasis in primary care, which is an unfortunate reality. I myself am really into public health and can't imagine doing anything else but primary care, and I think the resources here are great for that interest, but for some reason, overall, Stanford doesn't recruit as many people interested in primary care. It might just because the other parts of the med school are so strong. However, there are still great resources for those interested in primary care and us primary care people gotta stick together ;-).
Good luck everyone!

Yikes, 3 week turnaround! That means just 2 more weeks of waiting for me!

Probably so. Admissions counselor told me 2-4 weeks (I interviewed the beginning of this week). And that if I hadn't heard in 4 weeks to give him a call.

Same thing he told me! : )
Maybe the guy didn't like me - he told me 8 weeks! Yikes, now I'm nervous and sad I never got my boss to send in the LOR sooner 🙁 Oh well, I'm braced for the big rejection...

^ neurotic premedness.
Haha you're fine. I'm not sure when you interviewed but they seem to release batches of decisions. We probably just interviewed closer to when the next batch was set to be released than you did.
Hahah, well mostly that was me half-kidding half seirous... but I do realize SDN doesn't exactly translate that well. That being said, sadly, I cannot blame it on time. I interviewed the 13th, so who knows... I am really not holding my breath, it was a pretty big reach for my stats, so oh well. Still schocked they interviewed me to be honest.

If you were offered an interview I imagine that your stats are not a problem. They offer very few interviews overall and I really doubt they'd even bother if they didn't think the rest of your application made up for it and thought you could contribute to the class in a meaningful way. Good luck. I hope you get in.

I think the average stats are:
cGPA: 3.75
MCAT: 10.7 V, 12P, 12B (~35)
About 1/3 interviewees are accepted.
I just got a phone call from Dr. Garcia today, and the final conclusion: ACCEPTED!!!! 😀
I love Stanford 😍

I've not heard any news since I was complete in August - anyone know if it will help to send an update letter?

They only accept update letters from people who have been offered an interview

Do anyone know the email to send letter of update? (post-secondary)
Thanks!

Thanks!
Note: Stanford does not accept pre-interview (aka. post secondary updates). Don't bother sending it...it will not be added to your application unless you've been invited to an interview. They say this specifically on their admissions website and applicant instructions.
FYI, my friend got a post-secondary rejection from Stanford in the mail today (snail mail).
does stanford reject post-interview? or are they like UCSD where u're either accepted or thrown into acceptable applicant pool (essentially, the WL)?

i think they do reject post-interview, but i have no idea how common/rare it is
i could be totally wrong but i feel like i had previously heard that they do reject post interview. not entirely sure though.does stanford reject post-interview? or are they like UCSD where u're either accepted or thrown into acceptable applicant pool (essentially, the WL)?
Can someone post Stanford stats! How many are called for "the interview"? What is the acceptance rate? etc.etc. etc. etc. etc.
2008 Data:
6567 Applied, 473 Interviewed, 172 Accepted, 86 Enrolled
They have the second lowest acceptance percentage (Mayo is the absolute lowest).

I hope I have more luck here than I did at Mayo...got WLed at Mayo...
Does anyone know the turn-around time for WL/rejections and/or the process? I'm only asking b/c it seems as though the acceptance calls are in order of interview, so was wondering about the other not-so-good news and also how long it takes...

Man am I super nervous! Looks like most of the accepted people heard back within 13 or 14 days post-interview. I'm at day #13 today : \\\\
Ach good luck! I'm over a week post-interview now, so I'm thinking I might hear late next week.
On a side note, did anyone else get a sense that a lot of people that day tried to give you a false sense of security for at least a waitlist or acceptance. My faculty interviewer ended our interview by saying that he hoped I chose Stanford and that he'd be happy to give me a place in his lab if I wanted it. Getting a waitlist is going to be that much worse after hearing that lol.

seems like calls usually go out on friday.

Oh man, it seemed like EVERYONE gave me that impression. It seemed more like a "Welcome to our school, let me show you how everything works," rather than a "Let's see if you fit into our school, and then we'll show you how it works."

well, for what it's worth, my faculty interviewer didn't say such things to me. so maybe you're in good shape!
Totally agree, though I'm 99% sure I'm in the bad group based on the calls that went out (unless my interviewer disappeared suddenly for a week)... that being said, one interviewer just told me why I should go to Stanford (duh)...Oh man, it seemed like EVERYONE gave me that impression. It seemed more like a "Welcome to our school, let me show you how everything works," rather than a "Let's see if you fit into our school, and then we'll show you how it works."
Lol, their supplemental website is down for maintenance, thereby preventing me from checking it neurotically: http://med.stanford.edu/aes/
I didn't know the status website even changed based on information, does it?Lol, their supplemental website is down for maintenance, thereby preventing me from checking it neurotically: http://med.stanford.edu/aes/

Works for me. But I don't think it'll be updated with anymore information about your decision. It's mainly a making sure your complete and interview scheduling tool than a real update website.
