This is actually one of the reasons I am really interested in Iowa, I really got this impression on the interview day.

Ha ha, and I missed the part about the refund, which is awesome! Hard to turn down the invitation now...🙂
 
I sure hope we're on to something about acceptances going out Tuesday. That would be sick!

So...I believe March 10th fell a Monday in 2008. Does that mean today could be the day? Not that we're all not already obsessively checking our emails for an acceptance anyway. But just in case you were the one person not obsessing, you might want to check today 😳

Then again, emails went out on the 10th the past two years, a Monday and a Tuesday. So perhaps Wednesday is more likely. Ah, this is such fun!

God help my family, friends, and coworkers if we have to wait until Wednesday. Someone will probably kill me before I get my decision.

I think your probably right on, the 10th is wednesday so I'll be looking that day. Who are we kidding, ill be looking every day but i think its most likley that emails will be sent out wednesday
 
I have my University of Iowa Snuggie ready to break out if I get accepted. I highly recommend this. The idea of it makes me laugh so hard I forget I should be pulling my hair out over this waiting.
 
Just made a phone call to the admissions office, they have added a pre-recorded voice message asking for your name, phone number, and reason for calling. They must be getting swamped with phone calls. I was far to scared to leave a message...

Was going to ask about the status of our final decisions, I would feel much better asking carolyn directly rather than leaving her a message about applications and having her call me back. I wanted to remain anonymous as well I didnt want to hand them my amcas ID and phone number

Yeah, that makes sense. Maybe they just went to a really early lunch? Hopefully...? Possibly!
 
thats possible, but I have called a few times this cycle and I have never heard that message before so I'm assuming that the office is just getting phone call after phone from nuerotic pre-meds like myself who want to know when they are going to send out acceptances. Who knows, maybe Ill try again in the afternoon and see if that message still comes up. This process does not bode well for the 2 tests i have next week...

So have we resolved the date discrepancy? Does it have to land on a Tuesday, are is it always the 10th? I have been amping myself up for tomorrow.

Me too. But I dont think we have any means at our disposal to solve this...
 
i hope that's not true. that almost makes the waiting less bearable.
 
Unfortunatly i thnk its true, if they have not been released I doubt they are going to give us a date even if it is going to be tomorrow or wednesday. I think we just have to wait it out, but until then we can continue to enable our compulsive behavior on this thread 👍
 
What is the most frustrating is that the 10th is just an arbitrary date they picked out. I have a hard time believing that they would wait until that day to make their decisions. That being said, I'm sure we're all accepted already and they are just kindly holding their emails until Wednesday.
 
As promised I called, they said third week in march, I dont know if this is blanket statment they tell everyone but i do know they received considerably more applications this year than they have in years past so i think it might be possible that its just taking them more time to sift through everyone.

The final pool email said we'd hear "no later than March 20." So I'd guess it won't be later than next week (their spring break).
 
This whole process is ridiculous. You couldn't make your applicants wait for months to hear the decision in any other field.
 
I think i need to go see a psychiatrist 😱

This is the worst news I have ever heard. But thanks for delivering it anyhow, not knowing this and not getting an email tomorrow would have been really rough.
 
FWIW a few MS2s I met on interview said that Iowa does like to pull people out of the final pool. Don't give up hope!
 
Hate to be this guy, but do you think that Iowa might of just said it will announce results 3 week of march just so we would stop bugging them? they just have not sent notifications after the 2nd week in each of the last 5 years

I was wondering this too. Not necessarily to shut us up, but because it's their standard response. If it's not done by Wednesday though, we may be in for another week...
 
I really think I can publish a paper in psych by just going through the forums.
 
the response i got could easily be what they say to everyone, lets see how the next few days go, but im sure anything is possible. The only argument i could make that it may be longer is that they have more applications to go through this year,

Thank God for this forum though, it keeps us as sane as we can possibly be. Or at least we can all go crazy together.
 
Well thaatts just EXCELLENT. I promised myself a extra large chocolate custard with like three toppings mixed in AND a spa pedicure if I got in or wait listed........ I'm not sure I can wait another week for that. Let alone have to worry about it during my SPRING BREAK! ...confirmation of anxiety and OCD Dx? CHECK!
 
Iowa treats its applicants like crap. Why would a school intentionally make an ambiguous deadline for applicants and make the process so mysterious. The state as a whole is a frozen hell with a homogeneous population of goody-two-shoes. Soo glad this is not my only option for med school.

Hey now, easy killer. 😱 Iowa is not that bad, and actually Iowa City has very little in common with the rest of the state. I know this from a great deal of personal experience. It's a nice place to live, and there is plenty to do. It is pretty darn cold, however. :meanie:

I'm not sure why they do this whole final pool mess, it really drags out the process longer than necessary. It doesn't mean they hate you though! :laugh:
 
I also have around 10 years of experience living in this state. I know ppl will not accept criticism of the school/state bc they are set on going here by this point but this is the opinion of my family, many of my friends, and myself. Seriously though, the school is a respectable program but it just seems everyone here is hypocritical and self-righteous. Not to mention, there is no reason to live in this God-forsaken wasteland of a state if there are warmer options.

Bring on your rebuttals.
