just got my acceptance via snail mail. interviewed on the 17th (sat) and called that next thurs.

FYI

I interviewed on the 17th also and got my letter today (maybe i met you). So with the $100 deposit, if we decide to withdraw before May15th, is that refunded? Not sure what I'll decide, but was just curious if anyone knew.

I got my acceptance call 10/15. was super excited, and still am.
UK wasn't a top choice going into the interview, but after learning more I really like the school. congrats to everyone! post if you accept the spot...

Ditto on 10/15 acceptance and it becoming one of my top choices after interviewing. I'm still kind of in disbelief, so I really want the final acceptance packet (got the conditional one less than a week after the 10/15 call). I know background checks don't take very long, and they haven't cashed my acceptance deposit check, so I really want the final acceptance and am starting to wonder if I should call... I think it's a mixture of irrational paranoia and excitement. 🙂

What's the conditional offer? So they'll send a conditional packet first, then a final one?

The conditional offer is just pending the criminal background check and $100. Once you complete those they give you the 'official' acceptance.

so, i was looking at the costs for OOS students,

yes the tuition guarantee is nice and i really really like this school.

but, it is approx. 80,000 per year total. meaning 320 plus another year of MPH which i would like to do. so, lets say 40 for that.

thats about 360 after 5 years. I have no idea, is UK or any out of state tuition worth it?

I have IS acceptances, but, i dono, i do not want to go to those as much.

i suppose i would be down 100 less? it all seems like a lot of money anyway.

Military? 😳

Yeah, I know. I really like UK as well. I don't understand why they make the OOS tuition so high. Though honestly their IS tuition is higher than average for most southern public schools.

I guess really only you can decide whether 100k+ is worth 4 years of studying. It's a constant debate on SDN.

ha, no thank u military.

has any one heard anything new regarding sending in the letter of confirmation for your seat next year?

Has anyone interviewed for or will be interviewing in December for the RPLP?

I interviewed at UK on Tuesday. I really liked it there, UK is my top choice. Hope to get in.

So I called and they told me that the background checks and final acceptances are done for the first non-EDP's in January. I'm assuming that's also when they cash our $100 acceptance deposits? Or have they already cashed any of yours?

My check still hasn't cleared. I hope they don't wait too long! haha

When did you guys receive your paperwork after acceptance? I was accepted on 10/22 and haven't gotten anything yet. Would hate to miss the 2 week (or whatever it is) deposit deadline if this stuff is lost in the mail!

I received my stuff on the 3rd of Nov. and mailed it back on the 4th. I was accepted by phone call on the same day as you. Where are you from?

Not far enough to justify a 10+ day delay! 🙁 Is there a 2 week deadline in which to return the paperwork?

ya there is but im sure if u called and explained the deadline would be quickly erased.

remember, ur accepted, they want u

They are taking a long time to deposit the checks. Mine just posted yesterday and I'm EDP and was accepted in late September, just to give you an idea.

bump...anything new in UK MED land?

Any idea when we might start hearing about scholarships and financial aid packages?

Well, from talking with financial aid, we could hear about scholarships as early as December all the way through June if I understood them correctly. Hopefully those of us that have gotten in early in the process will be able to hear if we got anything earlier.

Anyone interviewing this weekend?

Accepted for RPLP today! Very excited! Looks like an amazing program.

Congrats Go Sen Go! I bet that's a great opportunity.

Has anyone heard anything about scholarships? When are we supposed to know about those?

Hey does anybody know how full the class is already??? I have an interview on Jan 16 and just wanted to know my chances... I'm in state if that helps

yeah i got that email, says class is full and they won't be offering any other acceptances until May when they'll rank the alternative list...

got the same email... bummer 🙁 anyone know how much the alternate list moves from past years?

shouldn't have push post so many times..

How long do I have before I must confirm an acceptance? I would like to wait until I hear back from Iowa, which may take a while considering the holidays are coming up. Plus, I have 3 more interviews in January. Will I have time to consider all my options?

Theman, you can accept and then back out before may 15th with no consequences.

To all interviewing in Jan, a student i talked with when i interviewed said he was accepted directly after his interview which was in mid jan. admissions told him that the class was full as well. keep up hope

anybody going to this thing january 9th? dunno if its valuable or not...

ya i'll be there.

I'm hoping to get some more information about how loan repayment works

I'll be there too. After focusing so long on simply getting into med school, I was elated to actually be accepted. However, the harsh reality of paying for med school (and going into >200k in debt) has hit me in the face like a ton of bricks. Hopefully I can learn some info that alleviate my fears. Still, if I get into my state school (i'm acutally from KY but am now a MO resident) I will have to seriously consider going there instead.

I understand. I'm technically considered an OOS student as well (but looking to change that). UKY is a pretty awesome place though, so here's to hoping we can get great financial aid so it's not so much an issue! 👍

I just checked my status today and it said my application is on hold. Should I be expecting a rejection?

Yeah, comparing tuition for the other schools at which I'm interviewing shows that UK's cost of attendance is sky high for a state school. Even with the tuition guarantee, I'd still end up paying way more than I would anywhere else.

Still, it's the only school which has actually accepted me so far. I hope they can work some financial magic next week!

Hey guys, yeah I'm going to be there on the 9th as well. Do you think we'll get a chance to look around campus again at all or will it just be financial aid and food? Anyways, I'm looking forward to visiting again. The school was awesome and even though I'm OOS, it's where I'm going as of now.

i have no idea but I will be going to a basketball game that night. Home game against Georgia. Gotta love SEC and UK basketball. Go cats

Has the snow/ice messed up anyone's plans for Saturday? I'm coming from Tennessee through the Cumberland Gap on 25E, and SE KY might be a little hazardous for me. And I really need to travel tomorrow rather than wake up real early on Sat. (that's way early to drive to Lexington!). Not sure if I'll be able to make it....here's to hoping the roads clear up!

Well SE KY might be a bit risky but once you hit 64 you should be all good. Hope ppl are coming, wanna meet the class

I'd like to know as well.... 😳

It wasn't very enlightening. First we went over financial aid, but few specifics were discussed. In fact, most of what we went over had already been covered on interview day. There was a student panel who talked about paying for med school, but I don't recall any of them giving info that was very interesting. Then there were some speakers who discussed service and research opportunities. Overall, I'd say the day was geared more toward parents and family, as any student who has already been accepted has surely researched the school enough to know what was covered.

ya i agree with that.

BUT, it was also nice to meet many of the prof's, deans, and program directors that were there.

it is just such a nice medical campus

Yeah, there really wasn't anything new or special that was said, and frankly, I was kind of put off by some of the incredibly obnoxious parents that seemed to comprise the majority. I'm sorry but every student in the room got accepted and you're kid isn't special!😡 Sorry I'm blowing steam.😱 I LOVE UK though, so I was really happy to get another excuse to visit. The more I visit, the more I am convinced that this is where I want to be to study medicine. The students I met were wayyyy cooler than the parents and the professors I talked to seemed so down to earth. I may be a sucker but this school says they're going places and I certainly agree

rocknaction, parents were probably just proud, super proud. they just had a morning saying how their children are the future, etc...

but anyway, i agree with believing that UK is going places. from my experiencs the facutly and students have been nothing but nice as well. (makes me think OOS tuition is worth it)
