I think it depends on when you interviewed. it seems like the earlier interviewees are getting their notifications today.

UMass is many people's first choice because it is such a good school that is pretty inexpensive. It also is one of the schools that doesn't really overaccept for the amount of spaces it has, so the waitlist generally moves a great deal. Getting waitlisted is like being moved to a pool that isn't accepted, but that has a fairly good shot at being accepted. Many people would like that at their top choice (or any school they like) this late in the year.

I'd kill for a waitlist, but I haven't gotten one yet.
 
I think that those who interviewed in March shouldn't be worried- that's just my intuition talking...I would be surprised if they had already decided on all of you guys already but who knows. I think in the past the waitlists did all come out at together but it seems really early. Seems like maybe it's just the earlier interviewees getting notice, as someone else stated. I think the rest of the acceptances and WLs will be case by case and then a mass rejection. I don't really want to post my exact stats but they are similar to the last person who posted theirs with a lower GPA. This is WL #3 for me, I have 1 DO acceptance and waiting to hear from one other school. I really feel the pain of those who heard nothing today🙁, I was dreading being in that position. My sister interviewed in January and did not get anything today...waiting is just awful. I'm definitely not a fan of Umass' way of doing things. I just really really hope that we All get in Somewhere:luck::luck::luck: I'm happy with my DO acceptance and even though I would 10000000X rather go to umass, I know that I will be starting school in the fall. Either way, I 😍 Umass so I'm happy to still be in the running.

Can we have a group hug????😍

I am very confused by this waitlist situation. I interviewed in November and did not receive anything today... Does this mean I will be receiving a rejection soon?

I had a January interview (3.6/38Q) and I haven't heard back.

This timing is different from last years, so I'd hesitate to try to predict what everything means at this point, although I personally am imagining a bunch more waitlists (MAYBE some acceptances, but I personally don't think so) and then rejections/acceptances off the waitlist.

I agree that coming acceptances would most likely either be late interviewees or off the WL. Nobody knows anything for sure ( except that there is no way they skipped the entire month of jan😛) concerning what todays WL means but based on last year it would not mean good news for most of the people who didn't get the email today. Again, the email was a few weeks earlier than expected so it's hard to say...
 
Yup! One acceptance (Albany, a school I like but not as much as UMass) and a ton of waitlists.

But UMass is where I really want to go. Pretty much where I've wanted to go since I decided on medicine.
 
So I just spent the last hour reading last year's thread... It looks like UMass sends out waitlist emails in small groups every couple weeks. But if you don't hear anything by mid-May, it's a rejection that's coming. So I will be hoping for a waitlist soon I guess...

****here are the stats from 2008:
Total admissions data:
814 applied, 460 interviewed, 194 were accepted, 114 enrolled
In-state admissions data:
725 applied, 437 interviewed, 184 were accepted, 111 enrolled
Out-of-state admissions data:
89 applied, 23 interviewed, 10 were accepted, 3 enrolled
that means, 80 people total turned down an acceptance. assuming a waitlist of 125 people (of course, that's a big assumption), 64% came off the waitlist last year.

On my interview day I think they said that last year they interviewed just under 600(is that possible?) and that 190 were accepted in the end for 125 spots.

Wow, thanks for putting all of that together! Its nice to see that there are (hopefully) more waitlist spots coming. I interviewed back in September and am still waiting to hear back too. I guess if we don't hear back by early may then we know our fate.
 
So second look information was sent out the other day. It's on 5/7 and 5/8. Who's going? I likely will.

Now, if only we could get our hands on a 2010 match list.
 
Does anyone else find the notion that all we have left are a few wait-list spots... depressing?

Plus now I get to save up another $2,000 to blow on June primary applications while I sit and wait on wait-lists and maybe wait-lists.

Someone should sell medical school application insurance! So if I get in in July/August I can recollect all those wasted application fees.

um, yes. Umass is my only potential this year and I've sort of resigned myself to applying again in june.

just popping in to give y'all a bit of hope: i was accepted in october, but will likely withdraw after i get financial aid offers from all of my schools. and i can't be the only one-- the WL will move!!

Also, do people think at this point that Umass will send their rejection letters in May instead of piece by piece?
 
My friend interviewed mid-march and just got a waitlist offer.
 
Giving y'all some hope. My friend just got accepted to UCSF and would most likely withdraw after he gets financial aid.

Here's to the waitlist moving soon.

If I understand your question, this is what we were talking about before. It seems that WLs go out in batches and that eventually if you are not offered a spot on the WL you will most likely be receiving a rejection. It seems too early to assume the worst though as WLs went out last year until May 1st. See that huge post of mine above for clarification 😛

Yes it was. I was asking if anyone within the last few weeks had received a note saying Umass was rejecting them but not offering them a spot on the waitlist. I guess they are saving the rejections for May. How nice of them! lol

hey congrats! i wonder if theyll give out any acceptances before the end of may, or just wait to give a whole bunch out then.
 
Last year it looked like waitlists went out all of April; then 1-2 miracle waitlists 5/1 then piles and piles of rejects around 5/5.

So i.e. if you haven't heard...or don't hear soon...

DOOM! (so to speak)

I've already starting filling out application stuff and started pushing $$$ into the saving account (sigh)
 
I was waitlisted today (4/16). My interview was on 3/9.
Currently, I'm holding three acceptances and I'm on two other waitlists,...but that being said...I really like UMass! Here's hoping to getting in off of the waitlist.

historically, half the class comes off of the wait list, and this seems to be mostly independent of economic pressures. so probably between 50 - 60? this is coming from a well informed source. as for how many are on the list, i'm pretty sure not more than 125 at any given time, but that's just educated guessing. i'm pretty sure also that even though its an "unranked list," there's some kind of internal rank or tiering system that they use. however, from looking at last year's thread, i can't discern any pattern at all really, as far as how they pull ppl from the list.

in conclusion, im slowly going insane from this :scared::idea:🙂😴

He got in off the waitlist in june. I really don't know if it's just her or what cause my friend's bf is a nice guy. (I'm nice too😛!) but yeah, she was givin me some real weird vibes. lol

ive decided that checking this thread so often is having negative mental health consequences, and ultimately is a waste of time. im peacing out indefinitely haha. good luck everyone and congrats again CZiino!
