I ALSO GOT IN OFF THE WAIT LIST TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!😱😱😱

THIS IS THE HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE. SERIOUSLY. 😀😀😀😀😀

I was so surprised to hear so early - waitlisted april 2nd - so sorry for those of you still waiting : ( This is my absolute dream come true, I'm a umass grad and umass is my 1st choice. THis is also my first MD acceptance. I reaaaally hope that each person on here gets to experience the joy I felt today. It feels so incredible to know that something that I worked so so hard for actually came to fruition. GOOD LUCK GUYS!

congrats on the acceptance, that's amazing!

but for those of us who have not heard anything, it cannot be good that people are already getting in off the waitlist. seems like the waitlist must be pretty much finalized at this point. damn I did not think my interview went that poorly, but I was sick on that day, so maybe something was just off... anyways good luck everyone

For those on the waitlist, has anyone written a letter to the Admissions Office or do you think it's best to just sit tight and wait?

I've been wondering the same thing since I don't know how responsive they are to letters.

To the people who were accepted off the waitlist, did you receive a background check email before your acceptance notice. Just wondering, as I am slowly losing my mind.

Congratulations to y'all too. That's pretty much my though too. We might get a few more waitlists, but this is not going to be a good sign for those that haven't heard yet.

I did not get a background check email before the acceptance. I had been working on a letter for Umass for about a month but I hadn't sent it yet. I know they say they are not super responsive to letters but I can't imagine that it would hurt you.

I think you only get a CBC email for your first acceptance. For any subsequent acceptances, schools will just receive the CBC report from AMCAS that you already verified for the first acceptance.

Okay so I just found at 10:30 that I was WAITLISTED, now all I have to to is reply to that email and say "yes" I do want to be considered for the upcoming 2010 class?

This is my first MD acceptance and I did not get a CBC email for my DO acceptance either. Umass said to expect it soon.

I was also wait listed today. Does anyone have any insight, however general it may be, about what the ballpark chances of acceptance might be for someone wait listed at this point in the process? Any insight at all would be very helpful. Thanks.

Congrats! Join the UMass 2014 facebook group 👍

Would it be rude to email the office of admissions asking for the 2010 match list?

Thoughts? I'd really like to take a look at it. Maybe we'll see it at second look. I never understood why UMass doesn't post them online like most other med schools.

I don't think it's rude at all. Unless you word it that way. I've had other schools where I've been accepted send me their match list without my even asking. It's a reasonable request. That said, they might not do it.

Got onto the Waitlist today!🙄 Hope I'll hear back from them with good news soon :xf:!

While I've pretty much lost most of my hope, this is great news for those of us that haven't heard. And grats!

for those of you who were waitlisted - does it say that when you log on to the system in peoplesoft? or does it still have that message about your application being reviewed? Thanks!

It still says the same thing. The only way you'll know is through email.

Can someone please post the bit about sending in transcripts from the wait list email?

"If you have not submitted final grades for any of our prerequisite courses, please update us on their status as soon as possible. In addition, please send us a final official academic transcript of any course work you will have completed this year as soon as it becomes available."

Thank you very much, Sciurid.

congrats to those who were accepted off the waitlist!!! what great news! 😀

Just got the news as well. Gotta agree, much better to know now.

I am sorry, guys. I hope you hold acceptances elsewhere. If not, you'll get in eventually, sooner rather than later. Chin up 😎

I was put on the wait list and hope to get a feel for my chances. I think that the woman said ~190 acceptances were granted for 115 spots for the 2009 entering class...

I have seen all the threads from last year, some more user-friendly than others. It seemed like last year people that got wait listed in early april eventually were accepted, while people added to the WL in late april were not so lucky.

In light of the recent rejections, does this mean that there class is solidifying earlier this year? I hope not...

I: 9/29 R: 4/26

I am so thankful that I heard earlier than last year's group.

Do you mind my inquiring as to how you were notified? I interviewed 10/27, fairly certain I'm rejected as well by now, but I haven't heard anything by email or status page... maybe I should send an additional Hail-Mary reiteration of interest?

Email notification. Can't hurt to send them something...

Well - I've been thinking about this too...and I've had a little free time to waste apparently.

2009
54 SDNers Interviewed
17 Accepted
24 Waitlisted
5 Accepted from waitlist
22 Total Accepted

Possibly others were accepted off of the waitlist, but no longer posted on SDN

2010
59 SDNers Interviewed out of ~600 Total Interviewed Applicants = 10% of all UMass interviewees posted on SDN
15 Accepted (9-10 probably attending)
14 Waitlisted
2 Accepted from waitlist so far
17 Total accepted so far

We can probably expect around 5 more acceptances for the 12 remaining SDNer waitlisted people. So I'd say each of us has around a 50% chance of getting accepted at this point. Good luck everyone! UMass seemed pretty awesome to me.

I don't quite remember from interview day, but is this year's entering class at UMass guinea pigs for the new curriculum or have they been implementing it in stages over the last couple years?

Rejects going out in pieces? That seems new. At least its not on May 15th...yay for promptness!

Last year some kids claimed they got accepted late late April not off waitlist, has anyone heard of this happening yet this year, or are we all just assuming [lacking waitlist = done]

The curriculum director told us that they've been working on the new curriculum for five years and that they've been testing the different elements, but this is the first year of full implementation. It sounded like they had done a very good job of preparing as compared to other schools, who are implementing new curriculae. (Pl sp?)

As for getting off the wait list - UMass is dedicated to creating a class with a racial make-up that mirrors the population of Massachusetts (80% white, %20 minority). If they want 13 asian students in the entering class, and an asian applicant decides not to matriculate on 5/15, that person will likely be replaced by an asian wait lister - likewise with other races.

that's the sense i got, too. they've been implementing pieces of it very slowly, and now it'll be in full force. oh, and it's curricula 🙂

where did you hear this?

I heard this from a friend who participated in a summer research internship at UMass Med. They have close interaction with Admissions, especially Dr. Hynes. I forget but it might mention something to this effect in the MSAR, as well.

I actually had never seen Dr. Hynes - so I just read her bio on the UMass faculty page. Here is the first few sentences:

"An exceptional leader and role model for more than 25 years, Deborah Harmon Hines, Ph.D., has been a driving force in developing a diverse biomedical research and healthcare workforce reflecting the Commonwealth's population."

Got my rejection today. Was expecting it at this point 🙁. Good luck to you all on the waitlist!!

Thats an ever so slight sliver of hope. With the rejections going out daily and silence on the WL front, I feel like I'm clinging to the debris of sinking ship caught in a storm.

Gonna put on my shades and await my fate 😎

interview 12/2. rejected today.

on to next years apps.

Haha, nevermind, just got rejected. Looks like the ship finally sank.

Actually wait, now I feel more 🙁. Oh well, congrats to those who got in, and gl to those of you still waiting to hear.

Rejected, interviewed mid-feb, well at least now I know for sure where I am going

Good luck to those waiting/on the WL 👍

i: 10/20
R: today

sincere congrats to those who go in!

anyone else feel like an email was insenstive of them? I personally would've rather gotten a letter sent home and gotten the news in the privacy of my home instead of getting upset and teared up in the middle of my day at work. I know the economy is bad but I would have expected Umass to have considered interviewed applicants who weren't accepted to be worth at least $0.44 of respect.

Interviewed: 12/2
Rejected: today (4/27)

Good luck to those on the WL!

I: 10/14
R: 4/27

I already had my heart set on Miami, so I'm not too disappointed. It was just a matter of waiting to hear as far as I was concerned - guess my decision has been made for me! Best of luck to everyone waiting.

Another data point for the stats-keepers:
I: 10/27
R: 4/27 (exactly six months, how ironic!)

UMass was my top choice too (WL elsewhere), but hopefully I can find some way to revamp my application and garner another interview this fall, now that I've worked out the interview kinks.
And as for the email, I actually prefer it - it's quick and traceable, and at least this way I don't have flashbacks to those stupid thin envelopes from when I applied to college. I don't think a paper rejection really mitigates the "Sorry that years of your dedication and sacrifice wasn't good enough. It was hard for us, too." message anyway... 😛
Good luck to the rest of you!

Here are two poorly thought out rejections that I received:

1. E-mail on Thanksgiving day at 2pm. Obviously someone had it on automatic send.

2. An e-mail telling me to see an attachment, which turned out to be a pdf of a rejection letter.

Sometimes people don't think. 🙄

That's just flat out wrong! Sometimes I think these people love picturing peoples faces when they open that reject letter or PDF? Why not just send the simple email that say" Reject" no explanation needed. Sorry about the bad new on turkey day.
