Nevermind, read the website more...in the timeline it said "late December" as the end of interview season but in the "interview schedule" section it said January 16th.
 
They said 250 acceptances would go out by the end of Dec :xf:.

While I didn't apply to Yale myself, I do know their curriculum is extremely research oriented, and I imagine they tend to attract a lot of applicants that are pretty certain they want to go into academic medicine and center their careers around research. A number of my classmates fall into this camp, but I'd say the better part (including myself) are on the fence. They'd like to get involved in significant research while in medical school, but aren't sure yet where their research/clinical equilibrium lies. This uncertainty may lure some away from research-centered programs like Yale toward straddlers like UTSW.

Of course, in-state tuition and warmth (nearly) year round can be compelling, too.

Second looks are a good opportunity to really see which programs 'feel' right. Congrats again... maybe we'll be fellow med students next year. 🙂

Thanks! I am stoked to have this option. And what impressed me most was that UTSW appears to prepare outstanding practicing physicians. That's what I want to be. That's how I want my docs to be, too. I want to be able to digest research quickly and accurately, though, so I can be up-to-date. More like up-to-minute. And I think research experience really fosters journal article understanding.

You're so right about the warmth. My wife is all about warm, and we all know who really makes the decisions in a marriage...

Good idea on the second look. I would love to go back down and bring my wife. You're right about the 'feel' concept. And thanks for your words. You were truly helpful. Perhaps I'll see you this fall.

Ha! You're right, we Mormons do have that tendency. I'm sure I would meet her.

And as for Baylor, I think it is an outstanding school. It seems, though, that they do not reciprocate that opinion. I was not offered an interview at Baylor. Kudos to those heading there.

After completing my interview at UTSW and talking to the 3rd and 4th years who have Q5's and sometimes even Q3's on call, I wonder if Baylor, let alone any other school, would prepare you for residency as well at UTSW. But, if you would like a little lighter load for med school and the door is open, well why not Bayor?

Are you headed to Baylor maybe?
 
Just got an email saying I've been accepted to UTSW.

I'm instate, BTW, so I wasn't expecting to hear anything until next week (after Nov. 15). Guess they're sending some pre-match offers out early!

If I interviewed in august and didn't receive a prematch acceptance today, does that pretty much mean I won't be receiving one and will have to wait for the match?

I was wondering that too about OOS acceptances. I've been sitting here since 10AM cali time waiting for something, and nothing. Starting to get depressed. I interviewed on 10/3 so it has been quite a while too...

They told us at the interview last weekend that they sent out ~23 oos acceptances on 10/26. Most of those oos interviewed the first weekend in October. They also said that between 11/13 and the middle of December they will send out ~230 acceptances. I'm assuming that most of those 230 will be in-state pre-match offers, but let's hope that some of them are oos. I'm oos by the way.

I hope they will provide instructions on how to accept the offer in the forthcoming formal acceptance letter.
By the way, this is my first choice too! 🙂
I will decline all other offers as soon as I get formal acceptance letter.

Announcement: I know it's early but everyone that is going to be part of UT southwestern's class of 2014, Please join the face book group! I just started it and I'd like to get to know my classmates!
( our theme this year will be to emphasize how much cooler ( and even numbered ) we are than the year before us 😉)

yesterday made me one of those crazy pre-meds. I'm curious when all you who have gotten acceptances interviewed with UTSW. i was mid october.

does anyone know if UTSW sent out all of their pre-matches friday?

for everyone who was accepted, do you mind sharing when you interviewed there?

ahh i really hope i get a pre-match offer here! interviewed 10/17
 
Wes Norred said that they send out prematches through mid-December...which implies that they go out in batches and not in one day.

hehe i was refering to the big rivarly A&M has with the long horns.. rivalry as in " how badly will a&m get beaten this year?"

Now, now to say ou isnt a rival of UT ( they are) but, I have a feeling more aggies and longhorns will be there than sooners due to in state etc.

yes. you are an owl : P though i wonder how many we'll have, i don't think it'll be the major player ( though i'm just assuming based on last year's apps)
 
Congrats to all who have been accepted! I'm a student here, and in past years, this is how the acceptances have gone.
They usually send out ~250 prematch offers by Dec. They go out approximately weekly. They did send out a majority of them for the Nov. 15 date. Historically, UT Southwestern does not match many people (I think 2 people matched last year.) There is a huge movement off the waitlist starting on May 15. I got in off the waitlist, and a lot of people do. I believe they offer ~100-150 off the waitlist. Hope that answers any questions!!
 
If you interviewed early october and didn't hear on the nov 15 date does that mean that you are automatically waitlisted or rejected? or do they continue looking at all files that they haven't made a decision on yet through december?
 
You are by no means rejected. They keep looking at the files until after May I believe. Also, I believe applicants are considered waitlisted after the match. All applicants are automatically waitlisted.
 
"Thus far, we have extended 220 offers.

If this year follows previous patterns, we would expect to extend another 130-160 offers by the middle of next summer.

We will likely make more offers prior to mid-December although I cannot predict the number. Anyone we have interviewed will be considered - not just those interviewed after November 15."

That's pretty insane. If they send out ~250 by Dec. then they will only offer 30 more ppl pre-match? YIKES.
