Hey clearsight, congrats on the acceptance! I saw your post about some choosing UTSW over Yale and couldn't help but chip my two cents in. While I didn't apply to Yale myself, I do know their curriculum is extremely research oriented, and I imagine they tend to attract a lot of applicants that are pretty certain they want to go into academic medicine and center their careers around research. A number of my classmates fall into this camp, but I'd say the better part (including myself) are on the fence. They'd like to get involved in significant research while in medical school, but aren't sure yet where their research/clinical equilibrium lies. This uncertainty may lure some away from research-centered programs like Yale toward straddlers like UTSW.
Of course, in-state tuition and warmth (nearly) year round can be compelling, too.
Second looks are a good opportunity to really see which programs 'feel' right. Congrats again... maybe we'll be fellow med students next year. 🙂
