does anyone know the cheapest walking-distance (or shuttle service) motel/hotel near ut southwestern? someone earlier said there was a place for $35 a night. on the list that came with the interview info, there wasn't one for that cheap :-( if anyone has suggestions, please post/PM! i won't have a car, so walking/shuttle would be important for me. :-D thanks!

I think it would be best for you to stay with a student! That's what I did, and I'm pretty sure that most students would not mind driving you over in the morning. Although that would be something to confirm by e-mail correspondence before you attend your interview...

yup, i emailed and no reply yet :-( and my interview date is next weekend! hoping for a reply soon...it might've been the holidays since i emailed around then. just thinking of a backup plan just in case. thanks!

If the stats people have thrown out on this thread are correct, I wouldn't be surprised if there's not another one. Rumor has it that they've sent out 220, and i can't imagine many people are declining those at this point. That's essentially the entire class.

I know that they always send out many more offers than there are spots, but I'm assuming no school ever has more offers than spots out at the same time.

Maybe there will be a few. Maybe they'll save those few for the match. My guess is there won't be a lot of news until the post-match movement.

I'd love to be proven wrong though!

I heard last year on Match Day only about 10 people matched? And the rest of the people got in off the waitlist after match day.

Wes Norred said two weeks ago that they will send out about 60 more prematch offers the first half of December, for a total of 280 prematch offers. Then they won't really do anything else until the match.
So there's still hope for late interviewees to prematch, but I think if you interviewed early in the season (before November) you probably won't hear anything until the match.

Well that's good to hear. But I have a question to all those who interviewed after 11/13 (or to anyone that knows the answer to this question) ... Do you guys already see UTSW in your "Update Match Preferences" Section? Because it showed up for me a like a couple of days ago and I didn't know if this was like telling me that I won't be prematched already?

I don't think that means anything...it just means you've interviewed there. All the schools I prematched at are also on my match preferences list so I think you're still OK 🙂

Yes -- even if you prematch at a given school, you'll still have to rank it going into the match, so all of the ones you have visited should be there.
 
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned already but there is a UT SOUTHWESTERN CLASS OF 2014 group on facebook, so everyone can meet each other!😉

If you are looking for housing within walking distance to UTSW, send me a message!

Brand new townhouse for sale (or can consider lease)--WALK to school or take the shuttle to class, hospitals, wherever. Right across the street from the Rad Onc building (where you had the interview dinner)

CHEAPER and NICER than the student housing and Inwood on the Park Apts!!

3 story, 3 bed + study, 3.5 bath, scraped wood floors, granite, stainless appliances, 2 car-garage.

20 unit community--Mostly med students (they are nice and will help you a lot), residents, fellows, young professionals!! Can't beat the convenience, price, and quality! Take ADVANTAGE of the TAX CREDIT now if you buy it--Find a couple of roommates, live for free (or make money off of them--that's what two other med students are doing).

For those who are at UTSW right now for interviews, did they tell you guys when they're going to release the next batch of prematch offers?
 
I guess we will find out when someone posts that they got an acceptance. I was hoping that it would be today (friday) but I didn't get an email. Not to be a pooper or anything but...I hope noone else got one either. haha

ps. The townhouse comes with a study full of UTSW textbooks, if you need them.

Check out the classifieds section for other pictures and stuff.
There are 3 floorplans in the community--Ours is the only one available with a study (and it's the biggest...and we added more wood floors)--And we are selling cheaper than the others!

Best of luck, everyone...If you are playing the "waiting game," hang in there! My acceptance came in May--An email just randomly hit my account at like 5pm. Exciting!
 
Does anyone know what time the clinical rounds usually end? I checked the information sent with the email and I didn't see any sort of estimate. Thank you 🙂

Not positive, but I'm pretty sure they said to report at 8 AM -- check out the original email with the clinical rounds offer from wes norred.

Hello, for those of you who have decided tihs is the school for you, join!

I think i'm going to live at medpark for my first year. I reserved a 1 room apt anyways.. But, It'd be cool to have a roomate in a 2room one too!

" [information about when I applied, interviewed, was recommended, etc...],
To date we have offered 237 places and, so far, have had 2 declines. Of course,
that will change. We will not be extending additional offers after our December
17 meeting until after the Texas Match on February 1, 2010. I expect we will
offer more than 100 additional places before the class is seated."

So there you go. Those are the official numbers to date. Best of luck to everyone.

Me too. Oddly enough, the email was addressed to the person who apparently recommended me. I think it was probably a mistake on their part.

I think it was bcc'ed over to us just to show that they are trying to communicate the student of interest to the professor of interest. was your Doctor's name Holper?
 
It was definitely an accident--before I saw all you guys posted that you received this email, I emailed Anne McLane back telling her I think she got the wrong recipient. She just emailed me basically saying "oops!"

Thanks for letting us know! But knowing this, I would assume that the match itself is not really going to open up more seats since most students would not likely choose another TMDSAS school over UTSW. So pretty much, they're not allowed to make any offers until Feb 1, so we're just waiting for people to get into other great schools (Baylor and OOS) and then withdraw their spot at UTSW?

Hrm.. i wouldnt count out UThouston or UTMB as a reason why people would not choose UTSW. Yah, maybe it's got a good name but man houston's got the food. I can see it being more appealing than inner-city dallas.

mclane said she expected 100 more seats to be filled.

What do you think she means by "no additional offers after our 12/17 meeting"? Does that mean there will be some more pre-match offers before the meeting or that there won't be any more at all?

I think they mean that they will meet on 12/17 to give out the final 60 or so pre-match offers for the year. After which you will have to wait until Match Day or after.
 
So I'm guessing maybe that Friday, 12/18, will be some people's lucky day.
 
I think they mean that they will meet on 12/17 for their regularly scheduled committee meeting, but they will not be offering any additional spots because they have already handed out enough offers to fill the class. Therefore, unless a significant number of people email them and withdraw, they cannot make any more offers until after 2/1, because 2/1 is when rolling admissions continues. (prematch ends 12/31)

I thought I remembered hearing at my interview that they usually offered about 300 spots during prematch. Seeing as they have only offered 237 thus far, they will more than likely offer about 60 more spots after 12/17. This makes sense b/c somebody posted earlier that the admissions committee told them that there would be about 60 more spots offered during prematch.

FYI to the earlier question re: why I dropped out of school-- I am a little older than the typical student, and I decided that I the longterm sacrifices medicine requires just aren't right for my life. It had nothing to do with UTSW-- It's a fantastic school in all ways!! Best of luck to all of you waiting. I was in your shoes last year, and I know that you are repeatedly checking your email. Keep checking! Especially around 5pm 🙂

I'm coming back for the official second look in the spring -- over xmas break I was planning on doing rounds for a day like wes norred offered! Maybe I'll see some of you then.
 
If I remember correctly, the reason that so few people "matched to UTSW" was because they over accepted and were overfilled until Mayish... but people still got in afterwards, so all hope is not lost.

There are still two interview groups left, this weekend, and the weekend of January 9th. Good luck and if anyone has any questions about UTSW feel free to ask, although I think they innundate y'all with information during the interview date:laugh:.

They have one on January 9th for sure. I have no idea whether they have invited everyone already or not but I received my invite early November.

One thing you learn as a Southwestern student is to never, ever try to find anything on the Southwestern website. You're better off Googling "dr. click utsw." Voilà.
