I got mine last week. It was in my online student account at https://aisweb1.uvm.edu/pls/owa_prod/twbkwbis.P_WWWLogin and snail mail arrived Thursday or Friday. I'm on the east coast.

I'm not sure if your student account is activated (mine is because I did my undergrad there), but you can try to access your award that way.

ah cool - nah I don't have an account yet, so I'll just wait for the snail mail. I'm in CA so it should get here sometime soon.

Got my aid package on Tuesday.. man its going to be expensive OOS but im still excited

For all you WLers (OOS) I was waitlisted and accepted within 1 week so dont lose hope... when I called they said they dont accept anyone OOS directly... good luck!

thats weird, I'm OOS and they definitely accepted me directly.

Any acceptances for those who got oos waitlisted on 4/2?

Does anybody know if/when the committee is meeting again after their last meeting on 4/1?

Thanks!

I called a couple days ago and they told me that there really hasn't been much movement at all regarding the waitlist and that most of the movement will be around May 15th. I also asked about the general number of applicants accepted off the waitlist in the past and she said though it differs from year to year, it's generally about 50, fwiw.

What is the breakdown of PBL v Lecture in the current UVM curriculum? If any current students or applicant in-the-know could answer it would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Conrad

From what I understand as a matriculant, its majority Lecture although there is a trace amount of PBL throughout

Congrats! Glad to see that they are accepting feb waitlisters now :luck:

Did you send LOIs and if so, how many?

i did send a few update emails and one strong LOI...I tried to strike a balance between my establishing interest and annoying the hell out of the admissions office...as for the date of my interview, I'm going to shy away from answering that for anonymity...

Congrats. Are you set on going here?

Does anybody know approximately how many seats have been filled so far? When I called in admissions office I was told to expect some w-l movement b/c of the May 15th date, so does that mean the class is pretty much full and they're only going to offer acceptances after more ppl withdraw?

That would be my guess.

This is only speculation, but UVM has a very low acceptance rate...3.9% according to USNWR....it makes me think think they send out very few straight acceptances (maybe only 112), and put everyone elsse on the waitlist. Then they only accept people from the waitlist that really make it clear that it is their top choice.

Just a possibility.

Consider also that the yield on OOS acceptances (that is, the percentage of acceptances that end up matriculating) is very high, almost 50%. I do think that UVM is very big on having people there for whom the school is their first choice. It explains the "why Vermont" question that nearly all interviewees get, and it explains the back-end-loaded admissions process. Whatever the current numbers are, we know two things, 1) at least 112-114 acceptances should have gone out by now because of the AAMC traffic rules, and 2) UVM has a reliable history of being very responsive to applicant interest when that interest is backed by solid reasons why UVM is a good fit for the applicant. Like any school, the adcom is looking for people who are a good fit with the mission and culture of the place.

I haven't got any inside information but I would think that the post May 15th WL season will be a busy one.

I won't be able to go to Closer Look, but I know that I already want to go to UVM 🙂.

I was put on the OOS waitlist ~4/2

Congrats! This is very exciting! Did you write to them at all after being waitlisted? How did they notify you of your acceptance?

I called and expressed my interest. I was notified by email, right as I was leaving a conference in Anaheim - made the 5hr flight back to DC a lot better 🙂

Congrats DaneNIH!!!🙂 Can you please tell whom you talked to when you called? Did you talk to the Admission's Director or just the staff at the office? Thanks

Well it was kind of accidental how it happened. When I called, I had other questions to ask - and at the same time expressed my interest. I think it is probably better to write a letter of intent though! (I did that as well).

Good luck everybody!

Congrats to the people who have recently been accepted!

I hope to join you!🙂

I just got accepted! I'm very excited to be accepted but will likely withdraw due to another acceptance today. Two acceptances in one day was crazy.

Wow... you should buy a lotto ticket today! Congrats!! What time did you get the acceptance email if you don't mind me asking? (I am just curious to see if it's possible that they send them out outside of their regular office hours)

Thanks! I received the email at 4:15. Good luck to you!

got accepted today as well! but i can't decide between vermont and other school. vermont's match list is impressive, but how many people get their top choice? for those who went to the second look, could you please share any interesting insights? you can pm me if you prefer. i am concerned about taking step 1 early. did the second year mention anything about if they felt prepared etc...? thanks in advance!

Hey congrats! I went to 2nd day and the main advantage with the VIC is that you finish your third year rotations in March compare to June/July in other traditional curriculum. This will give you 3 extra months to get more experience in the specialty you want to pursue. For example, if you want to do dermatology or other competitive electives at Duke (where there's only 2 positions available), then you have the field advantage because you can apply in March where there is little competition in getting that spot as opposed to June where thousands of med students want that position.

In terms of step 1, the students said they felt prepare to take it. Honestly, I think it's the student and not the school that determines how well they do on the test.

thanks for your response, legacy! i was wondering if you guys had a chance to go through a pbl session. did they give you more details about the curriculum? like the exact breakdown besides what they have on the website...or something along those lines....

I think the curriculum is more lecture oriented. Nevertheless, they said if lecture doesn't work for you, then there are other means to getting that material in your head, hence COMET, group sessions, and labs. So during 2nd day, they emphasize the heart. So we had a 40 min lecture on myocardial infarction (heart atk), then we form a group of 10 students and went to a discussion classroom to look at the virtual pathology slides of the heart (normal vs. abnormal), then went to see standardize patients to know how to look and treat heart problems. Lastly, if that's not enough, students can use simulation labs where there's robots and we can play around with all sorts of pharmacological drugs to see how it will affect the patient in a physiological context.

One thing that stood out was the faculty. The lecturer, who was also the course director, said that on the days he don't lecture, he still comes to class to see what things can still be improved on and that he will stay until all his students questions are answered.

Hey Squirrel! Can I borrow some of your luck/karma? I promise I'll give it back! 🙂🙂

Hi all, I just withdrew my acceptance. Have fun in Burlington, UVM is an awesome school!

ahh now that I know people are withdrawing I am REALLY getting anxious (aka going crazy) everytime I get an email...this wait is torture!!!

Just relax... The chips will fall where they may. One way or another. Good luck!

I'm keeping myself VERY busy... that's my coping mechanism 🙂

Hah..easier said than done, but I'm trying!! I know I will end up wherever I am meant to end up, and at least I know I am going somewhere. However, I just can't shake the fact that I love UVM and would kill to go there (hence the crazy/anxious alter ego thats trying to ruin my cool.) Anyways, thanks for the words of encouragement and GOOD LUCK to everyone waiting to hear 🙂

Hey DaneNIH, (or anyone else accepted off waitlist!)

Did you get an email telling you of your acceptance or did you just keep checking the Online applicant center? Thanks!

I just withdrew my acceptance, too expensive for me. Goodluck to all of those waiting, hopefully one of you gets my spot!

It was a difficult decision, but I also just withdrew my acceptance here. The cost is just too much.
