Because of SDN, my DD knew that her attendance at an OOS university would result in a need to verify residency. The forms were mailed and verified already. It took about 7-10 days in total, including mailing time.

If you need to verify residence, submit the forms ASAP, no need to wait to be asked.

verifying residency? what does that entail? i haven't heard of such a thing...

UWSOM highly favors students from the WWAMI region.

So I have been trying to call admissions all day to ask about numbers of applicants from AK and i can't get ahold of anyone! i call and this guy answers and i tell him i would like to talk to admissions and he transfers me and it rings then goes to voicemail. i can't leave a message because i am at work so they can't really call me back...lame

If you read last years thread you will see many people got bogged down proving residency. If you claim to be a WA resident and attend university in WA, they probably don't ask, but if you are a WA address with an OOS university, they will generally ask you to complete the form and send in verification- car reg, DL, health insurance, voter reg, etc.

This is only if you are claiming to be from the WWAMI region

thanks for the clarification

Nice!! did you write anything for the autobiography part? and for the second question its only if we have publications right? if not and also wish to use our PS for the first section we have to leave both parts blank?!

holy crap they require 6 quarters of humanity/social sciences 😱

i pasted my AMCAS PS in the box. i don't know if you were suppose to do that or not. i am a reapplicant, so i had more essays...

13,12,8 3.48 bcpm 3.55 over all- from illinois- just got rejected...

hey felipe, sorry this process is rough. just got rejected from wake forest, so i know how it feels. when it comes to med school apps, the bad news usually comes a lot faster than the good news--so stick with it! plenty of great schools in IL as well, and you have good stats...

le sigh. Rejected today - and I actually was really interested in this school. Oh well.

Background info:
- OOS (so no shocker I got rejected i guess)
- 3.6 from undergrad; 4.0 from post bacc
- 10V/14BS/14PS , S - writing. 38S total
- AMCAS verified on July 14th.
- Rejection letter received today (July 21st - 3:18 pm). Only communication from them - no verification they got my app or anything.

Good luck to those who haven't bit the dust yet

thanks wt, yeah hopefully illinois schools like what they see

You had great stats, so I wonder what their screen process involves? I was verified on July 10th with less impressive numbers, but haven't heard anything yet - although given their OOS standards I'm not holding out hope really. It's just intriguing to consider what rubric they (any school really) uses in screening applications. Carry on, I'm sure you'll do well with that resume.

i got this secondary!!!
this has re-encouraged me to start writing essays

mcat 14,11,12
gpa 3.56
good ecs(but mediocre research)
from ohio
initial letter july 13th
secondary july 21st

now hoping for the ucs...

Am i being dumb or do you guys see a character/word limit for the essays on this secondary?

Hi ya'll,

I was wondering if anyone else was waiting for UW to download their LORs from AMCAS? Several of my other schools already have them, but UW is still waiting. I submitted my secondary 07/07.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to say good luck and hang in there. UW was pretty slow this past cycle, but they have an incredibly helpful admissions office, that will answer most any questions you have. My advice is DON'T EMAIL!! CALL THEM!

Also, they don't seem to start interviewing until much later than some schools, so don't stress if you don't hear anything right away. I was submitted in Sept but wasn't complete till Oct because of residency verification, and didn't get an invite till January!!

Good Luck everyone!

I'm having the same thing happen with my LOR's... UW was one of the first secondaries I submitted (July 5), and my LOR status is still incomplete. I'll probably call them within the next few days.

Hey congrats on your acceptance! i am currently working on their secondary, would you recommend writing something on the autobiography section? i definitely have more to say but my personal statement was really strong and i dont want to risk writing anything less so im still debating whether to leave that section blank! thanks =)

I left it blank, but stressed about that decision until i got my interview invite...haha. But the reason i left it blank is because I didn't feel like I had anything DIFFERENT to say from my original PS.....i kept trying to write stuff and it sounded redundant. I think i just left it blank (that was an option). I worked really hard on the other essay though, about why UW

thanks!! we dont have a why UW question, just one that asks how our experiences prepare us to be a physician, and I really hope to do well on that one!

for the autobiography i can write something different than my PS but it probably wont be as good sine I spent a lot of time for my PS and it explains my reasons to want to be a doctor better, anything more would just add to my diversity 😉

For the autobiography question, I was wondering how long you guys are making it? I am using the vanderbilt requirement as a rubric (i.e., 1,200 word max) for my essay. However, I am beginning to realize this is ridculously long. I am at 3 pages now, and most of this is truly an autobiography. I just read that some of you guys are just copying and pasting from the AMCAS primary, is this legit? For some reason, I read this essay prompt as a way to provide a context for the applicant, that is, to provide a history. I go from preschool to college, is this now what they are asking about?

Has anyone been marked as 'complete' for UWSOM? Every time I look they are still lacking my LORs! 😕 I sent in my secondary almost two weeks ago!

this secondary is kinda weird, we submit each section separately! is there a final submit button at the end? i sent in my check last week and they still didnt receive it yet! how long did it take for you guys?

and if you are oos the verification is not-complete and we cant change it so does it just stay that way?!

My check took about 10 days before they recognized it! They seem to be taking forever in verifying the entire thing though.

this really sucks. my personal statement was a well-written autobiographical statement and my activities explained why i thought those experiences prepared me to be a good physician...

i'm going to write more stuff but do you think i should include phrases like, "as explained in my personal statement..." or "in addition to my description in the activities section for XYZ activity" ??? or does that not sound good?

thanks!!

Actually parhumn, I had a very similar question. I called the admissions office to ask specifically about this essay question. I was told that about a page is good for this and that many applicants leave it blank or simply say, "please refer to my personal statment in the primary application". She told me this section is to emphasize or add additional details that could not fit in your personal statement. She also told me some people leave it blank entirely. I would give them a call if you want some reassurance.

for OOS people who got a secondary, did you guys have your LOR's in before you got your secondary?

great to hear! thanks tjquinn. i feel too uncomfortable leaving anything blank. i'll just add a few lines and make a reference to my personal statement as well

no, i assigned my LORs after i submitted the secondary.

they don't give out interviews for a while tho, i think?

yea I think it will be a couple months or so.......unless...someone has already received an interview invite?

oh no. i still haven't gotten a secondary from them. no word from UW since 6/29. that was when they said they were reviewing my app. thats what i meant by torture.

Any UWashington MSTP applicants hear anything from them or is this just way too early?

Yay, got my secondary today! Kinda shocked because I'm a reapplicant and OOS, and last year I received a snail-mail rejection dated the same day they received my AMCAS...wonder what I did differently this year? Anyone know if this means I now have the same odds as an IS applicant for an interview? Or am I still up against that giant WWAMI wall?

Hi everyone!

I finally got an email from UW saying my application is complete!! I submitted 07/07, so it's felt like it took forever! It looks like interviews don't start until October (for Washington residents at least.) Hopefully they would take too long letting us know if we'll get an interview!

Hey all!

Im a OOS, 39S MCAT, 4.0 overall undergrad GPA, just got my rejection email.

No surprise, really, considering the whole OOS thing. It is definitely really competitive for us OOSers

oh boy. big night for UW. come on! some news!

i got an email telling me my application is incomplete!! basically i gotta hurry up here :scared:

Finally complete (status page says I'm complete). For anyone who is waiting on verification of legal residence, it took 6 business days for them to verify me (Washington State resident)

have they started rejecting anyone post secondary?

IF this is the screen status, and no letters are listed, does that mean all is well?

All sections of your online Supplemental Application were received.

If you are interested in applying to the TRUST program you must complete all application materials by December 1, 2009.

The following letters are currently not in your application. Please allow for processing time once the letters are downloaded from AMCAS.

do they send complete emails or just gotta keep checking the status page?

The status page changes first and you should get a complete email within a few days.
