O come on Elijah, a little positive thinking goes a long way!
lol yah i know. Just finding it hard to be positive lately 🙂. Looking at last years thread, it seems people got rejections and interviews at the same time. After looking at the people who got interviews so far, its not really surprising, like ksmi and others 😛. Im sure rejections are starting to roll in.

Skip Bayless, that "journalist" from ESPN, went to Vandy undergrad I think. He's a douchebag

Don't lost hope!

he did go there, and i think hes good on 1st take lol. Makes things interesting though his opinions are way out there sometimes. Him and the stews or skoop make a good show! 🙂

What do you mean, "you people"?!

The dingo take yo baby?
You know that's a true story, lady lost her kid.

My wife and I actually took a helicopter tour while in Hawaii and got to see the set for the movie from above.

Very cool. 👍

And another question- someone posted a while back saying that the prereqs were due in December, but I can't for the life in me find where Vanderbilt says this. Can someone help me out? Thanks!

Yes. This is true. I just talked with the head of admissions. Everybody - keep this in mind and don't list any future courses beyond the Fall of 2009.

I was also told this via email a few months ago, so I can confirm it as well. I was told January, though, but Fall quarter/semester nonetheless.

Vanderbilt is the red-headed stepchild of SEC athletics. They're the only team in it to never win a conference title and they have the only stadium in the SEC that holds less than 65,000 people. Vanderbilt is a FANTASTIC school academically (by far the best in the SEC), but you definitely won't get the SEC football experience there.

Information according to my girlfriend's dad, who graduated from Vandy way back when 😛

 This is why my father told me that Vandy was the only other SEC school I could consider for undergrad.

Don't people have to dress up to go to football games? or am I mixing that up with some other school

The Ole Miss students up for the games. They don't have to, but they do anyway.

You're correct...a pretty decent amount of undergrads dress up for the football games. And then show up late and leave at halftime...the game isn't that important to some people.

Interview Invite.

BAM.

the thin envelope really got me. good luck to everyone else.

Invite today.. very stoked!!!!!

Still waiting in CT. Vandy is tied for my first-choice, so I'm dying over here. Has anyone outside of a major city in the northeast gotten one?

Hey guys! I just got an interview request today. I'm very, very happy. Do you have any idea what percentage of interviewed students are accepted? I looked on the website but didn't really see any stats. Congrats to everyone else and good luck. 😀 :luck:

I'm just outside of Boston. Haven't heard a thing yet:xf:

I'm heading home right now from work (work in DC, live in VA), if I see something, I'll let you know.

I have a sneaking suspicion my alma mater isn't gonna show me love, though...

still no love in IL for me. The sheer number of invites on SDN is amazing. congrats everyone!

vanderbilt likes me!

though the way I went into opening the envelope was, "well, if you don't get an invite, you don't have to write that autobiography..." (but I'm happy to write it now, 😀😀😀)

nothing here in PA..... maybe they are sending out rejections after invites🙄

philadelphia, pa

got the mail today for invite postmarked july 31st so hopefully peeps in the northeast will get them soon

"we acknowledge you" email - 07/27

Rejection/Interview invite-????

Too bad my nails are all bit off, I'll move on to other things to take my anxiety out on

I have a US News book that says in 2007, 29% got in. Not sure how accurate this data is, but hope it gives you a ballpark for this year. Congrats and good luck to everyone else too! See you on the interview trail!

I'm in VA and got the letter this morning (Monday).
thank you trueBelief and HereGoesNothing, your comments are very kind, but we all know this process is really random...plus, Vandy has a HUGE preference for its alumnae

Anyway, I live in Northern VA and got the letter today, so its making its way around.

I live in Maryland and Vandy is one of my top choices. Not getting the letter now is making me feel a little pessimistic about an interview.

It may sound super pessimistic, but I'm not citing favorites this time around (I definitely had a couple when I applied in 2008, and I had a lot of really sad times with their rejections/waitlists).

Instead, I keep focusing on how awesome its gonna be to work with patients and to learn lots of bio and to do clinical research and to teach and just to be part of the medical community. We'll get to do that no matter where we go to school...

sorry for the typical "there are no bad schools" speech...it's just a coping method that I've been using and I think it works okay.

I agree! Just that given that I am an international student my choices are limited and of course Vandy is awesome.

However, good advice and I shall keep that in mind! 👍

anyone in CA get it? I have nothing 🙁
I hope rejections come out soon so I know whether to start adding more low-tier schools or not...

I'm in CA, but I haven't heard of anyone else on this thread who is and got it.

Please correct me if I wrong, but people hearing back right now were predominately verified pretty early correct?

I wasn't verified until about 2 weeks ago and I haven't even heard anything from vandy. I have a while left to wait I'd imagine?

just wondering, for the autobio prompt, are you guys hovering around the 1200 word limit? mine is at 800 and finished and i'm worried about the length

I am and so is my friend. Both of us got it. Berkeley, CA. Me saturday, him today.

ugh. I'm in socal, but I suppose it should've come this way if it went to berk. I guess we'll see tomorrow:xf:. damn these forums.

I haven't received it either, but I am not pessimistic - I won't allow this process to do that to me - but I am discounting my chances a bit now, so if I do get the good letter, I will be pleasantly surprised, but if I get the bad one, I will toss it and move on...frankly, I feel pretty much the same way about my chances before applying - this one was a 50/50 to get to the interview stage then, and it still is...

Again the reason why we are all told to apply broadly. Banking on one or two highly competitive schools is nuts. Let the bad news roll off your back, and get fired up about the good ones.

got mine yesterday!!! verified 6/14 and im from PA

i'm sure there is more than 1 wave of letters...

Does Vandy screen secondaries for MSTP the same way it screens for MD?

Yeah, I'd expect you'd have to wait a bit longer. You can't expect them to have gone through all the apps they have gotten now already.

lets hope its a wave of invites

yeah seriously... if schools have to send out waves of EMAILS, then I'd expect the same thing with snail mail (which is a lot tougher to send)

I suppose this may be relevant now that we are taking about waves. A few people said there letter was postmarked on July 31st. Mine was postmarked on the 30th. Looks like a wave-ish thing to me.
