were you under consideration? or did you just get accepted.

This is my biggest fear, that decisions have been made and I just haven't been notified...

Edit: Sorry for omitting "CONGRATS!!"

gosh this process is getting to me.

I actually interviewed the week before I got accepted. So no UC for me. Good luck man..

For those of you that have been accepted, do you know around how long it takes for them to offer scholarships (assuming they want to give you one)?

I talked to someone in their office about this topic. They told me that the beginning of February is when they really sit down and figure out their financials. I don't know if "financials" really translates to scholarships for us but I'm guessing we won't hear anything until after then (mid-late Feb???).

Someone might want to call to get more specific information because this is purely speculative.

I submitted by secondary on 9/8. I also emailed Maria Sgarlata in regards to whether not my application was complete on 10/20, and received confirmation that it was complete on 10/22.

Her email address is: [email protected]

Thanks PinkNoise. I submitted my secondary on October 5th and was marked complete online Nov 3rd. When did you receive interview offer and when were you accepted?

I officially withdrew today... good luck to everyone else!
:luck::luck::luck::luck:

Anyone who interviewed last week getting a bit nervous?

Anyone who interviewed last week getting a bit nervous?

Yeah, I'm nervous too. But with all the heavy winter conditions, perhaps it'll take them a little longer to get back to us.:xf:

Does anyone know the odds of getting accepted off the UC list?...has there been any movement on it yet?

Just to clarify, there is no reason to send any updates or letters of interest to Albany post-interview since they just use a score, right?

Has there been any movement on the post-interview UC list yet? Does anyone know when there will be movement? When I interviewed in October, they said mid-January...

Called Albany last week about this. The woman I spoke to said that there hasn't been any movement yet and she couldn't tell me when they may anticipate movement. She did say that it looks as if movement will be comparable to previous years. Not entirely sure what this means since I believe the number of candidates moved off this list has varied in the past.

Anyone know where one would find stats on the UC lists from previous years. I'm also going to skim through previous years' threads for Albany, but I doubt they will be accurate since not every applicant is on SDN.

For those who are still waiting has anyone noticed that the date on status page online is still January?

UC List... Bah!

Seriously let us know what you find out. It's gonna get so frustrating having no idea whether I'm at the top or the bottom of that list! :xf:

Yeah, once your score is decided post-interview, nothing you submit to them is going to change it unfortunately

I got an interview invite yesterday afternoon =) It's my first of the cycle. I'm really excited because I applied late and was starting to get worried. My stats are all up on mdapps if you're curious. Looks like I'll be there the second week of March=)

Congrats, Sparrow!! Read your MDApps, all of those rejections pre- and post-secondary must have put a dent in your hopes. GL with your Albany interview (rock their socks off!) 👍

Congrats indeed. Rock their socks and nail this one. Good luck:luck:

Thanks all=)
One of my better mentors kept emphasizing how (as I'm sure you all know) the admissions process is such a crapshoot - we don't have a lot of knowledge about what schools are looking for, and it may vary based on the background of the adcom member who reads your app to advocate for you. That human factor really makes the already cluttered equation much messier. So, it's definitely not over til it's over!

I was impressed with their application system - I called admissions to inquire about other available interview dates and watched everything update on the webpage from my home computer at the same time that I was on the phone with the admissions rep!

Has anyone called to find out when we can expect some/considerable UC movement? I interviewed early Sept, been UC since like Oct/Nov. Tired of waiting!! Input or support?

Thanks guys.

Interviewed 2/3, UC status this morning. Eeep.

It seems that among the last few groups of interviewers to hear back, there have only been additions to the UC list. Has anyone who's interviewed in the last month actually been accepted or rejected?

Just got an interview invite today. Scheduled for Thursday March, 10. Doesn't seem like we get any info about the interviews/interviewers beforehand. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me how many interviews there are and what they are like. Thanks in advance!

I had two interviews when I visited the campus in early December. One was a researcher (don't think he taught the med students) and the other was an M4. Albany used to or still does publish some sort of bioethical journal and they are very proud of their bioethics department. That being said my PhD interviewer rapid-fired me with at least 7 or 8 ethical questions. Apparently I held my own as I was accepted a week later. Anyways, to prepare for those questions I read all I could on SDN and the Huffington Post has a nice (picture-based haha) summary on healthcare reform.

All-in-all each interview lasted about 45 min for a total of about an hour and a half.

Good luck!

You will have one or two interviews, depending on interviewer availability. Whether it's one or two has ZERO impact on your admission chances. If it's one person, that person will be on the admissions committee. If two, then one of the two will be a committee member.

Ethics will be mentioned at some point during the interview. Just use common sense! SDN interview feedback is helpful.

I had one interview, about 45 mins long, and was accepted. Good luck!

Has anyone put on pre-interview hold gotten an invite yet? I've been placed in this categories for month and still no news...just trying to see what chances look like for this school...

I haven't heard much from them either. I didn't even get pre interview hold. Just outright haven't heard anything. I'm going to call them today I think and ask if my app has been reviewed because I was complete in mid October unfortunately because even though I turned things in by August they took a month to process my new MCAT scores that came in mid Sept.

Not sure if this helps, but I completed my secondary on 10/21, but didn't receive ready to review status until 12/28, I'm still waiting to hear the result of the review.

Thanks Guju. I've been complete since mid-September and have not heard a peep as well. I'll just assume that my application is in the same stack, since I have not been placed on a pre-interview hold. Hope we all receive late interview invites! :xf:

Received an interview invite here yesterday. Pretty shocked since I was sure I was rejected having been complete since october too.

pre-interview hold today, complete since the first week the secondary was out.

Are you planning on going??? I know we talked on other threads, but I just saw ur mdapps and with number of top tier ranked medical schools that have invited u for interview and top tier schools that accepted you, are you considering albany or are you planning on withdrawing???

I hope I didn't offend you but since you linked ur mdapps I suppose its a fair question. Good luck either way. You are one lucky duck. I'd give a lot to have as many interviews and acceptances as you've had. Congratulations.

Thanks a lot guju. In retrospect, I probably overapplied but better than to underapply and come out empty-handed. Theres nothing to be offended about since I put up an mdapps so that my app cycle would be visible to the world. At this point, I am pretty sure I will not be going for the interview. I will be withdrawing today or tomorrow. Good luck to you too and hopefully you hear back from here soon. For everyone else still waiting, there are 10 interview dates available ranging from March 9-March 31.

Really enjoyed interviewing here yesterday. Fingers crossed for good news soon! and Good Luck to everyone who's interviewed and not heard back yet!

how is this school graded? their website is confusing as hell..

It's a modified ABCDF system. The actual given grades are Excellent with Honors, Excellent, Good, Marginal, and Unsatisfactory. Your letter grade for a given unit is based on your z score (how many standard deviations you are from the mean). Where the z-score cutoff is for any given unit is decided by the director of that unit. Most units will have about 2-5% who get an EH, 10% who get an E, a huge majority who get a G, and there may or may not be Ms and Us (there's no requirement to fail a certain # of people). 3rd and 4th year grades are similar based on numerical evaluation forms filled out by preceptors and performance on shelf exams. While it's fairly obviously a graded system that creates a class rank, there's something about seeing "G" instead of "C" that sits a lot better in the mind.

Hey does anybody know when the adcom will start reviewing students placed on pre-interview hold?

Bump.

Also, is there anything we can do to increase our chances of getting off the pre-interview hold? In the hold email it said they don't accept pre-interview update/interest letters so I'm guessing the answer is no.

Just got an interview invite!!! Jumping for joy!!! 😀I finished some time in December after I got an invitation email to apply and I added them to my AMCAS like really late!!
The moral of the story is there is still hope my fellow pre-meds!!

@jagydoc, congrats on your interview invite!

I am hoping to be in the same boat; I was complete late December only after getting --what I believe is-- a really encouraging email from AMC: "As you evaluate your multiple options in pursuing your career as a physician, we would like you to consider Albany Medical College. Your background indicates that you possess the drive and passion to be successful and along with the proper necessary credentials could be a great fit for AMC." I really want the opportunity to interview / attend because AMC is one of my top choices. Hopefully I will get one of those spots in March, April. :xf:

....and ditto; good luck to all!

I don't see how many more interview offers will be sent out after february. I am losing hope....
