checked today, the iapply status check email came pretty late.

Accepted and invited to apply for merit scholarships 🙂

Really stoked, I interviewed a little over two weeks ago. Does anyone know when second look is and if Case flies us up there, or if we have to pay for our travel?

edit: DAMNIT

Stupid low interwebs...You are the foot-ball holding Lucy to my Charlie Brown...
Yes. Your internet is an hour slow. You should really see someone about fixing that.:meanie:

Congratulations! 😀 I don't think the date for second look has been fixed yet (there's a lot of interview season left to go and all), but we don't pay for flights. We do put you up in the Intercontinental Suites, though! 😀

REVISIT WEEKEND: "Second Look Weekend" for the University Program will take place April 8 & 9, 2011. Please save the date! Detailed information regarding reservations and weekend activities will be sent to you electronically in mid-February 2011.

MULTIPLE ACCEPTANCES: We are aware that many applicants will receive more than one acceptance, and understand that making a final decision regarding matriculation can be difficult, as many factors can impact the decision-making process. Our office is prepared to be as helpful to you as possible, and we ask that you not hesitate to contact us if we may be of assistance in this regard. Our deadline for accepted applicants to decline other acceptance offers is Monday, May 2, 2011. Please review the AAMC Recommendations for Applicants to understand your responsibilities in this portion of the matriculation process. For those few individuals who continue to hold more than one acceptance after this date we reserve the right to withdraw our offer of acceptance. Please notify us immediately if extenuating circumstances become present with regards to this deadline.

Congrats on the double dose of good news!

Just to second Myuu here :beat:, while Case doesn't pay for flights to Second Look Weekend, I can assure you that it is worth your travel if you are still considering the school in the Spring. Second Look Weekend really sealed the deal for me on coming to Case. For some historical context, last year I believe it was in early April? (someone can correct me), but more on that as it comes closer, I don't want to spoil the surprise for you kiddies 😀.

My bad, I should have clicked "refresh" before replying.

Anyways, thanks Flowrate for being more on top of the dates than myself. I'll make sure to note those dates for when the question comes up again.

awww, thanks for all the support guys. Glad to hear that "On Hold" is not the end of the world! 🙂

Whoa! Looks like you caught me behind the curve! Thanks!

I've been wanting to try it. I call for a post-second-year-block-5-exams voyage to Parma (only like 20-25 mins from campus) for whoever wants to go . Like the second weekend post-M2-exams. (Methinks some sM2s are going out of town that first weekend) 👍

How about a pre-Block 2 scouting trip where we stop eating crap for one night and actually get food?

Woo! Accepted 10/16, invited to apply for merit scholarships. Grats to the other acceptees.

Congratulations!

Congrats on the acceptances! I'm thinking though that some of the current students came by this Friday (10/15) and ninja'd some of our pastries/coffee around 830 or so. Shame...

You were here last Friday? Then we definitely met. Although I don't ninja the pastries since I usually have breakfast before then.

Congratulations!

These acceptances are making me nervous. I postponed my interviews at Case and CCLCM until December as I was going to be in Cleveland then anyways. I hope there are still slots available.

Hello everyone!
Thank you always for your sound advice and kick ass information!
I have bit of a dilemma today and wanted to ask about it...
I kind of feel a cold coming down (throat itchy) but my interview is coming up soon!
Do you think it's okay to have a drink during the interview?
Like warm tea? It helps my throat.
I am also concerned that I will make my interviewer sick!
But I really can't reschedule, since flying out to cleveland is pricey🙁

Any advice is much appreciated!

When I interviewed at Temple, my interviewer was sick and insisted that I not touch him or anything in his office! It was fine even though we had to pause for him to cough sometimes, and in the end I did not get sick. However, I suspect that it's slightly more okay for the person in a position of authority to do that. I know that some schools suggest cancelling outright if you are ill, and if they don't, there is probably a stigma anyway. I would focus on getting well asap, take time off and treat yourself well. If you are only a little bit sick, they won't care. That's just my perspective, I hope some of the students here at Case have some advice to offer you!

I was thinking about wearing something eggplant-themed, but my rake usually gives me away...
I'm sure they'd notice the hyphens first.:meanie:

Don't worry! We keep slots open so that everyone has a fair chance. I interviewed in December.:luck:

I'm sure it'll be fine, so long as you explain what's up and you're not hacking up a lung.👍:xf:

As was mentioned before, Case Admissions is very judicious about the number of acceptances given out in each "round" so that the greatest number of people have a chance to make it into the class, regardless of when they interview during the season. After interviewing at other schools, I know that this is not the case everywhere, so I can understand your concern (I'm not trying to bash other schools here). That being said, don't stress that you're interviewing in December. There will still be many more people interviewing for spots in the class after you, up through late March-ish. Just focus on being as prepared as possible when your interview rolls around in Dec. Regarding CCLCM, they give out their admissions in three "rounds" at certain time points throughout the interviewing season, but I'll let vc7777 follow up on that one 😉.

**ALERT: This is my complete personal opinion** -

This is a professional environment (and a health science one at that), so if you happen to catch a minor cold before your interview and would like something to drink during the interview I don't see it as a problem as long as you preface before the interview why you are bringing a coffee mug with you. Getting sick is a reality and nothing to be ashamed of. If you are very concerned that the degree of your illness will hamper your ability to think clearly and answer questions, then perhaps it may be a good idea to call Admissions (they're super nice, I promise) and inquire about rescheduling based on your illness. Again, this is all my opinion based upon my interviewing experiences, so don't take it as fact, but hopefully this will alleviate some of your worries. Best wishes on your interview!

Okay, everyone's comments made me feel a lot better!
Thank you  now going out to buy tea bags....

I wish the very best for everyone!

OK....serious note...sound off people interviewing next week at CCLCM? I may stop by and say "Hello!"

Next week as in this week? Or next-next week?
Anyway, I'll be there on the 25th 😀

Very cool! I'm most into ballet, but I also really like all things ballroom/latin/swing as well! I guess if their modern program crosses with modern ballet that would be awesome 😀 Thanks for the info!
How did I not know this about you? That's pretty cool.

awww, thanks for all the support guys. Glad to hear that "On Hold" is not the end of the world! 🙂
Definitely not the end of the world. Or even the beginning of the end of the world.

I was thinking about wearing something eggplant-themed, but my rake usually gives me away...
Did you doctor up all those photos? Those were awesome. I love the penguin and the kiwis.

CCLCM's first acceptance date isn't even until mid-December, with the other two acceptance dates being in January and February. Approximately 1/3 of the class is accepted on each of these three dates. So there WILL still be spots available, even for people who interview in February. Now, go back and read my previous post about taking a step back!

I had this problem at one of my interviews, and like the others have said, I just let the interviewer know up front. It was pretty funny, actually, because I was losing my voice, and I had to whisper. So here we were sitting at this table, and he was leaning forward to hear what I was saying as if I were telling him some kind of big secret.

Hey, what am I, chopped eggplant? 😡 😛

I'll be back in town, so I'll try to stop by. It will be easy to pick me out--I'm usually the only fifth year. 😉

CCLCMer, I may not be in medical school yet, but I was taught how to be a gunner by none other than Chuck Norris himself. You best check yo'self befo' you wreck yo'self.

Sorry, I guess I kind forgot about you there CCLCMer, vc7777 keeps stealing all the posting headlines for you Clinic students. And while I wouldn't consider you chopped eggplant, you might want to watch out for Myuu,

or even your own Clinic brethren.

There's no telling what they might do...

lol! how did you even come up with this? please tell me you've been keeping a running tally haha

okay. question. (or several)

in the spirit of a current thread on the main pre-allo board, what are interviews at Case/CCLCM like? a while back FlowRate mentioned that they are uber relaxed here. so is it hard to have a bad interview? or, if they're relaxed and you walk out with a good feeling, how do you know if you've done well? can that still set you apart from other applicants? makes me wonder how it's weighted (less?) relative to the rest of your app... ahh so curious haha.

here's to hoping for some good news... :xf:

IMO nothing they do is geared toward stressing you out or trying to test you. You're given plenty of underhand pitches to talk about yourself. I don't know about the rest of your question, but I feel like they're trying to make sure you're interesting, intelligent, and social.

thanks for your insight. sounds like they give you a solid chance to sell yourself.

also, to answer a previous question of yours.... i'm peripherally familiar with the dance scene in Cleveland and looked into it back in the day when i was thinking about Case for undergrad. the Cleveland Ballet left a longggg time ago, but there still is an interest in dance in the area... so there has to be studios around (where, i'm not sure). PlayHouse Square attracts a handful of ballets every year, and once in a blue moon, they offer master classes (I've heard of this with ABT). otherwise Case does have a dance program. i remember i saw a department performance on a visit. i got the impression they are oriented both towards classical and modern ballet. i liked that because the school i currently attend has a dance department that emphasizes modern ballet to complement their mainly modern curriculum/faculty (not my preference). however, a significant amount of time has passed since that visit of mine to Case, so it is entirely possible their program has changed since then. Cleveland is also home to Oberlin and Tri-C that both have dance programs.
- tl;dr there's opportunity to take classes in the Cleveland area.

does anyone know if you're allowed to take classes outside of the medical school?

FlowRate- i, too, 😍 pas de deux.

Yeah, definitely a fit/sell interview school. I've actually only had one.. and a half... interviews that seemed interested in making you "think on the spot" or whatever bs they're testing with "tell me about a time when *obscure abstract concept*ed you."

Good to hear Cleveland still has some good dance stuff going on! I noticed they had some dance-medicine/therapy stuff going on which I thought was really cool.

As the department forklift, pas de deux is my job. Haha.

In general the interviewers just want to get to know you more as a person and maybe ask you some questions about your background, not grill you on intricate minutia of your scientific knowledge. Don't stress out about being asked basic science questions, but remember that this is still a professional interview for medical school. Prepare yourself accordingly, since what one person interprets as a "hard question" may be a simple straightforward question to another person. Maybe practice by having a friend ask you questions to get a feel for handling yourself in the "interview setting."

Regarding other taking other classes; I know that a lot of other med students do take outside classes in things that interest them outside of medicine, and the nice thing about our curriculum is that it affords you time to do such things. I'm currently taking a World Health class and Medical Spanish.

haha, yeah being obscure-abstract-concept'ed definitely sounds stressful.

seriously. talk about CCF's Arts & Medicine Institute.

this made my day and me LOL. sounds about right. experience like that will give you the ability to make anyone look good and salvage just about any lift. lucky you.

You can take whatever you want for free so long as it's not at the Law School (or probably other professional schools).

Lol it was a little stressful. I'm not good at thinking up stories of abstract prompts.

I definitely did! Such a cool concept, works perfectly with some of the stuff I'm interested in.

Haha yeah, so far I've found it helps when the girls don't expect you to do ALL the work. (sorry gal, can't lift your 200lb-ft of torque back up when I'm 3" from your hip pivot...)

haha yeah, but at the same time watch out for the girl that just goes for it. back in the day, my partner and i were trying a new lift and i did. i think he was either holding back or still unsure of how it was going to work and had to scramble not to let me hit the floor haha. i never understood why people think it's going to magically work if they're not going to actually try...

I feel like this topic is somehow relatable to politics, but this isn't the sort of thread for that kind of thing 😛. Gives me motivation to get stronger, though 🙂

These acceptances are making me nervous. I postponed my interviews at Case and CCLCM until December as I was going to be in Cleveland then anyways. I hope there are still slots available.

<--- Interviewed on the third to last interview day in February and got in without being put on hold. So yes, in my personal experience this is definitely possible. I also know one guy who interviewed the absolute last day and got in as well.

Do you think it's okay to have a drink during the interview?
I'm so out of touch from madly studying right now that the first thing that came to mind was a nice cold beer. 😱

Like warm tea? It helps my throat.
I am also concerned that I will make my interviewer sick!
But I really can't reschedule, since flying out to cleveland is pricey
Ohhhh... tea. 😀 Best idea is what someone else already said in this thread: just call the admissions office, let them know about your concern and ask. They're all really nice there.

IMO nothing they do is geared toward stressing you out or trying to test you. You're given plenty of underhand pitches to talk about yourself. I don't know about the rest of your question, but I feel like they're trying to make sure you're interesting, intelligent, and social.

I couldn't agree more. Just relax. My favorite thing to do is to visit the admissions office during breaks and calm applicants down (and snag some hot water for my tea). The interview is not a really structured event at Case. It's really a chance for you to pitch yourself in person and give the interviewer a chance to attach a personality to the name. Show that you've given the decision to go to med school and come to Case some thought. Be reflective. 😉 We like reflective at Case.

does anyone know if you're allowed to take classes outside of the medical school?

Big yes on this one. I would say a good half of the class either takes formal classes on top of their med school curriculum (myself included) or sponsored elective courses. I'm currently taking histology and a five-week integrative cancer therapy elective. One of the members of my IQ team took swimming to train for a triathlon. There is no extra charge associated with taking either class.

I'm sure you'll see a lot more first years filter through here as our exam approaches.

so they told us at my interview last monday that they'd be meeting today to determine our fates....:scared: that means they could be looking at my application RIGHT THIS SECOND!

patience, deep breathing, etc....
