Take that, vc7777 and Myuu!
You should be asking the medical device engineers here for their opinions...he should check out Case as a potential employer...Case is a top biomedical engineering program in fact.

Also, thanks for the input on Boyfriend's and my situation. If I end up at case I'll probably go without him for MS1 while he looks for jobs. Hopefully he'll find something by the time I'm MS2!
I am a second year medical student @ Case and an engineer. I live with a research engineer at CCF and know many engineers that work for GE in Cleveland. In fact, there are probably 3 or 4 engineers that lived and worked IN Cleveland before entering medical school at Case. There are plenty of engineering jobs in Cleveland and the city is super affordable (practicality).
Tell your BF to look into the jobs more seriously in Cleveland and he may be surprised at what he finds. I was a BME by training but primarily did musculoskeletal biomechanics - a job your boyfriend would be highly qualified for and an area of intense research at both Case and CCF.
I think my question got lost, I am on hold at Case. If I am really into this school (I am!), should I be sending off a letter to the committee that says so? I am not sure if I am technically on the wait-list or if they just have not decided on me yet, which is what the status says.
Thanks for any advice!
I posted this question couple days ago, but it sorta got lost in the "acceptance," which is completely founded. But i figure i should give it another shot:
I had asked my PI for a general letter of recommendation when I had submitted my AMCAS, however I just learned that he had medical training @ Case. Do you think it would be beneficial for me to ask him to write another, more direct/pointed letter as an alumni in support of my application? I'm hoping his affiliation would help move my application along..he is actually a pretty big name in my field of research. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!
No. He already wrote you a letter, so what purpose would a second letter from him serve? The letter is supposed to be about you, not about him, you know?
Happens all the time. In fact, several of my classmates were accepted to CCLCM and rejected by the UP, and some were were even rejected by the UP post-secondary. In terms of admissions, the two programs really are essentially independent. On a side note, how often is someone waitlisted at UP but accepted to CP? I feel like since UP didn't accept me my chances at CP are even lower but I know they look for different things.
No, it didn't. I just answered it last night (look at the bottom of the previous page). It's just that my answer got lost in the rest of the other questions I was answering, I guess. 😛I posted this question couple days ago, but it sorta got lost in the "acceptance," which is completely founded. Do you think it would be worth it to ask him to provide another, more "pointed" letter to CW in support of my application? I was hoping that his connection/affiliation with the school might hold more weight, and help move my app along. He is actually a very important/big name in my field of research.
Right now you are on hold, meaning no decision has been made on your app. The waitlist is not made until the spring, sometime in March. Letters of interest are not useful to the adcomm, so don't waste your time. What IS helpful is to send updates if you have them. Likewise, if you're on the waitlist in the spring, sending a letter of intent may be helpful. (A letter of intent means that you promise to attend the school if you are accepted off the waitlist.)I think my question got lost, I am on hold at Case. Checking in for the day.![]()
does anyone know what percentage of people interviewed (for case western only, not cleveland clinic) are accepted?
thanks
Well the MSAR states 1,296 interviews out of 5,556 applications for a class of 199. So, it seems that they interview a lot more people than most schools. This leads me to believe that the odds are low(er) and the waitlist probably has a lot of people on it.
Comparison, UIC interviews ~600 for a class of ~300.

Tons of people are just put onto the hold list each year. Both programs (UP and CCLCM) do that to give a fair shot to people who are interviewing later in the season.would you guys say that being put on hold this early in the cycle is more of a bad thing (since they still want to see other applicants) or are tons of people just put onto the hold list each year?
No, I don't think it's particularly large. Keep in mind that the 199 number includes all three Case programs (UP, CCLCM, and MSTP). CCLCM has 32 students of the 199, and our classes are completely separate from the other two programs during the first two years. Completely separate as in, not even on the same campus. (We take ours at CCF.) So now you're talking about 167 students who do their preclinical coursework at the Case campus. Of those, another 8-10 or so students per year are MSTP. So that leaves 150-something UP students per year, which is a pretty average class size for a medical school. Now that you brought up the numbers, what do the Case students think about the class size? It seems a little large doesn't it? How does that play into getting quality educational time and focus during classes?
Hey!
I just wanted to let you know that, even though you are disappointed with me for "wasting" my 1000th post, that THIS post makes me officially tied for 3rd place!

maaaaaaan and here I am struggling to break top ten. If I can't keep up with the Case Western pace of posting, how am I going to keep up with their med school curriculum?! 😱😛
Gosh, evergrey caught up real quick! I am so exhausted from my interview today that I feel rather silly having planned on exploring the city tonight. (interview not at case... <3 case/cclcm)
What city are you in? Yeah interview days can be really tiring!
I'm in philly. Just got up from like 2 hours of intermittent napping and kinda ready to explore, although I have to be up ungodly-early tomorrow to make sure I make it to the airport (on time and without almost missing my flight this time!) haha. What city are you in? Yeah interview days can be really tiring!
TBH I've pretty much fallen asleep at almost every interview day I've had so farYeah I always pass out right after my interviews.
Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it), I have 3 interviews back to back 3 days in a row, all in different cities coming up. Talk about tiring. I might fall asleep during the last one.
I got an email today "strongly encouraging" me to submit it. I'm guessing this is an automated message that everyone gets if you don't sumbit ...but just wanted to see if anyone else got this, and if it is worth my time to fill out the secondary. Thanks!
Look for a lithe ninja with a SDN mug, rising from the shadows, with or without kunai.Wow, Myuu, you are so freaking awesome. This thread is making me that much more excited about visiting Case! I cannot wait to possibly meet you, Myuu, if I know how to recognize you, lol.
Med students are a hungry and caffeine addicted breed of human. But we're well informed not to touch the goodies until 1030. Naughty! Were you interviewing, or are you one of us? 0_oCongrats on the acceptances! I'm thinking though that some of the current students came by this Friday (10/15) and ninja'd some of our pastries/coffee around 830 or so. Shame...
I've been designing mine...... kekeke
🤣AMG dude........wtf did you get these things?!
+1 for Chuck Norris reference.Haha, that's awesome. Top 5! 🙂
CCLCMer, I may not be in medical school yet, but I was taught how to be a gunner by none other than Chuck Norris himself. You best check yo'self befo' you wreck yo'self.

I am DOWN. Tho probably by now you've gone, come back, and posted all about it and I haven't scrolled down that far yet >< But srsly, let's do it!How about a pre-Block 2 scouting trip where we stop eating crap for one night and actually get food?
so they told us at my interview last monday that they'd be meeting today to determine our fates....that means they could be looking at my application RIGHT THIS SECOND!
patience, deep breathing, etc....
Okay, now I'm OFFICIALLY caught up through the first part of 10/18....but.....T_T....so....hard....to....Speaking of first years rotating through the forum instead of studying....![]()
OKAAYYY so, to break my promise I made 2.5 seconds ago, I have to post for this one. I thought that I "didn't have a chance" either when looking at that flat stats. You'll notice Case is focused on the whole person and what makes a good DOCTOR, not just numbers. For example, the interviews are more "relaxed" than many other schools because they really want to see who you ARE, not drill you. So read up on Case's learning style and decide if Case fits you and you fit Case. Then go for it! 👍Hello all! I applied to Case thru AMCAS back in June, and when my secondary arrived I decided not to submit it because I didn't think I had a realistic chance of getting in. I got an email today "strongly encouraging" me to submit it. I'm guessing this is an automated message that everyone gets if you don't sumbit ...but just wanted to see if anyone else got this, and if it is worth my time to fill out the secondary. Thanks!
Does anyone have any suggestions for delicious pizza or Chinese food (or whatever) that will deliver to the Guesthouse after 9pm on a Saturday? 😀
Yes. And vice versa. And people are often accepted to one but not the other. The adcoms for both are as virtually independent as if they were two separate programs. Really.Just got rejected from the College Track, what are my chances at the University track? I have substantial research experience, so I was hoping to get an interview for the CP...but apparently it's not enough. Has anyone gotten rejected from CP, but got an interview for UP?
Any advice would be appreciated
Good morning my ninja overlord!
