Class friend got off waitlist and into CCLCM so he withdrew from UP. I want his UP spot. Please, please, pretty please. Any time now. Shall I ask for it? No, I will wait patiently, and HOPE. My time will come. 😍👍

:poke:

Get back!

My spot!

😀

Just playing. Thanks for letting us know. It's exciting to know that the wait list is moving at least one more spot!

I hope we both get in! :xf::xf::xf:

I don't know if you've tried this already or not, but have you considered writing a letter of interest?

Ok, I'm done, it's off to the Big Ten for me!! You guys are awesome! Thanks for all the fun and encouragment! Maybe next time I'm in Cleve-land we can meet for some falafel. Best of luck to you all!!🙂

Aw, we will miss you! :luck:

Got my fin aid letter today...I'm kind of bummed that I'm now seriously considering other options

Financial aid (well, the lack thereof) makes me sad! Basically, going to medical school is like buying a very nice house...just without the house. But I guess it's worth fulfilling my dream....

Hey guys! I'm trying to decide between the Triangle and the overlook street areas. The most important criteria between these two is the walking distance. I'm fearful of the 15-20" walks during the Cleveland winter. I'm not sure if I know what exactly to expect (I'm from San Diego.) Also, if I do decide to drive to school, how available are the street parking near school? How much do the school parkings go for? Thanks!

I've been at Case for 5 years. The Triangle is substantially more expensive than a similarly sized apartment not much further from campus. If you have the money, it's great, but I don't. Neither the Triangle nor the Overlook area are far from school at all. I lived on Overlook last year and made the trip in less than 15 minutes in any kind of weather. There is no substantial street parking near the school. Parking passes are roughly 700 a year, as far as I know.

I still didn't receive finicial package yet? Just wondering how about anybody else? Should I make a call?

I haven't gotten mine yet either. You're not alone.

Haven't gotten my fin aid package yet either. I didn't apply for Case aid though, but I would like to get the ball rolling on my Stafford loans.

Wah...I'm sorry you guys haven't received your finaid stuff yet...I don't even know how I'm going to decide by Monday 🙁

Hi guys! If you don't know what's going on with your financial aid packages, but would like to, feel free to call them!

Btw, thanks for the color-reassignment of my ninja turtle!

Is the Case Loan better than Grad PLUS? I can't seem to find the Case Loan interest rate..

Here's what I found in Case's 2009-2010 Financial Aid Handbook:

"All University Loans are part of the Medical School Financial Aid package and are guided by the policies and procedures of the University Student Loan Office. The Financial Aid Director of the School of Medicine determines the amount of loan awarded, based on the financial need of the student and the availability of funds. Loans are repayable over a ten-year period in equal installments. Interest is calculated at an annual percentage rate of 8%. Repayment begins six months after medical students are finished with their residency with the minimum monthly payment being $25. In the event of the borrower's death, any unpaid portion of the CWRU loans will be canceled. "

This may be too personal a question for here, but is anyone else choosing Case despite being super bummed about their fin aid package? I'm trying to decide if I'm being an idiot for choosing more debt just because I 😍 this school.

Triangle is small and costly, but close and probably the least time that you'd have to spend outside (if you walk thru the hospital) unless you drive. (There's still a 3 min walk from the garage, but it's minor.)

Little Italy right around Cornell or Murry Hill further south is super close, but the apartments are oldish. Dntpanic's apt currently is as close as the parking garage, almost...but she's moving to somewhere larger/nicer. Some ppl love it there, tho.

The Waldorf has a hill that you have to walk around to get down to Edgehill, (which becomes Cornell), unless you really enjoy scaling through trees on a steep but somewhat small incline. Ppl walk from there in 15 mins or so.

Living further NE on Edgehill is the same. If I were to want to live next to campus, I'd try to rent one of the houses or duplexes that's as far SW down Edgehill towards campus as you can get. There seem to be nice ones along there. At least the ones I've been in. But I have no idea if they rent or if they're condos or what.

But I like living off campus - I drive as long as a lot of people walk, and I get a much bigger and somewhat nicer place for the same $ as the Triangle or Waldorf. It's up to your preferences.

I did ($25k/year difference btw this and the other school), and many of my classmates did too. I am so glad I did.
I'm doing a healthcare shortage area repayment program after my residency, which will basically erase my debt....but even if I weren't going to do that, I'd not hesitate for a minute.

You'll be able to pay it off either way, but you won't get 4 yrs of your life back.

If you really loved the other school seriously almost as much, that might certainly make it a harder decision. If that's the case, make a list to compare the good and bad things about either choice.

But when you go to make your decision, consider where you want to spend your time more than where you want to spend your money.

This sounds like great advice, thanks 🙂

I didn't love the other school seriously as much, but I did like it. The dilemma is that it's my undergrad institution, and I'd rather go somewhere new...but I'm unexpectedly eligible for in-state tuition and a pretty good need-based scholarship, which makes it quite a bit cheaper. There are some other downsides, including the fact that my SO would probably not be able to live there with me. Sigh. I'm seriously leaning towards Case right now, but every 30 minutes or so I have a few minutes of panic about the money.

I declined my spot a couple days ago, just to let those on the waitlist know. Good luck!

I'm from San Diego as well, finishing up here at Case. Winter walks from the Overlook area aren't bad. Sidewalks can be a little icy, but just get a good pair of boots. I wouldn't drive to school, parking's expensive, and it's tough if there's a blizzard.

The Case loan is very similar to a subsidized Stafford loan, same interest rate, no interest accumulation during school, AND you can defer through residency (at least if nothing has changed).

I'm looking at a few places around Coventry...how is it to take the bus from there to school? I'd like to avoid a daily drive if possible.

If I do end up driving to class, what are the options as far as parking permits go? How do I get one?

So looking at old threads, it looks like the bulk of the first acceptances from the wait list come about a week after the early May decision deadline. So would it be fair to assume that we'd have to wait until at least May 9th to hear something?

That is a realistic expectation, as the bulk of the movement starts happening then.👍

Good luck everyone!:luck:

Re: The Triangle

Our parking fee is getting upped to $250 (that's a 250-500% increase--I can't remember) to accommodate for the fact that all the new structures they're building on this corner won't come with their own parking. Just something to consider. They're also looking at upping rent universally by $10 to give everyone unlimited laundry (which would be awesome).

That said, I'm still going to live here... for now.

Just withdrew 🙁 There's nothing I could fault Case for, save the weather which they can't do anything about. Truly amazing school and people, I wish I could have attended! I like the other school almost as much though and my fiancee got accepted there but not at Case, so it kind of makes sense to go there 🙂

I see a lot of people on waitlists in this thread that seem really deserving, and I sincerely hope that you get accepted here! But if not, don't fret, there are other great medical schools to get your education at. And I've always sort of believed that these types of things have a way of working out for the best. I ended up going to one of my last-choice schools for college and it ended up being one of the best decisions of my life!

I also just declined my acceptance offer. It came down to a few things, getting accepted to my state school where I'd save 80k+ over 4 years, and a time conflict with the early July 7th start.

I really liked case, but I had to sadly let it go.

Good luck to those on the waitlist.

Whoa, are you me? Same situation.

At least four people have withdrawn on this site. Think of those who have withdrawn who are not registered on this site. Ummm, already secured financing here so that's not an issue for me. ANYTIME NOW, Ready, set, CALL. haha😎

Knock three times on the ceiling if you want me...doot, doot, doot, DOOT.

Does this mean you declined ? 🙁

I actually got an extension until Friday...I've been leaning towards another school for the past couple days, but wasn't totally sure. It makes more sense for me to attend the other school, though, so I think I'll be giving up my spot at Case in the next day or two

Case Western is my number one choice at the moment - and as are most of things in life, I have been placed on Alt list.
It's good to see that the list is finally on the move!

but does anyone know when it starts REALLY moving?

Is this Friday the final day for people to make their decisions?

This is so nerve wrecking because so much is at stake!

Good luck everyone!

Final decision day was May 2nd, though I'm sure others asked for extensions.

I just turned down my spot. Sad, but I think the smartest decision for me. Good luck waitlisters :luck:

I'm inexplicably still on hold at CCLCM...not even on the alternate list. The woman in the office told me that it's not a terrible sign that I haven't heard anything, but I don't know if I believe her. If people have already been accepted from the waitlist, what does it mean if I'm not even on it? Shrug.

I'm on the waiting list for UP and I'm going to China for a one month vacation next week, coming back in early June. If Case makes a decision on my application and decides to call me for yay or nay and I'm in China, I want to stay in touch somehow. Please advise!

The school also emails people when we can't get in touch with them by phone, but if you're super nervous about it, you could always email admissions (or call) and ask.:luck:

Wait list should start moving in the next couple of weeks. This isn't a message from the admissions peeps, but it is an approximation based on last year.

I was accepted off the wait list on May 10. (Wow...a year! It's gone by so inescapably fast!)

I can't say it will be that early this year that spots start going out, but it is possible! Good luck on the waiting! Tough, but worth it. :luck:

Awwww, but your avatar is so fabulous. I'm thinking that it's from Hyperbole and a Half? ?
Good luck wherever you go!

I can't believe I have never visited this before! I just read the "The Party" and it was hilarious. I will be back.

Thanks for the laughs.

I may need them come next week...😳

:xf::xf::xf:

It's pretty much the greatest. I sometimes take a break to read it when I'm feeling frustrated at work...but I usually have to stop because people will wonder why I can't stop lauging.

So I'm driving out to Cleveland to find an apartment this weekend! I have a few tours booked...a place called Crestview on Overlook Rd owned by Montlack Management, a place owned by Integrity Realty, another place at Cedar-Fairmount called Castle, and a place out by Coventry owned by Zipkin.

If anyone knows anything about these apartments/management companies, or know anyone who lives there, or even has a strong opinion about living in one area over another, I'd love some input!

Officially withdrew today. The UP, in terms of content, was probably just about everything I would want in a school (CP even moreso, but that was my only P-I rejection). Anyway, other stuff didn't fit with my priorities. I hope someone awesome gets my spot 🙂

Hey Rhesus! I know nothing about those companies, and very little about Cedar/Fairmount since I rarely go that way. FYI actually being out on Coventry is not quite close enough to be regularly walkable. It's not horrid, maybe 25 mins (wild estimate, never walked it), but in the winter it'd be beastly.
Not sure I mentioned it, but I asked my landlord about places. Neither he nor his partners have anything open right now. Sorry if I forgot to tell you. My head is in a fog of exams looming.
