Hi Guys and Girls,

Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School 2011 intake has already opened. Here is the new thread for 2010-2011 Duke-NUS GMS application.

Feel free to post questions or share opinions about Duke-NUS here!😍

Good luck to everyone applying this year!

is this as competitive to get into as Duke? And what are the average stats? I think its a cool program but dont wanna spend the money if its as competitve as Duke

Hi hitsugaaya,

From my personal point of view, I think it is not easy to compare these two schools. One is in the US, while one is in Singapore. One has a long history of medical education, while one is relatively young.

Duke-NUS have not revealed the average MCAT scores of students accepted, however, I remember the admission officer of Duke-NUS said they can provide a competitive score range and that would be a score of 30 and above.

Accepted.com has a page documenting an Admissions Q&A of Duke-NUS. I found it quite informative. You may check it at http://www.accepted.com/chat/transcripts/2010/med04222010_duke.aspx

Good luck!

I have attended the Duke-NUS School Building Tour on 26 August 2010. The learning enviroment in Duke-NUS GMS is really great. Is there anyone who also attended the tour?🙂

did you guys apply for the early decision or going for the regular one 😀

I am applying for the regular one. Working on the essays now!

Do you apply for early or regular, Icelego?

hitsugaya taichou,

duke-nus is obviously less competitive than duke.

its focus is on research so if u have gd resaerch or some research i think its worth a shot. i dont know ur stats but hey, if ur willling to fill out a completely seperate app from the amcas. then u deserve a shot at the school!

Anyone received an invite to interviews yet?

i thought about going for early. but I don't think 30 on mcat is good enough for early 🙁

Hi, does anyone know if the financial aid package provided by Duke-NUS could cover all the costs including tuition and living expenses? By the way, students spend the first two years at NUS, right? But the professors are from Duke. It is just a little bit of confusing on the website...
Thank you!

Yup. I know my friend got in. Where do they usually have the interviews? I read from the website each applicant will be interviewed by two people, lead a discussion and write an essay. What questions do they usually ask? For the discussion session, how is it like? Thanks!

I think there are several forms of finanical aid, including scholarship(merit based), research awards, bursaries(need based), loan, etc. It really depends on which financial aid the student has and which life style the student live to say whether the financial aid could cover all the costs, right?

Speaking of the curriculum, I think for the MD program the first year is basic sciences and at Duke-NUS, the second year is clinical rotations and in hospitals such as SGH, the third year is research and at Duke-NUS or other institutes(there are also opportunities to do reseach in this year in oversea institutes such as Duke), and the fourth year is also clinical rotations and in hospitals.

great learning experience but they don't say when the decisions will be released...

Seems like most people that post on these forums get accepted to the program.

Here's to hoping it'll work for me too.

Interview on Nov. 3rd at Duke in Durham.

Good luck to everyone as well 😉

those who were interviewed already will likely hear back in 6-8 weeks, according to the webinar

For interview day, are those going for interview in the morning preferred over those going for interview in the later half, i.e. afternoon?
Any idea/guesses?

I prefer morning. I usually feel very fresh in the morning. However, afternoon is not bad for me.😀

Hi guys! From the Sept interview batch too.

Mousepaddy, glad to hear you're waiting patiently. I'm getting so anxious! Waiting indeed burns more energy than working. Don't worry about it, I'm very sure that you will receive your acceptance soon, maybe even later today.

Best wishes to everyone in your application!

🙂 Interview on Nov.25th in Singapore too! Hope to see you on that day! Good luck!

So I guess people who do this program want to practice medicine and live in Singapore? If you don't, why would you become a FMG willingly?
