Any news?
Hi friends, I am applying to Duke-NUS for 2011 intake too. Where did you guys send the university results/transcripts to? Is it the same address to Dr. Craig R Stenberg as the reccomendation letters? Or do we not have to send our transcript? 😕
Do we need A levels results too?
Any news?
Did you guys have trouble uploading the pdf files for the essays?

Hey! How was interview yesterday?
It was definitely very exciting. Impressed by many talented applicants.
The faculty are very friendly and the teamLEAD session is engaging.
A staff told me that the results may be released in February.
Let's keep our fingers crossed and wait for the letters!![]()
What sort of trouble? Maybe you can try switching your browser. I can't remember as I submitted my application quite some time back, but I might have met some trouble with firefox and when I switched to IE it's fine.
Thank you. Sorry for the late reply. It totally worked! Good luck to all of us![]()
Hey guys,
My first post on SDN! I too have been invited for an interview on January 5th in San Fran. I applied on Dec. 1st (last minute possible, i know 😳), and got invited for an interview the following week, which was pretty fast!
From what I know, they also have an interview date on January 4th in San Fran as well as several dates in March. It would be nice to know just how many applicants they receive and how selective they are in offering interview invitations. If they're interviewing most applicants, it could mean applicant numbers are dwindling.
Look forward to seeing those who are coming out on the 5th! My first trip to San Fran 🙂!
I won't be surprised if the number is dwindling, especially the applicants in US since the economy isn't getting any better right now. Having said that, it seems like their past cohorts have been pretty stellar and I don't think NUS/Duke will run a diploma mill and blemish their reputation. It's not like they desperately need money like the Aussie schools - if they are, they would have asked for some insane tuition fees.
The question is whether it would be sustainable. It might not be apparent for Duke-NUS now, but all joint programmes have the inherent risk of de-merging don't they? Also, I am getting the impression that the quality of its subsequent cohorts seems to have reduced compared to its very first one, but that is just a personal observation.
I do not know whether the international number of applicants is dwindling, but from my obersvation, quite a number of international applicants were interviewed or are going to be interviewed.I wouldn't say quality of the cohorts would be reduced since none of us would know unless you got some inside news =) The international number of applicants might be dwindling, but the local number is probably increasing since it is the next best option for Singaporeans if they wish to practice in their country but couldn't get into NUS MBBS, which is ridiculously competitive. So, perhaps the future cohorts will be less diverse, but I'm not sure if they will be less qualified.

Since Duke and NUS has agreed to begin second phase of medical education and research collaboration (reference: http://newshub.nus.edu.sg/headlines/1210/duke_01Dec10.php), I believe their previous collaboration are quite successfully and pleasant.
As this second phase collaboration will definitely further strengthen duke-nus' capacity both in education and research, I am optimistic about the quality of the MD program offered by duke-nus.
I agree, duke-nus is not the ordinary medical school that only trains MDs, but with an emphasis on clinician scientists. Personally, I really like this approach and seeing how much money the Singapore government has invested in this new school/program. It will just get better and better. They didn't just build this brand new school several years ago for no reason. I am sure they have a big plan for this institution.
Just got back from the Jan. 5th applicant day in San Fran. Very nice overall experience and they made a good impression. Good candidates as well. One 1st year student from Duke-NUS even served as an interviewer. He was outstanding and of high caliber. I'm convinced the school has no problem attracting top students and top faculty! In fact, the Duke-NUS curriculum is supposedly much harder than top medschools in the US and this reflects the caliber of students they enrol. There was a grad from UCSF medschool who did a teaching stint at Duke-NUS last year and said their curriculum is second to none.
My question (I didn't get a chance to ask at applicant day), anyone know if they offer full scholarships for international students? Or at least one that covers 80+% of your tuition costs over the 4 years?
Acceptance decisions will be made towards the end of March/April apparently, for those who were wondering.
